About

Jack White in Concert

One of the premier rock stars of the 21st century, Jack White isn't just one the most electrifying guitar players and skilled songwriters of our time, he's a one-man music industry whose influence permeates mainstream and underground rock alike. Born in Detroit, White was a professional upholsterer before his primitive blues-punk duo, The White Stripes, became key instigators of an early-2000s garage-rock explosion that turned them into international media darlings. Certainly, there was no denying the firecracker spark of breakthrough singles like "Fell in Love With a Girl" and "Hotel Yorba," though the duo's striking red-and-white attire and carefully cultivated mystique — with White and his ex-wife/drummer Meg playing up the myth that they were a brother-sister act — no doubt amplified the hysteria around them. By 2003's ‘Elephant,' The White Stripes had fully outgrown their indie roots, with the brontosaurus-sized stomp of "Seven Nation Army" — a soccer-stadium anthem for the ages — revealing a grander vision that White would pursue up to the duo's 2007 swan song, ‘Icky Thump.'

Liberated from The White Stripes' minimalist formation, White has indulged his every creative whim, forming satellite bands (power-pop revivalists The Raconteurs, heavy-blues bruisers The Dead Weather) and embarking on an eclectic solo career that's yielded the downhome serenades of 2012's ‘Blunderbuss' and the dazzling baroque ‘n' roll of 2014's ‘Lazaretto.' At the same time, he's nurtured his Third Man Records label into a multi-purpose operation based in his current home of Nashville, encompassing a record store, recording studio, music venue, and vinyl pressing plant that's been at the forefront of the medium's revival. However, for all his dedication to keeping bygone styles and formats alive, White bristles at being painted as an old-school purist. And to prove it, he loaded up his wildly experimental 2018 release, ‘Boarding House Reach,' with all sorts of modernist touches, like Pro Tools productions and hip-hop-style drum breaks. His current tour finds him adapting those studio-sculpted creations for the stage with the help of a four-piece backing band — and don't be surprised if you see this guitar god get behind the drum kit to give those beats some extra oomph.

Don't be stupid and shrug this off, you have to go to at least one of his concerts in your life! You won't regret it. :)

Best Live Show I've Ever Seen

by Saireuh on 5/29/12Roseland Ballroom - New York City

Jack White's show at Roseland Ballroom in NYC on 5/22 was AMAZING. The opening band, the Alabama Shakes, were a perfect lead-in... and then his performance was spectacular. He opened up with Sixteen Saltines (with the all-female band behind him) and it was intense. He is such a skilled artist and his stage presence is so energetic and honest. Seeing some of those solos up close blew my mind. What a gift he has! Not only did he play some great stuff from Blunderbuss, but he also plays songs originally performed by The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. I was in Jack White Heaven, I think! :) I am hoping to go to another Jack White show ASAP!

Jack White and The Peacocks played an AMAZING show! We were right up front and loved every second of it. He was obviously loving the energy he was getting from the crowd, just as we loved the energy he was playing with. Best show ever! Going to BOTH Wiltern shows, too...CAN'T WAIT!!!

A Jack White Show for Jack White Fans

by Potzer37 on 5/15/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

Great show! Probably one of the best because it was definitely one of my favorite shows that I've ever attended. I think Jack White has always been good about keeping his projects separate. As much as people wanted to hear White Stripes songs at a Raconteurs show; or White Stripes and Raconteurs songs at a Dead Weather show; he never blended the acts or did anything of the sort. (At least not to my knowledge.) Perhaps it was out of respect to his current projects and, then band mates. Regardless, I have never had a problem with this. But that night, it was like sitting at home with my Jack White anthology of albums and listening to my favorites. A potpourri--if you will-- of every reason I've ever had for being a Jack White fan and for thinking he is one of the greatest guitarists ever! These songs were written by Jack White so I don't know why I was surprised to hear "White Raconteurs Weather" at all. But I was and it made me smile. We heard every incarnation of White, including collaborative efforts, like the song he did with Danger Mouse. We also heard some covers of some of his obvious influences, like Hank Williams and Leadbelly. I have to admit I enjoyed the White Stripes songs, most of all. Not because they're my favorite band, but it was nice hearing them with better drums. (Read: I love you, Meg but c'mon.)

Jack White Can Do No Wrong!

by DfromSD on 5/8/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

This was a great show! I've seen his other bands and highly recommend seeing him live. He played a bunch of White Stripes favorites and his talent oozed all over the place. He did the new album justice. Excellent.

    The. Best. Concert. Ever.

by GrandyAndy on 5/6/12Webster Hall - New York

Jack White sincerely put on the best show I've ever seen. His presence in Webster Hall simply made it perfect. The intimacy of Webster made me feel like Jack was playing just for me. If he comes back, I'll gladly pay any admission fee just to have that experience again.

by KTGray on 5/2/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

The other night at the Mayan Theater Mr. White seemed to be channeling silent cinema’s favorite sonambulist. Pale, dressed in black, tall and sinewy. The music jolted and slid him from side to side of his semi-circular prison of ghost-like glories as they each played their particular instruments (steel pedal guitar included). From time to time he engaged in a cadenced connection with one of the ladies that backed him. Singling one or the other out (violinist, pianist, drummer, Ruby, etc) he seemed to be telling the audience a story, each woman embodying a girl from his past. The entire arrangement was thrillingly theatrical and simply sincere. It was reminiscent of Arthur Miller’s, After the Fall. Each girl a memory shifting in an upstage glow, with Mr. White playing off the moment, playing off the memory.

This was an AMAZING show! I didn't really expect anything less, but I simply feel lucky I even got to attend. Tickets sold out in seconds, but my brother and managed to score some. So happy we saw this! It's really great to see a musician like Jack who not only can play well, but really performs well--his stage presence is unbelievable. The setlist was extremely impressive, containing stuff all the way from his first White Stripes album to Blunderbuss--and it was impeccably performed by his all-female and all-male bands. Possibly the greatest thing about this was the venue: Webster Hall, holding a little over 1000 people, was super intimate. We were about 15 feet from the stage--and all this for only $45! In addition, you should check out the performance videos from that night on Youtube, of course Gary Oldman directed the live stream through American Express Unstaged. Really fantastic stuff. Overall it was an outstanding night that truly feels like a dream looking back on it. Couldn't ask for anything more!

Jack White is a Rock God!

by weetziebat on 5/2/12Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

Jack played for an hour and a half the opening act was awesomely fun and local. Jack played with his girl band and he did songs from The White Stripes and that he'd covered on his own and songs off of Blunderbuss. His energy is contagious, he is amazing with his guitar and the night was unforgettable!

Jack continues to express his multi layered creativity in all modalities!!! He really is a true artist and pays attention to all the details that make experiencing live music truely amazing!! ( not to mention listening at home and staying true to the roots of music by re popularizing the use and love of vinyl especially for the generation that came up without them - there is nothing like "vinyl"!! Jack you did it again!!! Thank you friend!!!
