About

Electronic music pioneer Howard Jones has been a constant presence on the international touring scene for the past four decades, playing live in a number of different configurations including intimate solo shows and dates with his full high-tech band set-up. He first burst upon the contemporary music scene in 1983, with his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers with "New Song". His first two albums HUMAN'S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION were worldwide hits. HUMAN'S LIB reached #1 in 1984 in the UK and featured the hits "New Song," and "What Is Love?" In 1985, Jones released the follow-up, DREAM INTO ACTION, which quickly became a Top Ten Platinum album in the United States and featured the smashes: "Things Can Only Get Better," "Life In One Day," "No One Is To Blame," and "Like To Get To Know You Well."

Howard Jones has sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide and continues to make new music and tour the world. Jones has performed on NBC's top-rated morning and nighttime shows respectively, Today and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His ubiquitous hits can be heard in such high-profile television series and films such as "Stranger Things," "Breaking Bad," "Watchmen," "The Carrie Diaries", "Superstore" and "Bumblebee". Howard Jones' most recent album is DIALOGUE, which was released in September, 2022. DIALOGUE is the third album in a trilogy of electronic releases from Jones with multi-media project ENGAGE coming out in 2015 and studio album TRANSFORM out in 2019. DIALOGUE garnered serious coverage in outlets such as Spin, Stereogum and more.

Howard Jones ROCKS the Music Box

by KLYDZ on 10/17/11The Music Box - Hollywood

I would have to say that the performance of "Humans Lib" and "Dream Into Action" at the Music Box in Hollywood was not to be missed, and certainly never to be forgotten. From the opening number "China Dance/Conditioning" to the closing of the set with "Things Can Only Get Better" Howard held the crowd in the palm of his hand. With the utilization of the latest synthesizer technology, the songs were recreated possibly with a greater precision than I remember hearing live in the 80's. At times I couldn't help but chuckle with joy at how amazing everything sounded. I don't know if it was the maturity of the crowd, or what, but there was delightfully not an over abundance of idiots holding their cellphones in the air. It was nice to be in a crowd that preferred to be in the moment rather than be an obstacle. We danced, we laughed, we enjoyed the hell out of ourselves! Thank You Howard!

    excellent show, excellent venu

by 007DDstyle on 10/17/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Great on both ends of the spectrum. The show was awesome. Howard was amazing as was the two that played with him. Sounded awesome. The floor rumbled. And all was great. crowd was a tad bit of a dud, but I don't care but complaining people get on my nerves. He really such try and remember the set though, but I liked him being so personal and fun. Also the plug before each set was a bit cheesy - really? Com on. We know we like him, and if we want his new or older music we will buy it. You don't need to upsell us. Keep up the goodwork ALL OF YOU. You made my night a super fun.

Howard Jones made me laugh he made simple jokes about needing his IPAD for some lyrics and laughed about his instruments... So talented!

Howard Jones - Things can only get... brilliant!

by fallenleaf on 10/17/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Bathed in the atmospheric synthesized sounds of the 80's, Howard Jones is in top form as he soars through his first two albums (Humans Lib and Dream into Action), cover to cover. His voice sounds amazing and he still hits all the notes. If HJ stops by your town, see this tour while you can - this tour is for anyone who loves synth-pop, and of course, Howard Jones. Like traveling through time to 1985-87, in all the most brilliant ways.

    Great venue, great show!

by StevieJay on 10/16/11The Music Box - Hollywood

Really good show! The Music Box has a great sound system and great bar. His set included every song from his first two albums, certainly his best. The entire set with intermission was just under three hours. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Jed was there!

Nice trip back in time, but it was boring

by gaypalmsprings on 10/16/11The Music Box - Hollywood

I had been looking forward to Howard Jones for a long time. The last 2 acts I saw at this venue were OMD and Paul Simon - so maybe my expectations were too high. Howard looked bored, and his music was lifeless. He talked (mumbled) way too much, and tried humor with little success. The attendance was only about 600 - and the balcony was roped off. There was no opening act, and there was an intermission that was too long. I'm glad I saw him once, but I have no desire to see him again. BTW - the following night I saw Gloria Gaynor, Evelyn Champaign King, Thelma Houston, and Anita Ward at a local casino - and they rocked the house 100 times more than Howard Jones.

HoJo Great! Venue not so much.

by GoodOCKarma on 10/16/11The Music Box - Hollywood

It was so great to see HoJo again after all these years. Playing songs. All of us singing along. Brought me back to such great times where his music helped get me thru high school! Venue intumate but sounds were very muddy. Over bassed like a rap concert or something. Fixable if they cared to.

Mr. Jones is still at the top of his game!

by RMOnAir on 10/16/11The Music Box - Hollywood

My better half & I decided to go to this show at the last minute...We being huge 80's fans figured it would be an okay show as most 80's acts are...But where we stunned...Howard and his band samples EVERY sound of the Humans Lib & Dream Into Action and performed them to EXACT perfection...Mr. Jones's vocals are still spot on and he is the consummate showman...He is a pleasure listen to...His self deprecating humor makes him quite the endearing performer...His show was a delight for the entire 3 hours he performed...If you have a chance to see him...DO IT!!!

