In Flames in Concert
Among the forefathers of Swedish death metal, In Flames have been in the game for almost 30 years. Formed by guitarist Jesper Strƶmblad in 1990 as a side project from his other death metal band, Ceremonial Oath, In Flames would quickly become his main focus.Ā
In 1993, Strƶmblad quit Ceremonial Oath to devote himself fully to his new enterprise. The same year, he recorded the band's first demo with its first official lineup, which featured Glenn Ljungstrƶm on guitar and Johan Larsson on bass (although the lineup has changed often since).Ā
Their demo got them signed to Wrong Again records, who released the band's first album in 1994. Lunar Strain was a solid start for the band, giving them a place to start exploring melodic death metal in a real way. A year later, they released Subterranean EP, which gave them some notoriety with its aggressive speeds and soaring melodies ā it caught the attention of esteemed metal label Nuclear Blast, who signed them.
On Nuclear Blast, In Flames was off to the races, continuing to release increasingly acclaimed music throughout the ā90s and ā00s. With 2002's Reroute to Remain, the band took a left turn and underwent a few substantial stylistic changes, including starting to use clean vocals and employing catchier hooks and choruses.Ā
Their new music had a generally lighter feel, which helped them break through to the mainstream and gain a bigger fan base, They quickly blew up in the U.S. and were booked at Ozzfest. The album peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart. Going forward, they continued their new sound and their new music led them to the promised land. They went on to win four Grammis, the Swedish version of the Grammys.
10/10! AMAZING! They are absolutely incredible live, and I can't wait to see them again.
In my opinion there is no better band! There are allot that I love but these guys are my number one! Canāt say enough good things about the experience. I really hope they make it back to this venue.
We loved the show only disappointment was we were never told the meet and greet time and missed meeting the band. The tickets all stated doors open at 6pm and concert at 7pm. Meet and greet was at 5pm and we were never notified. Missed a once in a lifetime experience due to miscommunication.
My first time at Piedmont hall & 3rd time seeing In Flames, it was a awesome show loved it, In Flames is always a great show
What a great group of musicians. No question how much they love what they do and it shows. You can see them each grooving to the music and the sound was amazing. I was fortunate to meet them at a meet and greet and they were great down to earth people. It was one of the best live shows Iāve been too. I love they came to a smaller venue. Last time I was in a coliseum and you donāt get the passion you can see when up close. Vocals and performance was on point. It was a great concert. Only down side is they didnāt have any of the tour shirts. They ran out before coming here and no chance to get any. Also wish they had their new gin brand and hot sauce available.
Great show, Excellent openers. Creeping Death ! got a new fan. In Flames , Killer light show ! ..and they played a good mix of their catalog. Some older deep cuts I didn't expect. Good times. Piedmont Hall is a top notch facility. From the staff to security. They welcome you and make sure the facility is clean and provide excellent services from parking to beverage and food. Always enjoy going there. They gave me free tickets to the next days concert Steel Panther. A date night for us older folk and again a excellent experience.
In Flames was great! After all these years and these guys still bring it.
Openers were great energy, unique talent and style. Creeping Death impressed, Gate Creepers had great bass, and the venue was a great size to accommodate. In Flames gave an inspired show with old and new sounds showcasing the experience of showmanship. I think they maybe wanted more energy from the crowd, Charleston should definitely show up for their next tour and not be so shy!
In Flames has been my favorite band for many years now. Living in Charleston, SC, the Metal scene isn't as big in other markets. So whenever a band of note comes to town, I make sure I get tickets right away. It was my first time at this venue, but I loved it.
In Flames was beyond awesome. Glad they were at a small venue and wish i had meet and greet. Hopefully they come around more often.
