International Champions Cup North America Live

Picture this: Perennial contender for FIFA Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus, taking a pass from teammate Aaron Ramsey, dribbling past Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and blasting a goal past goalkeeper Keylor Navas in front of a screaming crowd of 100,000 people. Normally, you'd have to be in Europe to witness this kind of marquee soccer action, but not when the International Champions Cup comes to North America each year. The North American portion of the Champions Cup brings together the most elite clubs in Europe before their respective seasons begin overseas, for an unparalleled display of world-class soccer across 11 U.S. stadiums. A 2014 match between Manchester United and Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium drew 109,318 fans and was in fact the highest attended soccer match ever on U.S. soil. The 2019 tournament features clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and for the first time, a Mexican team in Guadalajara F.C. The International Women's Cup starts a month after the Men's and features clubs like Lyon, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City and NC Courage.

International Champions Cup North America History

Since 2013, the International Champions Cup has been bringing the best soccer clubs in the world for exciting exhibition matchups in the U.S. What began as a separate cup for each region of the world is now centered primarily in North America, and a single winner is crowned based on the number of points after three round-robin matchups. In 2018, Tottenham Hotspur took home the cup with Borussia Dortmund as the runner-up. The nationwide venues for the tournament include football stadiums with a 70,000+ person capacity like Levi's Stadium in the Bay Area, MetLife Stadium in the New York area, NRG Stadium in Houston and others. Smaller, soccer-specific stadiums also play host to Cup matches like Kansas City's Children's Mercy Park, Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, SeatGeek Stadium near Chicago and more.

  • Disappointed

by TonyReynolds on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 3 out of 5

It was very exciting for us to be able to attend a pitch that typically only the Europeans get to see... or so I thought. The first half was ok. I did notice players that I normally see on TV not really going 100%. Chelsea was leading 2-0 at the half. The 2nd half was a joke. Both teams subbed literally everyone. Boring and a disappointing ending to what we had been anxiously awaiting all summer. @ almost $100 a seat, I fell somewhat ripped off.

  • top-shelf event

by jeffharper on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was a really extraordinary event for Indy. Two world-class programs basically played their starting Xl. Since tbe venue was cor American Football, the pitch didn't seem to hold up under theplayers. Still, a great (but very expensive) game!

1st half was great...2nd half declined when Inter brought in subs. Still don't like Chelsea...

  • Splendid Football

by FussballEchteLeibe on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

It was a wonderful experience and the seats provided an excellent view of the pitch. Definitely the best view for the price. It was great to see a level of talent in person, that was far beyond the skill level of MLS teams, I wouldn't hesitate to go again.

  • Soccer game

    by Mark14 on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Stadium was too big for crowd. Attendance at 42,000 was very strong for a soccer game. However, with all the empty seats it felt a little empty and thus lacked the feel of an amazing game. However this may have been due to fact our seats were high up. Ticket prices were too expensive.

  • Chelsea FC was amazing

    by PBrock12 on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Def worth the extra money for the seats we got. lines to consessions and bathrooms were way shorter. Facilities were top notch. Wish Chelsea would play at Lucas Oil Stadium every year.

  • Great to see Chelsea!

I really only have two complaints! First of all, I love security, but perhaps opening the gates earlier to allow for people to get through the line before the game begins would be helpful. Also, I love the charity of allowing people to go to a lower bowl to view the game, but the back row were the people who purchased last minute and were not as excited about the event, so maybe send the front row of the upper bowl down. The vent itself was awesome and I was very excited to have these European giants play for us!

Amazing event! So great to see world class talent in Indy. Fans were excited and happy, teams played hard. So glad to have such an awesome opportunity in the Midwest!

  • mixed feelings

by bastrobella on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 3 out of 5

The venue was great, turnout fantastic -- but what was up with the teams? Inter played like they were out for a Sunday stroll, especially their midfield! And Chelsea didn't put their best/best-known players in until well into the second half! I guess they thought the rubes in Indiana wouldn't know the difference and would just be thrilled to watch live soccer. Well, we were thrilled to watch live soccer, but we do know the difference between a well-played match and a half-a$$&# effort. Hope the next big game we get in Indy is played with a little more energy and enthusiasm by both sides. Moses did deserve the "Man-of-the-Match."

  • Championship Cup Soccer - Lucas Oil

What an outstanding display of hospitality and accommodation! Way to go Lucas Oil and Indy Eleven! Really a cool opportunity to see big name soccer in Indy. Would definitely welcome future events & can't wait to watch from the stands at IUPUI, Go Eleven!

Lucas Oil is a world class venue and it was great to watch a world class Football club like Chelsea. It was a great night and simply great fun.

  • Chelsea Soccer is phenomenal

    by PK4UK on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

This was definitely a different style of "football" but it was continuous action with no long pauses in action for tv. Nice watching 2 of the upper echelon teams in action. Will do it again when Chelsea is in action.

  • First "real" football game at Lucas Oil Stadium

We loved watching Chelsea play Inter-Milan! It was a great game and so exciting to see our favorite players in person. We were given Chelsea flags as we entered the stadium which is a beautiful facility. Easy access to parking - great food - great seats! I would love to go back!!!

  • AMAZING!!

Great seats! Great stadium! Wonderful day of Futbol!!!

  • Good game, terrible officiating.

by sdmeyers on 8/4/13Lucas Oil Stadium - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Great Teams, Great location. The only thing that kept this from being a great game is the officiating. If you are bringing in top notch teams the officiating should be top notch too. Also, the pitch needed a few more days to set. I wish Lucas had natural turf to begin with, bu tif you are going to bring it in you need to let it set for a week or two.
