Great way to see the Shedd

    by Chicagogirl8 on 8/12/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

This was a great way to experience the Shedd at a discounted price. However, they needed more seating outside for the wonderful music. There was no place to sit with a drink and food as everyone was trying to snare a table. We could only stay inside and so we did not get much exposure to the music.

Jazzin at the Shedd mostly good

by Shaedizzle on 8/12/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

Really nice event, good music. Food did not look good. Long lines for drinks after 6:30 p.m. Great to see the exhibits and relax on the patio, especially early.

    Jellies

by Ebonydame on 8/7/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

First time at the Shedd, and I had a splendid time, what could be better than jazz, wine, and all the beautiful and magnificent sea creatures.

    Could have been better.

by LittleMsSika on 8/5/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

The jellies exhibit, music, food, and fireworks were great. I didn't feel like waiting in line for a drink, it was too long. I thought it was more for adults, but there were so many kids there. Maybe there should be a cut off age? It wasn't an "enjoy the aquarium with your honey while strolling and holding hands kinda night". It was over crowded and I felt claustrophobic. We had a hard time seeing the exhibits because of the masses of people. I tripped over a stroller even. Another downfall was that even though it goes until 10pm, they start shutting down the exhibits early, which it should state on their website. So we got there around 8:30pm and could really only see one exhibit. I think the exhibits should be opened until 10pm. We went outside to watch the fireworks in the grass because we just couldn't stand the crowds anymore.

I hada great time at the aquarium. It wasn't too crowded, it was nice to be able to buy drinks, and the evening hours made it a great date event. I would recommend this.

JAZZIN AT THE SHEDD IS ALWAYS A HIT!

    by mrspro4 on 7/15/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

As usual, DeTour did a great job in moving the crowd. The only downside was the weather, it was a little cold in Chicago but DeTour was hot! We had a great time with friends and family and all of them said they will be back again.

    Yes!

by MomOfun on 7/12/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

We went for the live music and drinks but found that we thoroughly enjoyed the aquarium itself as well. Smaller crowd, fewer kids, and to leisurely wander the displays with an adult beverage is the only way I want to visit the aquarium from now on. :) Great live music, beautiful setting overlooking Lake Michigan, with good food and beverage at an amazing place... Would I recommend to a friend? Have already told everyone I know!!

    The Jellies were AMAZING

by Anonymous on 7/12/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

We went to Jazzin at the Shedd on July 5th and the best part was the Jellies. They are truly amazing! Overall, we'd recommend the experience of the music, drinks, outdoor atmosphere, the fireworks, and the Jellies. The only con was the patio seating area filled up pretty quickly so we were unable to sit at a table outside. We sat inside until the fireworks, which was just fine, and then went to the lawn to enjoy the show.

    Shedd was Jazzy!

by RizzoBeans on 7/2/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

Jazzin at the Shedd is a nice weekday outing for the whole family. The admission was fairly priced. You can purchase tix in advance or at the door (short wait). Upon entry the music playing over the speakers lets you know that this isnt your average museum visit. The only exhibit not open was the dolphin show (you can still view them swimming). Nothing like watching the animals while listenng to good music. Some exhibits close before the 10:00 shutdown. There are plenty of beverage carts offering extremely overpriced libations ($6 domestic $7 imports, $3 soda and bottled water, assorted cocktails + TIP). Two food courts were open (dont know about mcdonalds) as well as catered food. The terrace is the place to be. The upper level is near the band with highboy and round table seating under the canopy. The lower level, exposed to the sun and stars, has lots of round tables. Arrive early if you wanna seat. Fireworks kick off at 9:30 sharp. You can view them from the bikepath or outside on the street. Great enviornment with a mixed group of people. If the drinks were a little more fairly priced, I wouldve enjoyed it more.

    Jazzy Jaz

by Timeka on 6/26/11Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

Overall the show was nice and cozy! However, the band took too many breaks and because of the weather there should have been more tables set up under the tent. There was no assign seats or anyone directing guests to seats even though we had tickets that suggested we had assigned seats.

It would have been great if there was at least one complimentary drink. You should also be able to use your credit card at the dining tables and bars. Overall it was very romantic over looking the lake and the jazz band played, while relaxing with my husband. We will go again!!

    Jazzin' at the Shedd

    by mrspro4 on 9/7/10Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

We had a great time, and the weather was just perfect along with the view of the city. As usual, the band put on a great show and Phil and Ben of the band did not disappoint! I am so glad we were able to go to the last show, but it won't be my last. I look forward to going next year.

Great to be on the outdoor terrace in the Shedd Aquarium. the music was fabulous, but all that drinking, and all the drunks were unseemly for me and all the children at this event. It really soured my good time and I was livid with all that booze flowing, we couldn't see the fireworks at Navy Pier either.

Shedd's Jazzin' with Detour was great!!

by MsDontDeny on 9/4/10Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

The agenda was great!!! We all had a fabulous time. It was a bit crowded and there should have been a cut off point. Besides that, the rest of the atmosphere was great. It's nice to socialize with adults!! Detour was the featured band and they were the 'bomb'. The venue could use more seating, but space is so limited. I think the Shedd did a fabulous job with what they had to work with. Everybody in my group simply loved the event. We will be back next year.

Jazzin' at the Shedd - all access

by NicoleSP on 9/3/10Shedd Aquarium - Chicago

My husband and I decided we'd drop the extra money for all access to Jazzin' at the Shed. It cost about $50 for two adult tickets off Ticketmaster. We arrived around 5:30pm and got some buffet food and drink (about $9 an entree and $7 a drink). The jazz music was some really quality stuff. There wasn't much room to sit on the terrace by 6pm so we stood by a pilaster and ate our food, listened to the music, and enjoyed the fantastic view of the city skyline in the evening light. One thing we didn't get access to is the Fantasea show which costs another $10-$15 a person. We really didn't care that we missed the show because there were so many other things to see. We loved witnessing the sea otters, dolphins, and beluga whales in the Oceanarium. Nunavik the 8 month old whale was the crowd favorite. It's unbelievable how close visitors can get to these incredible creatures! We wrapped up the night by taking the front elevators down to the Wild Reef, an exhibit I had never seen before. OH MY GOD, IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL! The way they've built the aquariums curving overhead and being surrounded by a muriad of colorful fish and coral is mind-blowing! It's funny how the mostly adult crowd turned into curious kids at the sight of this exhibit. People were laughing with glee and pushing their faces ever closer to the glass to get that extra close look. As we walked out of the Aquarium, the city was aglow. We stayed a few more minutes to take it all in while enjoying the jazz music that drifted from the terrace. We didn't stay long enough to see the fireworks show at Navy Pier (9:30pm) but we felt we had already gotten our money's worth. We went home very satisfied. I recommend this event highly!

The event was a lot of fun. Only complaint would be that the bar lines were a bit slow and it was a little difficult to see some of the attractions later in the evening.