    Howard Jones was awesome!

    by Nikkikki on 10/14/114th & B - San Diego

It was so great to see him live in concert. I am convinced that he and the other "band members" were just holograms behind their laptops on stage. I only wish I had been old enough to see him when he was big in the 80's. He played for over two hours and did like 30 songs. Great value for the money! I would have listened to him play all his albums live.

Howard Jones is an Awesome Performer & Artist.

by Floshizzle on 7/17/11Montalvo - Saratoga

The Montalvo venue was beautiful. The Garden Theater was everybit a kiss of nature. Beautiful trees and manicured grounds the theater almost has to be discoved as you find your way through the center. The unique venue paired with a Howard Jones electric show was fabulous to say the least. At first thoght you wouldn't expect either to go together but as Howard Jones is not just a master of synthesizer and composition he drives each song with meaningful lyrical content so feeling and emotional. That the natural enviornment of the venue paved the way for songs from Human's Lib and Dream Into Action two of Howard's finest albums. The songs sounded better than the album originals. And the quality of the sound was amazing you could notice a surround effect during the show. The show was creative, moving, funny and pure genius. Howard is so personal and loves to communicate between the songs, tell stories and crack jokes. He is a true entertainer. What a display of talent on that stage. All i can say is don't miss an opportunity to enjoy an evening with Howard Jones "Live" .

    Howard Jones Villa Montalvo

by yacsman on 7/13/11Montalvo - Saratoga

He started the show 15 minutes early. I'm glad we arrived early enough to catch his entire performance. He had a drummer playing Roland Electronic drums and the mix was fantastic. Another musician/technician on stage used a Mac laptop to synchronize the sequenced tracks that Howard played along with. I did miss hearing some of his familiar hits from his first two albums, but all and all it was a very good sounding and entertaining show.

    Super Fun!

by kimish on 7/12/11Montalvo - Saratoga

Howard Jones was my absolute favorite in high school and all of my friends knew it. My first Howard Jones concert was 25+ years ago and I loved it! This concert was even better because the venue was small and the crowd was hysterical. There is something about an artist interacting with the crowd that really draws me in. Howard was funny and engaging. He hasn't aged a bit. Every so often, I would look at my husband and laugh because I felt like I was 18 again! Thanks for bringing me back to hig school, Howard!

    Howard Jones sparkled at Montalvo!

    by Bunnie1969 on 7/12/11Montalvo - Saratoga

In the Eightie's there were Duran Duran fans and Howard Jones fans. If you loved Duran Duran, you might like Howard Jones but you weren't an avid fan and vice versa. I was Duranie and still follow them but I tend to stay away from those 80's rewind tours because I like seeing bands that are still making great music and have tried to stay current. I attended the Howard Jones show on July 10 with my friend, who is still one of his biggest fans. I admit, I mostly went for her, not sure how I felt about a night of hearing Howard re-hash his first two albums in their entirety but I am happy to say I had a fantastic time! After the first couple of songs, he gave a nod to Cupertino, saying technology had finally caught up enough to allow him to play all of his music live. He played for an impressive two hours, with "Everlasting Love" as the encore. His voice is still lovely and his smile was nearly as sparkly as the outfit he donned for the second half of the show. Thank you Howard, for a great night!

    Howard Jones is timeless!!!

by GunnerGo on 7/12/11Montalvo - Saratoga

The show was amazing! What a joy to see Howard finally be able to fully reproduce and perform his mid-80's his music on stage -- with his passion and grace beaming though! I hope to see him again....

Great fun, great music, beautiful venue

by ChromeJester on 7/12/11Montalvo - Saratoga

I was uncertain what to expect with this concert, not having spent the time to research it. Hey, it was Howard Jones, I knew I was going to enjoy it no matter what! But it turned out to be a concert based on his first two released albums (Human's Lib and Dream Into Action), played live. Seems to be a trend amongst many bands who have been around for a while. No complaints here, I loved the first two albums! Howard was center stage with two other musicians. Everything was programmed sequencers, electronic drum kits, and Apple MacBooks and iPads. While the equipment is all state of the art, the sound produced was a perfect match for the original songs. It's amazing how much sound was produced by the three guys. At first, Howard seemed rather cool towards the audience, I got the impression that he was just going through the motions. But he did warm up after the first few songs, and by the end of the show, really had the audience on his side. They saved the higher-energy, familiar, danceable songs for the end of the show, and the venue allowed people to gather in front of the stage for the last couple of songs to dance. Good choice, and well received. All in all a good show. The only thing that made it slightly unenjoyable was that we were surrounded by people who were shouting conversations to each other over the music I was trying to listen to. Thankfully, when the more familiar songs were played, they all moved off to dance. I guess people don't mind spending big bucks to sit through a lot of music they don't know and don't like just to get to the one or two songs they remember from pop radio.

    Best way to visit 1984!

    by 1964dougnbryan on 7/12/11Montavlo - Saratoga

Howard Jones treated us to a great journey through his first two albums "Human Lib" and "Dreams into Action" at this intimate Montavlo event. His voice was terrific and his use of electronics driven by Apple computers was really cool. And for the entire evening it felt like we were back in 1984. Thank you Howard and keep it up!

by bulaa on 7/8/09Aladdin Theater - Portland

Great show, like the small venue made it up close and personal. The energy was up and he still rocks. For three people they made incredible music. Would go back to see him anytime.
