HOT CHIP IN CONCERT:

Hot Chip lights up the dance floor every time they take the stage to deliver their inventive, synthesizer-driven take on electronic pop. In addition to traditional instruments like guitar, bass, and drums, this British septet incorporates a bevy of synths, drum machines, and unexpected samples to produce their infectious grooves in concert. The resulting sound is monumentally funky, endearingly quirky, and impossible to deny. Dance floor anthems like “Don’t Deny Your Heart”, “How Do You Do It?”, and “Burning Up” are guaranteed to have you shaking your booty and breaking a sweat. Hot Chip is taking their discotheque-meets-art-gallery vibe on tour to promote their 2015 album Why Make Sense?, promising ticket buyers a freaky dance party they won’t be able to resist.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Alexis Taylor (lead vocals/guitar/synths) and Joe Goddard (vocals/synths/percussion) founded Hot Chip while attending Cambridge University in 2000. By the time of their 2004 full-length debut Coming on Strong, the duo had added Owen Clark (guitar/bass/synths), Al Doyle (guitar/synths/percussion), and Felix Martin (drum machines/percussion) to their live performances. The new members contributed to the band’s 2008 album Made in the Dark, which featured popular singles like “Shake a Fist” and heralded a new echelon of success for the group. Hot Chip added Rob Smoughton (backing vocals/bass/guitar/percussion) and Sarah Jones (drums) to round out their performing lineup, with both becoming official members shortly thereafter. The band maintains a rigorous touring and recording schedule, and while they might look like they’re playing musical chairs as they trade instruments on stage, they maintain a lively and cohesive sound that has thrilled audiences around the world.

Hot Chip will make you Dance!

by BradMW on 4/20/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

Hot Chip put on a high energy show that will make you dance. They played a good mix of old and new songs. They ignored most of their quieter ballads which was fine by me. They kept the energy up during most of the show.

    The XX Rocked

    by Jake232323232323 on 4/19/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The most remarkable part of the show was when the crowed went nuts after The XX left the stage. Never before have I seen an audience insist that the opening act return for an encore. When the techs began breaking down their equipment and setting up Hot Chip, the audience hissed and booed. Even when Hot Chip took a break before their encore, the audience again began to chat "XX". The most unremarkable part of the show was The Fox's lame acoustics. If not for The Fox always sounding so lame it would have been a four star show.

Hot Chip sweet on the floor, but not on the Balcon

by Casbah on 4/19/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The XX was a short show, but Hot Chip was legit. I would not recommend going to this type of show if you can only get balcony seating...

Hot chip was good, the crowd wasn't

by BeerisGood on 4/18/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The XX got the show started. They did what they do, play dreamy soft rock with a tinge of R&B. They played well. But I really wish the percussion was louder. Hot Chip played songs from many albums, but besides one song, the crowd really wasn't into it. I mean, they play dance pop/rock music. But no one was really moving. People at the very front were stoic. I wasn't really feeling it so i decided to walk around for the second half of the show. Overall, not a bad show, just not what I was looking for.

    Pathetic band

by piamoak on 4/18/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I went to their concert to see The XX who were the opening band that night. The XX was good (a bit too big a venue for them perhaps, but it was nice anyway). But I really can't understand how these two bands got to play together. I hated Hot Chip and left after 5 songs, which I usually never do. Sounded like pathetic dance music from the 80's (the worst of it). Totally miserable.

    xx + hot chip= epic

by Anonymous on 4/17/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Two of my favorite bands in one night, in one of the best venues in the bay area, I had some pretty big expectations. It was even better than I thought it could be! Super rocking!

    by youknowit999 on 4/17/10Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Hot Chip sounded nothing like their CD. Period - worst concert I've gone to.
