Royal George is an absolutely fantastic showroom and the performance by Chris Lemmon was tremendous. It is an endearing tribute to his dad told through son and father perspective , often with the piano! I would highly recommend it and it was a thrill to see Chris Lemmon do this. I hope he is a part of more live performances in the future. Chris is a very, very good story teller.

Chris Lemmon on Jack Lemmon: Bravo!

by OPKT on 5/20/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

In the early moments I saw nothing but how the son was different from the father. Further into this wonderful one-man tribute, I saw nothing but Jack. Kudos to Chris and Hershey Felder for a marvelous, sentimental-but-not-treacly tribute to a great performer, presented woth affection by his pretty outstandingly talented offspring.

    Amazing Experience

by DocB on 5/20/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

I flew from Oklahoma City to see this show. When Chris appeared on the stage, the audience was in awe. The evening was full of great songs, tears and memories of a great family. Well worth the trip to see a performance of a life time.

    Spreading a little kindness

by Metadoc on 5/19/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

After watching Chris Lemmon's 90 minute performance I walked out of the theatre trying to find the word/s of how I felt. And then standing behind me in the valet parking line a man said, "that was a very, very touching performance." So there's the word. You will be hard pressed not to be touched by this extremely well thought and acted out performance. I loved Jack Lemmon and to this day whenever one of his movies is on TV I sit there watching it even though I know almost every scene and every line. What I didn't know was much about his personal life. But when Chris Lemmon portrays his dad, you see a whole other dimension. And, I liked the fact that he tells his audience what he wants us to know about his father. Chris Lemmon the actor, wonderful musician,...his piano playing is divine..,producer, director, husband and father has given us an intimate glimpse of a most complicated man, and the gift to us is his willingness to share it. I hope you’ll experience that for yourself.

    You don't know Jack

by Alcazam on 5/14/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

In Jack Lemmon returns, his son Chris does a great job of evoking a bygone era, the golden age of Hollywood. Chris doesn't just play his Dad, he becomes his Dad. His is a spot on impersonation that is so good, you actually forget that it isn't really Jack Lemmon. It also reminds you of just how great Jack Lemmon was and how many great movies he was in. While it is clear that Chris is working out his issues with his father, it is also very affectionate. Like most parent child relationships, this one was complicated and I suspect much of what we see is more what Chris wished the relationship could have been rather than what it actually was. If there's a weakness in the show, it is in the writing. Some of the transitions between vignettes are a little rough, and much is left out (for example, you get the impression that Jack Lemmon only had one child (not true). Similarly, the negative consequences of his drinking are underplayed. Nevertheless, this is a most enjoyable 90 minutes and a very intimate theater experience. Chris Lemmon is a very good piano player and it would have been nice to have a few more songs and a few different ones (i.e. in addition to Our Love is Here to Stay which is played too many times). With a little work, this could be a big hit.

    A lemon on Mother's Day

by LakeviewTB on 5/14/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

First of all, my 74-year-old mother loved the show--front row and all. I was under-whelmed overall. I kept thinking of Elmer Fudd. But I enjoyed the music and the story about alcoholism was poignant.

A Lovely Away to Spend an Evening

by LadyLanguage on 5/13/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

All of Hershey Felder's ventures are wonderful and Jack Lemmon Returns is no exception. Chris Lemmon is extremely talented and he has a sweet tale to tell. I only gave it four stars because I thought a couple of the other Felder productions were even better - Gershwin and The Pianist of Willesden to be specific; those two were our favorites. Dinner and valet parking across the street, then the play - definitely a lovely way to spend an evening.

Chris Lemmon Made His Dad Proud

by Leslie66 on 5/12/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Chris Lemmon is the spitting image of his beloved dad. He captures his dad's mannerisms, laugh, voice inflections and exuberance with energy and enthusiasm. In the ninety minutes that passed quickly, we felt like Jack Lemmon was in the room sharing his life and movie experiences with us. We learned inside things about his life that were interesting as well as informative. Chris brings his dad back in a positive and enjoyable way. Kudos to Hot Shot! May his beloved parents rest in peace. They are watching from above with great pride.

    Chris Lemmon was wonderful!

by LateLateNightGirl on 5/6/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

First time at the Royal George Theater and I loved it. Very quaint and intimate theater. Chris Lemmon did an amazing job. 90 minutes non-stop of telling stories of Jack's life. It was heartwarming and funny and loved that he played the piano while telling stories or singing a favorite song. I love old Hollywood and movies, so I was enthralled but even my older sister who went with me and not an old movie geek loved the show and was entertained. I am considering going again, but certainly recommend this show!

    Jack Lemmon Returns was great!!

by LemmonFan on 5/5/14Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Recently attended the opening night of the Jack Lemmon Returns and thoroughly enjoyed it. The theater is intimate and Chris Lemmon did an excellent job. His acting was so good sometimes you forgot he wasn't actually his father in his 50's. The 90 minutes passed in a flash and the stories and pictures of Jack Lemmon's life from birth to death were new and interesting. Jack's mother seemed like a real kick and his first wife Cynthia Stone's beauty rivaled other actresses of her time. The show included humor, great music played by Chris and lots of emotional moments when covering life events. I left the theater wanting to know more about his life and took to the internet the next day.
