About

Best known by the moniker Iron & Wine, Samuel Beam's stunning acoustic guitar and quiet voice once again made waves with the release of Ghost on Ghost, his fifth studio album. This largely experimental record delves into the supposedly disparate worlds of pop, R&B and jazz, meanwhile proving the singer's impressive versatility. The accompanying tour schedule included several appearances throughout the United States, as well as a handful in Australia. As usual, Iron & Wine showed no problems selling tickets, with fans anxious to experience both new singles and classic tracks. Ghost on Ghost came as a welcome followup to Kiss Each Other Clean, which similarly represented a departure from Beam's typical acoustic style.

Beam's musical endeavors as Iron & Wine began in 2002, when he released his first album, The Creek Drank The Cradle. This entire collection was recorded in Beam's home studio and mainly featured vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar and the banjo. Iron & Wine later followed up with Our Endless Numbered Days, which was recorded in a professional studio. Later albums included 2007's The Shepherd's Dog and the 2011 release Kiss Each Other Clean, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 charts. Following the release of these later albums, Beam took part in multiple concert series, showing off a live voice that was just as gentle as what fans had heard on their favorite Iron & Wine albums. Although a handful of different instruments are incorporated into the Ghost on Ghost promotional tour in hopes of better reflecting Beam's journey into jazz and pop, the same poignant feel of this brilliant musician's tracks is always maintained for the sake of dedicated listeners.

  • Iron & Wine...

Great show. Opening Erin Ray was a perfect compliment to the main show. She was a lot of fun with a great voice...Iron an Wine is always a great show. excellent banter between sam and the audience. production value is very good, though i always prefer just him and the guitar...would go again...

  • Iron & Wine - a great show

by Lilphischee on 10/1/18House of Blues Anaheim presented by Cricket Wireless - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I have been following I & W for 17 years and have seen them place in some pretty great venues. I got to stand pretty close to the stage. he was awesome as usual, with amazing bandmates. The stage decor was super cool too and lighting was awesome for a small venue

  • Great concert! Iron and Wine......the BEST!!

by Swt7angel9 on 10/1/18House of Blues Anaheim presented by Cricket Wireless - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Iron and Wine is incredible and I'm so happy we were able to see him live. Sam Beam is an amazing artist and I would recommend anybody seeing him live and listening to his music. He was funny and engaged with the crowd.

  • It was just ok.

Always love Sam, but never know what the tempo of the show is going to be. This was too chill for me. So many different arrangements on the songs - barely recognizable. Opening act had a beautiful voice but the songs all kind of sounded the same. Disliked standing so I should have have gotten VIP seats. It was all a miss for me.

  • Really?...Sam, We expect better.

by Philthecrab on 11/17/17Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Iron & Wine several times before and always enjoyed it. This should have been a "no brainer". However, this show was a big letdown. The new arrangements were drab and the newer songs were delivered without any enthusiasm. I know the band is good. I saw them perform on TV and YouTube. I love the new album. But Sam, it seemed like you were calling it in. Flubbed lines a cute once, after that, it comes off as unfocused and lazy. Taking upbeat songs and making them dirges is not being "an Artist", it just makes for tough listening (ie. The Desert Babbler). We paid good money for the tickets and parking in Manhattan is not cheap. It will be some time before I go to another one of your showa.

  • Mostly great. Over produced

Love the music but over produced( over piano and drums) set list does not carry through the journey

  • Iron and Wine - it’s an art

    by Bozwell2 on 11/16/17Town Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Great concert and performance but there were some songs that were played slow but that’s the great part of a live performance is that the artist can change at will. Sam is an amazing lyricist, poet and performer! I’d highly recommend seeing Iron and Wine!

  • Soporific

Tunes sounded off, no sax!! It was dull. Also the restroom is in a bad spot.

  • Iron & Wine Concert was so amazing!

by Anonymous on 11/5/17Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The concert and set list were fantastic. Loved hearing some of the old songs that always put me in a great mood. The entire band sounded so good. We had a great night!

  • Sam Beam is magic

    by Daniellerenee4 on 10/31/17Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

He is brilliant and his voice is as good if not better than recordings. He captivated the entire crowd and while he played you could hear a pin drop and see people moved to tears. He's just brilliant.

  • Music sounded great

The music sounded great, but the venue was just ok.

  • No A/C ?!?!

by Anonymous on 10/29/17The Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

Iron and Wine were great but the venue (church) had no A/C. It was literally like a sauna. My guess is Iron and Wine would have performed for longer had it not been so hot.

  • Incredible!

by IvyP on 10/22/17Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time seeing iron and wine live. I have been a fan for many years, and I was not disappointed! It was a wonderful show that my husband and I throughly enjoyed. The music was amazing, and his interaction with the audience made it all the more enjoyable! All in all, it was an amazing experience!

  • Great band, but did not play a lot of famous songs

    by Cri1611 on 10/22/17Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

They are a great band, great charisma, but I was a little frustrated that they did not play some of their most famous songs...

  • So good

No matter where your seats are this is a great show. Amazing music, great atmosphere. Totally worth every penny.

Better than the best. It was amazing. I would definitely seem them again.

  • What a beautiful show!

    by Nicolet1989 on 8/31/17Tivoli Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing Iron & Wine live! After being a fan for several years I finally had the opportunity to go to a live show. Was not disappointed at all. Sam sounded just as good, if not better, than he does recorded. Had a great stage presence and every seemed to really enjoy themselves. You could tell everyone was there to sit, listen, & enjoy the music. Would go again any day of the week!

Love their music. Wish he had played Flightless Bird. Also didn't like the banter with the audience and his use of profanity. Recommend buying their music and skipping the concert. They were great at Bonnaroo a few years ago. Wish this performance had been more like that one.

  • such a good show

by karmadee on 8/31/17Tivoli Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 4 out of 5

Sam and band are so talented and perform beautifully. Lots of laughter in between songs (and sometimes during). It was a great night. The opening band was horrible. I hope he finds a new opener because it does not set the right tone for seeing Iron & Wine.

  • Intimate Evening

by AllboyMom on 11/16/15U of I Main Lounge - Iowa CityRating: 4 out of 5

This was like no other concert I have ever attended. It was basically Sam just asking the audience for requests...people would shout out various song titles, and he would play one. There was some dialogue back and forth with the audience, but it was far more intimate than I had imagined. I took my sons - one of which was celebrating his golden birthday 11 on 11/11. It was a great opportunity for them to see a true singer-songwriter without the typical fan-fare.
