James Arthur on Tour

James Arthur has come a long way since proving himself a star on 2012's British X Factor. The competition helped prime him for the stage, but after touring with the show and performing in sold-out arenas, he wanted to make a name for himself outside of the X Factor brand. In 2014, he set out on his debut headlining tour, the James Arthur Tour, to support his self-titled debut album. Over the next five years, he toured extensively throughout the U.K., Europe and the U.S., and landed a supporting slot at the 16th Annual Honda Civic Tour alongside OneRepublic. In 2019, he performed a few intimate and acoustic shows to warm up for one of his biggest tours yet to support his third album, You.

James Arthur in Concert

James Arthur can make even the pain of heartbreak sound comforting. The warmth of his voice and intensity of his words seem to come so naturally; still, the road to the top of the charts wasn't always smooth for the singer/songwriter. Arthur grew up in Middlesbrough, England, but bounced around between various homes, even living in Bahrain for a few years, before returning to England and getting serious about music. As a teenager he began writing and recording songs and performing locally in alt-rock bands. By 2011, he was pushing for a solo career. He ended up among the final 200 contestants on the U.K. version of The Voice, but never made it further. That hardly deterred him, though. He soon found himself in the finals on The X Factor. Upon winning the ninth series of the show, his debut single, a cover of Shontelle's "Impossible," made it straight to No. 1 in the U.K. and became the country's fastest-selling single in 2012. Arthur then released his self-titled debut album in November 2013. The release showcased his range, between soulful R&B crooner and commanding rapper, and featured single "You're Nobody ā€˜til Somebody Loves You" and collaborations with Emeli SandĆ© and Chasing Grace. For his sophomore album, Arthur signed with Columbia Records and dropped Back from the Edge in 2016, which included No. 1 single "Say You Won't Let Go." Over the next few years, he would join forces with artists like Machine Gun Kelly, Rudimental, Marshmello and Juicy J on various singles, before returning with his third album, You, in 2019.

Never expected a heavy metal show

    by dsquared77 on 5/3/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Was so excited to hear James belt out his amazing ballads but was very disappointed in his show. First, a very long intermission before he finally started. Second, technical issues and constantly trying to communicate with his sound people (I think) and messing with his equipment. Third, insanely loud, again, I think whomever ran sound and did his arrangements should be fired. Despite his huge voice, we could barely hear him. Fourth, this was a hard rock show, not at all what we expected. Even when he did "Impossible", it was sped up and the band was so loud that we couldn't even appreciate the pain of the song.

    Incredible. One of the best.

