About

Isabel Hagen is a stand-up comedian and classically trained violist. As a stand-up, she has been featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon multiple times, and as a New Face of Comedy at the prestigious Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. Isabel started stand-up immediately after earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in viola performance from the Juilliard School. As a violist, she has played in the orchestra of many Broadway shows, and worked with artists such as Bjork, Max Richter, and Steve Reich. You might be wondering if Isabel ever combines comedy and viola. The answer: sometimes!

  • We laughed and laughed

Isabel was very funny. She started off by asking if anyone in the audience had seen her before? And then asked who had seen her online content - and told us she had a special coming up, and she was going to practice on us! I had seen a few bits on the internet - but I still laughed! She had the room rolling on the floor. And then when she broke out the Viola - going from very intricate playing, to off the cuff jokes. Well worth it - if you get the chance - Go!!!

  • Punchline Fizzles: A Headliner That Couldn't Land the Laughs

by Arturo on 4/29/25Punch Line Philly - PhiladelphiaRating: 2 out of 5

We had an enjoyable evening at Punchline’s comedy show this past weekend, but unfortunately, the headlining act didn’t quite land. Isabel Hagen is undeniably creative, but her style caters to a niche audience—too niche for a headliner. She struggled to connect with the crowd, with minimal eye contact and a delivery that often fell flat. While I appreciate her artistry, she would be better suited as a middle act rather than the main draw. A strong headliner should energize the room and engage a broad audience, and this performance missed that mark. I sincerely hope Punchline refines its booking choices to feature comedians who can truly command the stage and deliver a memorable experience. I wish Hagen well in her career, but I won’t be returning unless the venue steps up its headlining selections.

  • Isabel Hagen: A promising new presence in stand-up

by Pat on 4/28/25Punch Line Philly - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I first learned of Isabel Hagen when I read her article about how marketing is killing stand-up comedy. That interested me as a working comedian in Philadelphia. Also I felt the article was thoughtful and intelligent. When I learned she was coming to Punchline Philly, I got tickets and she did not disappoint. She was funny, bright, and attractive, and I thoroughly enjoyed her performance that night. She also managed to incorporate her accomplished violin-playing into the act (you can tell she's Julliard-trained.) I learned she has a special coming up on TV, and I will be looking for that, even if it contains the material I heard in the live show. I look forward to many years of Isabel Hagen's comedy.
