About

IN THE MOOD - The brassy, All-American celebration of Swing Jazz is finally touring Australia for the very first time in September, with show dates in Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, Brisbane, Mandurah, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney.

IN THE MOOD brings a cast of nineteen featuring the blistering String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra and inexhaustible IN THE MOOD Singers and Swing Dancers from New York, on a nostalgic journey through the music which guided a nation's spirit towards hope, promise and prosperity.

The 1940's was a time when America was in tune with sentimental ballads and up-tempo Swing rhythms, where the waltz and foxtrot competed with the wild, acrobatic jitterbug, jive and boogie woogie crazed Hepcats on the ballroom dance floor.

IN THE MOOD recreates this defining era live on stage through sizzling choreography, sensational scats and romantic harmonies, sassy costumes and an hypnotic thirteen-piece Big Band, belting out an authentic score of over fifty unforgettable hits from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and the Andrews Sisters -

Chattanooga Choo Choo, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (of Company B), In The Mood, Tuxedo Junction, Sing, Sing, Sing, Sentimental Journey and so much more.

Now in its eighteenth season of sold out performances throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, IN THE MOOD was performed at an Inaugural Ball for President Clinton and selected by World USO as an official entertainment for the 50th Commemoration of World War II.

IN THE MOOD Creator, Producer and Artistic Director Bud Forrest was also the accompanist for the official United States Air Force Chorus, the Singing Sergeants and says:

"Many of the arrangements were written by Vic Schoen, the conductor for the Andrews Sisters and Musical Director for Universal and Paramount Pictures.  The songs are timeless and this production is as authentic as it gets.  We are thrilled and honoured to be touring IN THE MOOD Down Under!"
Hep cats, lindy-hoppers and fans of the Big Bands, get ready to swing to the music which continues to inspire!

Tickets for IN THE MOOD are on sale from Monday 4 April with concessions for Pensioners, Seniors and Children in all theatres.

    In The Mood...Fantastic!!

by TucsonShowgoer on 3/4/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

We drove in from Tucson for this show with my parents. My dad is a WWII Navy veteran, they thouroughly enjoyed it... my husband and I did too. Great overall feel, great singers, dancers and the band, WOW. This presentation had some humorous moments and a tribute to servicemen and women. Should "In The Mood" return to the valley (this was a one night event in Gilbert) you've gotta go. You'll love it.

    In the Mood was fabulous!

by Justanokie on 3/2/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

The sounds of the Big Band era were so very memorable, and the String of Pearls Orchestra in this musical review of that era brought all the excitement of those bands and their songs alive. The singers and dancers were very entertaining and good especially with the radio announcements and headlines in the program. The singers even got the audience to participate with the Be Bop sounds for one song. Thank you for the salute to each branch of our military from the past and present at the end. I watched men and women from WWII and later stand up proudly when they heard their service's song. My dad stood up when Anchors Away was sung. Over 50% of the audience were teenagers when this music was first heard, and they were heading off to war. GO SEE THE SHOW. OUTSTANDING!!!!

Highly recommend this show. From the orchestra, to the singers and dancing with a little comedy thrown in.......to the tribute to our veterans and active military this show is really entertaining. I just wish my Dad was still alive to have been able to enjoy it with us.

    In the Mood

by Merytle on 2/28/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

I bought 4 tickets for my parents and their friends who are all in their "80's" They said it was one of the best shows they have ever seen. Very professional! No language, no dirty dancing, and all the women were dressed appropriately. They highly recommend it to everyone. It brought back old memories for all of them. "First class all the way" as my father put it and he doesn't say that about too many things. Thank-you

    we loved it

by Kokopelli12 on 2/28/10Chandler Center On Tour Higley Center for the Performing Arts - Gilbert

we loved the music, the singing ,and the dancing. we also appreciated the tribute to our veterans in attendance. To see so many gentlemen, standing to the music and the applause from the entire audience was of historical significance to me. My wife and I are in our 50's and were among the youngest in the crowd. In addition to the wonderful music from the days when they knew how to write a love song, it was a honor to be surrounded by members of a generation that made my life possible through their sacrifice and bravery. I will recommend this to my children, our friends, and when the time comes, I'll take my grand-children to experience this historic time and people brought to us through music. Thanks.

In the Mood was above and beyond marvelous!!!

by 1928 on 2/26/10Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I lived the In the Mood years and my daughter who attended with me loves the music and dancing. The cast are highly talented singers and dancers who were costumed perfectly for the era. The orchestra was fabulous. The announcer brought you into the moment with a fun history prior to the songs. What a perfect and fun show!!!

    Good show!

by bigbandfan on 2/26/10Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The performance steadily built in momemtum as the night went on. The singers/dancers and the string of pearls band gelled nicely. I was the youngest member of the audience at 23 years old... It's a shame, considering the great positive message conveyed by the singers and the inspiring national identity alive and well in that generation. Recommended for ALL ages.

We enjoyed 'In The Mood' so much-we hope it returns next year- We didn't want it to end- A a grandstand performance by all - We especially loved the ending when the group did the service songs and ask that each armed forces member in the audience stand up and be recognized- what a wonderful tribute and show of appreciation and respect-

    In The Mood

by grammydee on 2/14/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

What an amazing tribute to the Greatest Generation. Great non-stop music with the big band arrangements and choreography to match. I couldn't believe they could get so much music into one concert. It was exciting from beginning to end without a lot of unnecessary announcements and "story-telling". the music said it all and the audience responded with a standing ovation, wanting still more. I recommend taking the younger generation along to give them exposure to what good music really sounds like.
