by Melvrcklngtime on 11/8/114th and B - San DiegoThe DJ in charge between sets did his thing, playing some of the "obligatory" songs for the genre (maybe a little too much Maná, but could be due to some of the older folks in the crowd). Todo Mundo was actually fun, their music is reminiscent of Ozomatli and King Changó. I personally do not care in the least for La Vida Bohème and their hyper brand of incessant "post-punk?". Plus, they definitely overplayed past the usual 30-40 minutes meant for an opening band. Maybe they think that since they are nominated for a Latin Grammy (insert obvious joke here), they deserved to do so? Still, by overreaching they pushed back Jarabedepalo which led to a 1AM finale, relatively late for a Sunday-night affair. Overall, the Jarabedepalo set was as expected: a delightful mix of songs from their newest release ("¿Y ahora qué hacemos?") and time-tested classics, such as "Depende", "Bonito", "Agua", and of course, "La Flaca". Unfortunately Pau was a little under the weather due to the A/C on the flight from London (if I recall correctly), but he still exuded plenty of energy and charisma. The lead guitarist added a little bit of a hard rock flair, which gave the songs a different dimension. I would have loved to hear the original arrangements when performing their older songs, but just seeing/hearing them live made me a very happy camper. Will definitely see them again next time they come to town.

by Convencida on 7/12/114th and B - San Diego4th & B ... nice place, good atmosphere ...lousy sound system! Concert should have started 8 pm ... opening act Cantua came out @ 9:30 pm! .... Ok band, nice guitar playing .... Jarabe came out @ 10:20 pm and played about 2 hrs .... Jarabe de palo was great, voalista Pau dones is wonderful! great voice and charisma! Guitarrist is a wonderful sight and so much fun! too bad it was such a long wait .... and too bad the sound system stunk ..
