It was an awesome show!!!! Its nice to have great music close to home! And I saw him the next night in Diamond,MO. So yea Im a fan! Go see Jason Boland!
Mr. Boland and The Stragglers put on a wonderful little evening. Some would say it was the Gem of Boone County this past Thursday. The John D. Hale Band was no slouch in the skid steer either. Quite a few lovely young ladies as well.
I enjoyed Jason Boland and the Stragglers. They played songs off several different albums and a few cover songs. The night was being recorded for a new live album which should be great. Sons of Bill were a nice surprise mix of country and rock.
With so much mainstream country music turning to absolute drivel, it's refreshing to hear a band that can play outstanding music and write outstanding song lyrics to match. These guys are better than anything on country radio today and can hold their own with most rock bands. The only reason they don't get five stars, unfortunately, is no fault of their own. Rather, it was the Bluebird Theater venue that limited the enjoyment. The place is pretty much a dump. I counted 12 chairs in the whole place, the bar sucks and the place is filthy. The only redeeming feature to the place is that its small size allows for an up close and personal experience with the music.
My husband "dragged" me to this show and I was glad he did. We both thought the Sons of Bill were awesome and I now also love Jason Boland.
This was our umpteenth time to see JB&S, probably our fifth time seeing them at Billy Bob's - they never disappoint. They always perform a great mix of 'old' and new tunes, along with some great covers. If you have never heard Jason Boland and the Stragglers, go see them and give them a shot - they are one of our absolute favorites.
Boland is better than ever. Billy Bob's is a great venue.
Go see Boland and the boys, even if you only know a few of his songs. The band plays really tight and have no shortage of songs. The concert was well over 2 hours long. Probably the best "bang for the buck" concert out there. We had a blast and it was a nice after-Christmas treat. Everyone in the band is very talented. After the show, Jason Boland stuck around a signed some autographs, took pictures, and answered a few questions from his fan. This is surely a memory that will stay with us!!!!!!!!!
Overall a good show, but they really start out slow. The bass player had difficulty from the start with amp problems, but once that was resolved we really didn't hear much from him anyway. The fiddle player is fast and talented, if a bit tone deaf. He plays wicked leads on the fiddle which are not in tune with the song. The slide, lead, dobro guy (Roger Ray I think) is the best multi lead guy I've seen in a while. He's extremely talented and should be featured more. Jason has a great baritone voice, but would sound better with some harmony vocals behind him.
Jason and his band played outstanding, authentic country music for nearly two hours, the sound was great and they are all very talented musicians! They came out after the show for pictures and autographs, they really treated their fans well and clearly appreciated them.
