If this is the first time you're seeing Jekyll & Hyde then it was an acceptable performance. If you saw the Broadway or touring production from the late 1990s, then this performance was not up the same standards as the last production and you'll probably be disappointed. The staging and the rewrite of some songs takes a lot of the feeling of the piece and of Victorian England out of the production. If you saw the 1990s production, the pre-recorded audio/video performance during this production's Confrontation number was hokey and a very poor substitute. Contantine Mouralis was very good, Deborah Cox is too old for the part, but the best performer was the actress who played Emma. This has a long way to go before it will be successful on Broadway in April.
So Goooooooooooooood! Great singing, just gotta love Constantine and Deborah!
Jekyll and Hyde was very well done. Although the songs themselves were not memorable or catchy, the singing and the sound was spectacular and the acting was riveting. The actor who played Jekyll was simple amazing.
music is great. Constantine Maroulis is only going to get better and better. He was excellent. The women were first rate. The only complaint would be to make the "Confrontation" simplier so the focus can be on Maroulis instead of the stage set. As he gets better they can do that. Would see this again and again
It's simply not possible except for those with a crush on the male lead, whose acting was surprisingly good. But the show is so incredibly bad that good acting means nothing and can do nothing for it. If you like hearing a large group of costumed people on a stage yelling full volume at you, albeit accompanied by music of a sort, then this is your show. Nothing I would call an actual song ever occurs, nor does even a remote hint at a plausible or interesting plot. In fairness to the actors and actresses, all of whom appeared to have considerable talent, it's not their fault in any way, shape or form. No actor or singer alive could make this mess of a musical worth sitting through.
It was fantastic from the start. Every character did a great job in captivating the audience. Overall the musical exceeded my expectations.
Henry, Emma and Lucy all very talented with strong voices. Individually magnificent, but as a cast the chemistry is not there. There were times when the cast connect with each other but the moments were few and far between,,,at least during my attendance.
Unfortunately, the harsh and dark musical score was nothing like the original Broadway production. The staging and effects were well done and we thoroughly enjoyed Teal Wicks as Emma. Overall, I doubt we will ever see this production again.
The show was captivating. All the performers were incredible and vocally beyond expectation. Constantine's performance was brilliant, impeccable, bravo and his voice matched his acting ability,,,incomparably one of the best in the business. There no doubt, I would like to see this show again. I hope people will going to see this magnificent show and experience the moment.
We absolutely loved Jekyll & Hyde at the Civic Center this week. Constantine Maroulis gave his all in acting and singing. I was exhausted for him! His voice is amazing and is acting wondeful. Deborah Cox was a singing sensation, too. The music was amazing with several beautiful pieces. All in all, the musical exceeded our expectations.
Amazing cast and incredible voices bring this story to life!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it :-)
Maybe I've been spoiled by some of the great productions I've seen lately, but Jekyll & Hyde just didn't hold up. Storytelling was campy, emotional pitch was out of whack and left me feeling like I had whiplash. Some of the songs were good, especially those that featured Deborah Cox who did an excellent job with the material. Teal Wicks also had some bright spots in her numbers. Constantine Maroulis' acting was way over the top for my taste, he didn't seem to connect with the audience, way too agressive I thought. Overall this production was not worth the ticket price IMO.
Incredible talent! The voices, acting, music, sets, etc. were superb! What a great night!
I saw J and H the drama at the Civic years ago and loved it so was wondering what the musical would be like. Very Entertaining! Was surprised by Constantine's range especially against the powerful women he was cast with.. Very Happy I went to see it!
The voices were incredible! Loved it! The sound could have been a little louder at some parts, but other than that the show was amazing. I would definitely go see it again.
Enjoyed the event, but found it often difficult to undertand lyrics and voice over during the journal.
Constantine Maroulis played the lead in this dark, powerful musical. The musical score accommodated several very capable voices within the cast, not the least of which was Constantine's. His performance was Tony material as he handled the switch between the Jeckyl and Hyde personalities and sang with power and passion.
I loved it and Deborah Cox was amazing! Yup, that's it.
It was fantastic! The leads were as good as any major actors I have seen in a long, long time.
