J BOOG IN CONCERT:

Hawaii-based reggae rocker J Boog brings the carefree island vibes every time he takes the stage to perform his tropical jams. At his shows Boog and his backing group The Hot Rain Band kick out a sweltering downpour of catchy melodies, funky basslines, and dub riddims that always gets ticket buyers moving their feet. Boog can rap and sing with the best of them, and his larger-than-life personality and infectious on-stage dancing make every show feel like the party of a lifetime. As the group performs upbeat numbers like "Sunshine Girl" and "Let's Do It Again", ticket buyers are transported to an island paradise where getting your groove on is the only thing that matters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

J Boog, aka Jerry Afemata, was raised in Compton, CA on a steady diet of Bob Marley, N.W.A., and Sublime. He grew up singing with his brothers and sisters, and in high school he started performing at local clubs. In 2007 he traveled to Hawaii to see reggae legend FIJI (George Veikoso) perform, and he managed to slip Veikoso his mixtape after the show. Veikoso and his team were impressed, and a few days later they began working together on J Boog's debut album. The result was 2007's Hear Me Roar, a surprise success that cracked the Top 10 on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums chart. The response in Hawaii was especially positive, and in 2009 J Boog moved there to work on music full-time. His rise continued in 2011 with an acclaimed self-titled EP and his sophomore album Backyard Boogie, a No. 1 hit on the Reggae charts that earned him an International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) for Best New Entertainer. Since then Boog has toured extensively with his group The Hot Rain Band, both in support of big acts like Rebelution and on several headlining tours of their own. On tour with Rebelution again in 2016, Boog and company have fans eager to soak up the good vibrations of their unforgettable sets.

Not great live, and a terrible venue

by Bootleg711 on 9/18/23Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I'm confident J Boog is a great artist, in the studio. My wife and I left after 5 songs, hearing only 1 we knew. Doors opened at 7 and the first opener (who we actually liked a lot) went on at 8:15 or so. Then the second opener went on about 9 and played till 10 with his royal highness not starting until 10:15. Not everyone that lives in Las Vegas is on vacation. We both decided we like J Boog recorded, but not live. Part of the reason why we like his music is because it's relaxing and sends us back to the islands when we listen to it. This is not what we experienced, and truly did not care for his music live. Brooklyn Bowl sucks. No place to sit (unless you spring for a lane that's $400+) tons of people and nobody respectful of space. Warm beers and far too expensive drinks. The only good thing is the amount of weed that's distracting you from the ridiculousness of the entire situation. We purchased our tickets on a special, so they were only $25 each, I would never pay to see him again especially at Brooklyn Bowl.

    Started way late

by RJ on 9/17/23Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Great performance, great venue, but J Boog started 3 hours after start time. Maybe put estimated time when main act will start on the tickets. Could only stay for a few songs before we had to leave.

JBoog and the Band were awesome!

by Cyn on 9/14/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

JBoog and the band were awesome! My first time seeing JBoog in concert and he did not disappoint at all. One of my fave event I've been to and will definitely go again. Love the vibe of the audience. Chatted with friendly people.. Just wish they had better control of the lines for merch and the bar at this venue.

    Good show wrong venue

by J916 on 9/11/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

This venue was not the right place for this type of show. I’ve seen J Boog at other venues and had a way more pleasurable experience. The venue was nice and clean however it’s more of a set up for a play than a concert.

    tired

    by ok then on 7/31/23

J Boog just looked tired during his set, his back up singers were great hype men to keep the energy going though. A few weird collabs with the saxaphonist and bassist that was more sound than music.

    very disappointed

by Nestor on 3/29/23Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens - Boston

J Boog's voice was very weak that night. I was disappointed. He relied on back up singers for most of the show. Music was good but his vocals were bad. This ranks as the worst vocal performance I've ever been to.

    LOUD

by Sonny D on 3/4/23The Depot - Salt Lake City

Concert was amazing, the first time I thought people were being too loud though. There were people that were screaming these blood-curdling screams right in our ears. Yes, I get cheering for the group and i cheer loud, but this was just messed up. I even asked them if they could not do it as loud but they still did. This is not what i want at a reggae concert. I want love and peace, but some people thought they owned the place and it was all about them. Please be considerate of others. ❤️💛💚

    More Party Than Concert

by V. N. on 3/4/23The Depot - Salt Lake City

The energy that night was electric. Lots of friends having a good time. The warmup act played too long and J Boog was too short. No one seemed to mind, as the crowd was in full party mode. J Boog played to the party, which meant not playing entire songs, which didn't appeal to me. Fun time, but as I said, more party than concert.

I bought a ticket to see j boog

by Julie on 3/3/23Knitting Factory - Boise - Boise

I feel like J boog didn’t perform his best. He had his guest sign more than him. Sadly, probably won’t go to another show of his.

    What a let down

by Disappointed on 3/3/23Knitting Factory - Boise - Boise

This review is for the venue itself and not for J Boog. First time attending the Knitting Factory. Shocked how small it is. Floors were sticky. A guy fell over and cracked his head open, bleeding all over the place. Someone puked all over the floor as well. J Boog sounded great but we had to leave after 3 songs. Too crowded and dark in there.