    by AndyM on 3/27/24

The first time I heard James Arthur performing was an acoustic album launch night in Coventry for ā€œBitter Sweet Loveā€ ā€“ the tickets were great value, especially when bundled with the album, so it seemed like a good date night for me and my wife. It was a great evening ā€“ James Arthur was supported by an excellent group of musicians and was in great voice and humour ā€“ even though his beloved Middlesbrough was being thumped by Chelsea in the EFL cup while he was on stage ā€“ and he was chatty throughout, introducing the new songs to the expectant crowd. At that point I didnā€™t know many of the songs he performed, but I got an impression of a seasoned professional who sang with passion and conviction. The stripped back arrangements really let his voice soar ā€“ and there is no doubt that James Arthur is an astonishing singer. Highlights for me were From the jump, a beautiful duet of Rewrite the Stars with a backing singer and, of course, Say you wonā€™t let go. Being an acoustic album launch It was a shorter concert than usual ā€“ great for the babysitter ā€“ but I was left wanting lots more. Fast forward two weeks and I had listened to new album, ā€œBitter Sweet Loveā€ almost non stop (itā€™s a brilliant album, by the way, one of the best by any artist that I own), scoured YouTube for videos of his live performances and I was hooked, but the itch wasnā€™t scratched. His world tour was coming to the UK ā€“ including Birmingham ā€“ and I knew I had to be there. Thankfully there were single tickets available, so I bought one and prepared to go to a gig on my own for the first time in my life. Thanks to the brilliant JArmy James Arthur Fan Group on Facebook Iā€™d seen clips of his concerts and the show looked amazing, so as the day approached I got increasingly excited. The atmosphere in the Birmingham Arena was electric. Such a buzz from the moment I walked in, just in time for Dean Lewisā€™s set. The crowd cheered and sang along to Lewis, but the cheer for him was nothing like the noise that erupted when the arena went dark and the intro to James Arthurā€™s set began. Immediately you knew you were in for a good time ā€“ the production values were incredible. Bitter Sweet Love is a brilliant song ā€“ the perfect song to begin a live set, and it began with a bang ā€“ cannons firing showers of pink confetti into the arena. Although itā€™s a new song, it is already a fan favourite ā€“ I wasnā€™t the only one who sang and danced along! Blindside had a similar energy ā€“ the excellent band matched by the graphics behind James and his band. After the opening two, James sang a couple from his back catalogue ā€“ Empty Space and Can I be him, which the crowd belted out with him. One moment in Can I be him summed up for me why James Arthur is so compelling as a singer and performer. During an instrumental, he walked away from the mic and roamed the stage, waving and thanking the crowd ā€“ you can tell in that moment he felt a connection with the thousands gathered there, then he returned with a roar full of passion. You can tell he feels every word he is singing. This passion continued with Gospel tinged number, Sermon, where he conducted the crowd, encouraging them to wave their arms in sync with his. Along with passion, James conveys real beauty through his music ā€“ whether through the duet with opening act Neve of Rewrite the Stars, new love song From the jump (which, as he said, I can imagine quite a few couples will be walking down the aisle to) and a duet with Dean Lewis on Falling like the stars, during which the crowd lit up the arena while we sang along. It was simply stunning. James Arthur is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve, confronting very real issues in his songs that many people face ā€“ loss and heartbreak, but above all depression and mental distress. Train wreck is an extraordinary song where Arthur cries for help for someone to pull him out of the train wreck of his life. It was made even more moving this evening when he dedicated the song to a young woman, Tali, who was only 18 when she lost her battle against her mental health ā€“ and I hope those who loved her found comfort in that song that evening. The main set closed with the song where it all began, Impossible, which had a choir of 10,000 singing together, and the show itself ended with his biggest track, Say you wonā€™t let go. When the last note sounded James took his time to wave to every part of the arena, taking his time to say thank you. In summary ā€“ Simply wow. James Arthur was breathtaking and the crowd was with him every step of the way. He is not only a phenomenal songwriter and singer, but heā€™s a great performer too. Heā€™s the real deal. You can tell this means so much for him and he doesnā€™t take it for granted. He deserves so much more respect than he gets. One of the best in our generation. It was a privilege to be there and be part of the crowd ā€“ and Iā€™ll be back!

    Mesmerizing

    by R. O. on 6/17/23

Iā€™ve had the pleasure of seeing this man perform twice now. Sadly the first time was at the Indiana State Fair so it was NOT a full set. The second time was at the House of Blues at Disney Springs in Orlando, FL. I got to share this truly amazing experience with the Love of my life with whom Jamesā€™s music helped bring us together in the first place. After perusing her for some time, I played her the song Naked and that was that. At the concert we both got very emotional hearing him play it live and DAMMIT was it beautiful.

    TEARS

    by LK on 11/29/22

When I tell you I SOBBED like a little girl. This manā€™s voice and lyrics mean everything to me. I discovered his music while in Poland in 2013. In 2019 when I was released after 2 years incarcerated his music was the first thing I listened to and I did every day. To see him perform those same songs in personā€¦he sounded incredible, even better live. Such an unforgettable show and Nina Nesbitt was wonderful. My fiancĆ© was won over once he heard James in person. Lifetime fan.

    Must Go!

    by Josh on 11/8/22

If you are a fan of James' music, this is a must-go. He seems like a super reserved, shy, quiet guy on TV and online, but his concert was an absolute banger. One of the most confident artists I've seen live!

Iā€™ve seen James once before and heā€™s been amazing both times. He changes things up and is so honest and vulnerable with the crowd that it just draws you in. What a voice.

Listened to James Arthur since 2018 and heā€™s always sounded so good in his songs but in person was another level of perfect. Donā€™t hesitate to buy his tickets when heā€™s on tour. James is an absolute rock star! I had so much fun at the show with my friends just singing and dancing and having a great time. If you think he sounds good on record I promise heā€™s even better (and funnier) live! Also Nina Nesbitt opened for him and she was amazing! 10/10 experience!

    Too little too late

by Angela R on 5/23/22The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

James' show started at 9:30. The opening act ended by 8:45, so that was a significant amount of time to be standing and waiting at the Fillmore. I felt it was rude.

    Better than I ever imagined...

by LG on 5/23/22The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

Really cool outdoor spot at Pier 17 to enjoy a good concert and sunset summer night of music. Was really surprised, since I wasnā€™t thinking James Arthur would be that good live. Boy was I wrong. He was amazing! His passionate and soulful performances on every song blew everyone away and made it such a wonderful experience. The crowd was great and everyone behaved themselves enjoying and singing along with the amazing James Arthur.
