Islands put on a great show

the show started late but active child was magical so the wait was worth it for sure.
Islands put on a phenomenal show. I had heard great things about their performances, and I was certainly not disappointed. Nick Diamonds is an exceptional front man; he is a charismatic performer and a veritable talent. The band sounded tight, interacted with the audience, and provided an unforgettable show. Furthermore, the Bowery Ballroom is an outstanding venue. It's small and intimate; I was able to get extremely close to the stage. Such a positive concert going experience.
the title says it all. their songs are really fun. totally danceable. we saw the band right before them as well but once Islands took the stage you could tell why they were the headliners. they were so good. the band were in costume and the lead singer was wearing a bedazzled white cape which he replaced with a black leather jacket for the encore. he was super hot too.
This was an incredible show, even though there were only 4 members present. Would have been a 5 if they had full instrumentation. They played a few songs off the 1st LP which was a pleasant surprise.
This is the second time I have seen Islands and they have just turned into sloppy musicians with mediocre stage antics to try and get a cheap thrill out of the crowd. They didn't even look half interested in what they were doing as acknowledged by "Niel Diamond" before the Rough Gem encore, "This is what you've all been waiting for..." Yeah, the other music was uninspiring and boring to watch. And then the drummer couldn't wait to get off the stage after the last song... playing cymbals as he walked away and threw the sticks aside with a genuine look of dejected boredom.
This was my 4th time seeing Islands live and they never let me down : ) It's too bad that the members all changed, though Jamie coming back was a fantastic surprise. Nick was pretty groovy with his costume and his music is as great as ever. I do admit though that "Return to the Sea" is still my favourite Islands album, and it was exciting when Islands played some old songs from that album. From "Return to the Sea", Islands played "Whalebone" and "Whitney Bobby" during the performance, and "Rough Gem" and "Swans" for the encore. From "Arm's Way", they played "Creeper" and "The Arm", probably because majority of the songs on the second album has violins by the Chow Brothers. Islands played most of the songs on their newest album, but I haven't listened to the new album enough to know which songs they played and which songs they didn't play : / Overall, the show was amazing but felt way too short : ) I only wished they performed an hour longer!
Islands is a must see act that really rocked my socks off! I bought their album "Vapors," an ever sense then I can't get enough of them! They have elements of pop/indie/electronics/hard rock, which in my opinion is an excellent combo! See them while you can!
