    Fun!

by Loriumc on 8/21/13Bayou Music Center - Houston

A different kind of evening! We learned at least the general rules of a new sport and enjoyed the personalities on the floor and in the stands! Definitely something everyone should experience at least once!

    Roller Derby Fan for Life

by RogueRage on 8/15/13It's a move up from Houston Indoor Sports, but you there are blind spots upstairs. - Houston

It may take you a minute to comprehend what's happening if you've never seen roller derby before, but once you begin to see the technique and strategy inside the chaos, you realize these women truly are professional athletes with skills they've acquired through consummate training. They hit hard and skate crazy fast, but when the bout is over the skaters are totally accessible, like few other sports of this caliber. Autographs for yourself or your kiddos are easily acquired by sticking around after the bout to "rush the track" so to speak, where you can meet the skaters. On top of all of that, you can have a drink with your favorite skater by attending the after party, which is always announced by the announcers, so you know where to go. It's a great sport! With some really special athletes who skate for the love of the sport and its fans, nothing more.

    Houston Roller Derby was fun!

by falselyimprisoned on 6/18/13Bayou Music Center - Houston

This was my first time going to a roller derby. They explained the rules at the beginning, which I really appreciated. The players had great personalities and interacted with the crowd, the announcers were entertaining as well. It was a memorable evening and the price is right! The ONLY bad thing was that the seats in the balcony are totally worn out. It was very uncomfortable sitting on the lumpy/nonexistent foam of the balcony seats. They really really need to be restuffed!

    Really fun to watch!!

by chloepal on 6/17/13Bayou Music Center - Houston

My husband and I had never seen roller derby in person and really enjoyed it. One thing would have made it a lot more enjoyable and that's knowing we could have bought chairs. I thought I looked very carefully at the information when purchasing the tickets and never saw this mentioned.

Go once and you are hooked....can't wait to go bac

by lelletee on 4/22/13Bayou Music Center - Houston

Spend the extra few bucks and buy the VIP tickets but don't wait until just before 7 to get there. You want to get a good seat in the VIP area. There may be chairs and all but you still don't have an assigned seat and want to get a prime viewing spot. If you get the GA tickets you'll find yourself standing for 2+ hours or sitting on the hard floor. Just a word of advice from this middle aged gal. For your ticket you get a garage band, hilarious (but informative) announcers, a few in the crowd promotions, two hour long games and if your lucky like we were you meet some very cool people who are having fun too! This is not the roller derby of your Saturday mornings as a kid...these gals follow league rules, play hard and have some mad skating skills. Plus very cool names: Bustin' Beaver, Rapid Monkey (which we thought was Rabid Monkey most of the night!), Jekyll & Heidi, Mayhem Angelou and this one Fright Train that kicked some serious skating butt. The usual overpriced Bayou Place booze is available, they sell some cool merch for the roller derby teams and it's good clean fun...bring your family.
