While Jazmin Sullivan and her opening acts did their best, this concert was without a doubt the worst event I have ever been to in my life. Firstly, the concert didn't start until 1 hour after the posted time (which is not unusual, however none of the THREE opening acts played during that time and we were forced to listen to a mediocre DJ who was haphazardly mashing together rap and r&b bangers without a shred of style or creativity). Once the first of three opening acts did finally show up on stage, she was not lit properly or announced in any dramatic way... In fact, EVERY artist, including Jazmin Sullivan was lit horribly and was not supported with a dramatic entrance or even a planned camera setup so that when they arrive onstage the camera people could actually be ready to stream them on the side screens. Every starring artist just wandered onstage in the dark and then the side screens were blurry and shaky with the camera people desperately trying to find the artists without any lighting to showcase them. The set design was non-existent--black instrument setups on a black stage with black curtains and only three screens above the set. These three screens displayed the most hideous logo I've ever seen for a concert (some sort of unexplained green and blue 'North to Shore' logo) for the entire first hour of waiting and every interval in-between acts. At least play some graphics or images during the lengthy waits! And speaking of those, despite there being NO set changes, each interval between the 4 acts lasted a minimum of 30 minutes. All that needed to be done was swap out some instruments. I work in show business and have seen entire shows with hundreds of props, fully automated stage lifts, lighting boards, projection mapping, costume changs, etc, ALL be reset in under 20 minutes. 30+ minutes is unacceptably long to take just to move a drum set onstage. This concert started at 8:00 pm and Jazmin Sullivan herself arrived onstage at 11:30 pm. Audience members around me were actually falling asleep because of the boring intervals and excruciating wait time. The middle of the display screens also crashed multiple times while trying to play some comically outdated graphics that looked like they were from the 2000's (water cascading, an glowing archway, some weird red suitcases circling around) and during Jazmin's concert displayed the source computer's (Razer) logo for one third of her performance. The concert finished up at 12:15 AM, wrapping up without an encore or any final dramatic ending. The nail in the coffin was the horrible SOUND QUALITY. The sound was echo-y, warped, and inexcusably blurry. Despite knowing many of the songs played, I honestly had a hard time even recognizing which song was being sung because the sound quality was so poor. And of course the volume was cranked ear-bleedingly high as well. In conclusion, this concert was a disappointing waste of over $300, and I am appalled that a company raking in THAT much money couldn't put the slightest bit of that income towards actually producing a great show, supporting the beautiful singers and dancers that were showcased, putting the audience at ease and keeping them entertained, and at least putting a thought towards the sound quality (it is a CONCERT after all--you are supposed to be able to appreciate the singers' singing!?)! I honestly feel that every person in that building deserved a refund for the elementary and disorganized spectacle they were subjected to, as well as the awful cacophony of noise that ensued. Lots of love and appreciation to the artists--Jazmin Sullivan, Ari Lennox, Queen Naija, Ebony Riley, and the beautiful dancers all did their best. But they all deserve a production team that puts in the work to uplift them and elevate their music and their audience's experience. In any case, I was devastated by the poor quality of this concert and so disappointed that I spent my hard-earned money on such a mediocre event where the production team has greedily raked in the cash and put none of it towards ensuring a great experience.
