Writer/Director/Producer Je’Caryous Johnson who brought you the sold out hit play, “Married But Single” and the hilarious romantic comedy, “Two Can Play That Game” is back with another one – Je’Caryous Johnson presents SET IT OFF based on the hit iconic movie by the same name. Fans will get to relive the ride that made them love SET IT OFF the movie, but this time around they will experience it LIVE ON STAGE.
The hit heist, cult classic movie you love is now a stage play and coming to your city. The same iconic characters – Frankie, Tisean (T.T.), Stoney and Cleo are back bringing the same action packed, adrenaline filled robbery scenes and emotionally charged antics against an equally exciting music soundtrack that will have you on the edge of your seat. Multi–platinum selling rapper DA BRAT will be starring as Cleopatra “CLEO” Sims, the role originally played by Queen Latifah in the movie. Fans will recall SET IT OFF centers on four childhood friends who spent a lifetime struggling to move away from the mean streets of their neighborhood. The system stole their dreams and now the four are determined to steal them back. With their world in turmoil and their backs against the wall, they decide to seek their fortune - literally. Targeting the banks of Los Angeles, Cleo, Stony, Tisean (T.T.) and Frankie rob the city's most vulnerable financial institutions. Flush with cash, they discover that mo’ money equals mo’ problems.
We had a tremendous good time at the play. It was a very good production.
Great show and most memorable scene was the ending with the car and shooting of Cleo ….. epic
This was wonderfully done. Jecarious did a great job. I was expecting to see Keisha Knight but the cast choices were well chosen. The fact that the actors were also able to come off the cuff during help to bring the characters to life. Brats performance before the intermission was epic. The final scene with the car rolling onto the stage helped to bring that iconic scene to life. Even though o had someone trying to commentate the entire play I had a great time. Would definitely go to another production.
The play was awesome and hilarious at the same time! I even loved how they changed it up a little!
This stage play was everything. The entire cast did an awesome job! It was such a pleasure to see The Brat display her amazing talent, along with Vanessa Simmons. Latoya London from American idol, was also magnificent, And the young lady who played Tee Tee rocked the house as well. I was also glad to see the original Stevie added to the cast. And Luther was the icing on the cake. This stage play is a must see. I’ve always been a fan of Decaryous’s stage plays. He showed up and showed out on this one! Thumbs up👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved every minute of it, what a great show, looking forward to the next play.
Enjoyed the play itself! All of the actors & actress nailed their roles to the T. However, we couldn’t hear the first 25 mins of the play due to disturbance from the attendees trying to find there seats
The play was great. All the actresses/actors done a good job of displaying the characters they were chosen to play. The Brat was a perfect choice to play Cleo she performed well. Vanessa played Frankie part exactly like Vivica did. She's a good actress. LaToya London fit the part of Stoney with acting to size, she done well. I was very upset that Keisha was not in Detroit , so my apologies for not remembering the young lady name who was in her place as Titi. She done a great job with her part as well. Je'Caryous made great choices with these Ladies. Had a wonderful time with laughter and fun!
There was a speaker right in front of us the whole entire time we cannot even see the play we had to listen in and we spent $316 for floor seats
My 2 sisters (KK and Ri) and I loved the show. I have no idea Da Brat was so talented. She deserves an Oscar along w/ an Emmy. The alternate ending was a great idea because I’m sure most of us knew the whole movie. Great show overall would see again.
This play was great. Wasnt a lot of singing. Although the ending was a twist but it was great.
I really enjoyed attending and supporting the Set It Off Play. With the movie being one of my favorites, I could appreciate the scenes that were brought to life in the play and the twist ending. DaBrat was a the perfect asset to the play, as she did the role of Cleo, justice! Additionally, the supporting cast members were a nice compliment and I can appreciate the intentionality of finding actors who had obviously studied the movie characters. Great job Mr. Johnson!
There was no effort or funding put into this production. For the cost of the tickets more money could have been in the production. The acting was horrible outside of the few laughs provided from the Brat. Set It Off did not give any justice to this all time movie. So terrible !!! would have gave zero If I could
Started on time and the acting was on point. I cant wait to see his other plays coming soon.
The cast was outstanding! It was laugh out loud funny! Da brat did her thing & I couldn’t have loved it more! Can’t wait to get my family together to see his next play!
Great play seats were to close together not enough space
The play started 30-40 minutes late and I couldn’t even hear the play due to people constantly talking. Detroit music hall is ghetto but from what I did get to watch, they did a nice job
The stageplay itself was phenomenal… though Detroit came out in traditional Detroit fashion. I missed half the show because two or three groups decided to arrive late and argue about seats. I believe it would be best if arriving after a certain time, you shouldn’t be allowed to enter until intermission, it’s disruptive for everyone else who arrived on-time to enjoy the show.
Everyone did a great job, hard to believe these weren’t the original characters.
The play was so good. Very entertaining and well thought out. My wife absolutely loved it. I waited until the last minute to buy the tickets so we had nose bleed seats but it was still a great show.
