What I think about What I Know
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
I felt it was masterful how August’s life’s lessons were weaved eloquently into a friendly narrative. One that was intriguing and inviting. I was reminded of sitting on the carpet at “story time” in school with my legs crossed and hanging on every word as my teacher colored the mind-scape of my imagination. I holla !!!

Absolutely Awesome !!
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
Harry Lennix left me wanting another hour. I thought I was a true August Wilson fan but learning some tidbits I did not know made me appreciate the man even more. That 90 minutes went by much too quickly. The depth in the delivery was enough to hold the audience as well as myself fully captivated. Money well spent and an afternoon much appreciated. If it extends I will see it again.

A stunning hour and forty-five minutes
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
Lennix gripped the audience with his velvet voice, poignant movements, and unforgettable story-telling skills. For the full hour and forty-five minutes, I was glued to and often at the edge of my chair with inspiration, emotion, awe, laughter, joy, sorrow, and everything in between. By far the most impressive one-man-show I have ever seen.

Learning about August's early years
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
Great background on one of the greatest American playwright. Only wish August had shared more on his intentional connections between the 10 elements of his decades long story.

A Tour de force
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
Amazing story telling about a colorful and fully lived life. Full of humor and humanity and the sensitivity to the black working class man in the 20th century. Lennox was masterful and brought the msn, his experiences, hopes and fears alive. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in the making of an unconventional playwright.
Broadway In Chicago is excited to join Congo Square Theatre Company in announcing its continued 25th Anniversary celebration with the Chicago premiere of HOW I LEARNED WHAT I LEARNED, August Wilson's autobiographical show. Directed by Ken-Matt Martin and featuring Chicago's own Harry Lennix, this limited engagement will run from April 20 - May 5, 2024 at Broadway In Chicago's Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut St).
HOW I LEARNED WHAT I LEARNED follows Wilson's journey as a young Black writer from Pittsburgh to one of the most celebrated American playwrights of the 20th century. Written three years before his death, the one-man show recounts numerous stories from the author's long career and the lessons they taught about what it means to be a Black artist in America.
