In a powerful homage to her partner and mentor Serge Gainsbourg, the chanteuse, star of film and stage, style icon and darling of the French avant-garde, Jane Birkin, will give one special concert 'Jane Birkin sings Serge Gainsbourg'.
For more than a decade she was muse to the legendary French singer, songwriter and enfant terrible Gainsbourg. He was a cult hero in France and his death of a heart attack on March 2, 1991, warranted something of a national day of mourning. Together they produced six albums and continued to collaborate professionally long after their relationship finished in 1980.
In her long career, Many of his songs were written specifically for her (with that voice in mind) and given that they are mostly about love - love of her and with her - Jane sings them with a very real, if understated, passion.

After a 40+ year career, she still carries this joie de vivre, kindnesses and beauty that inspired Serge Gainsbourg (her mentor, and late husband). The way she sings with so much simplicity gives you goose bumps. The way she interacts with the public and the musicians brings you on stage next to her. This concert makes you wish you will never go back to the Madison Square Garden. This was defenetly my best concert of the year and I fell the whole room (french and americans) had the same feeling. An experience I will never forget. If you didn't have the chance to be part of this, listen to her album "Arabesque" (start with "Elisa" and you will understand what I am talking about) where Jane (with a quintet of Arabic musicians this time) gave in 2002 another tribute to the music of Serge Gainsbourg.

by Sophielaurent on 12/13/11Town Hall - New YorkIt was one top 10 of my life time....we could hear a myth, see as nice and friendly she can be, she doesn't forget to thank anybody, and the songs, her voice, .....magical. I forgot all the rest of my life for 2h. Thank you Jane! And the first part, Joey Ree (?), was very good and funny...so fresh! I loved the way this artist was welcoming the public which was late.

Now, I understand why geniuses were and are intrigued by her. It was a magical evening seeing this amazing , beautiful woman. who has lived a life studded with fascinating relationships among the glitterati and genius of Europe.
