    Amazing shows in Cincinnati

by National Phan on 9/20/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

From start to finish Homecoming was fantastic - super organized, beautiful venue, friendly and helpful staff, good merch, and a band line up that couldn't be beat. The National brought their A game both nights - extra and rare songs, fantastic performances, great sound, lots of time engaging with their home crowd!

    On A Bloodbuzz

by Willow on 9/20/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

Homecoming Festival was wonderful. Great lineup of bands, highlighted by the Walkmen, Pavement, Patti Smith, and of course two spellbinding nights with the National. The music was just incredible. A couple critiques: It’s too bad that there weren’t more local food and drink vendors handling the concessions, and it would have been great to have a coffee vendor for GA not just VIP. Otherwise I thought the setup was really well conceived. The indoor/outdoor hybrid was very cool and provided a nice balance between the music outside and the merch and bathrooms and concessions inside. The setting couldn’t have been more beautiful, with lovely landscaping and a stage setup that straddles the Ohio River and the Cincy skyline. Awesome festival, bring it back in 2025!!

    Cooped up and no shade

by AP on 9/19/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

In the past I appreciated the multiple stages, the ability to move around a larger space, and seek out shade. This event felt cooped up and lacked shade, made worse by unrelenting sunlight that reflected heat off the fake grass. The stage also seemed too small for the day time performers. The bands competed for space with surrounding equipment, restricting their movements. The food options were also very limited (especially vegetarian). It seems like poor planning to have people leave the music in order to eat, or find coffee. Overall, it reminded me of an airport experience.m, tolerating conditions instead of enjoying it as part of the experience. The festival “vibe” was lost.

    Fantastic Show, Great Venue!

by Nick on 9/19/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

I live in Covington and road a scooter to the show, second night was hard to get a view for short folk like me but managed. Intimate although outdoors, sounded great. A little more food availability wouldve been nice. But being able to leave and grab dinner then return was a welcome allowance.

    Great sound, weak service

by Andy on 9/19/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

Bands were great Sound was good Outside turf was really hard on your back Food service for a full day festival was completely inadequate. Drink selection was very limited (why no Cinti beers at a event called Homecoming? ) and then you ran out? Fail all around.

    Homecoming Every Year Please

by XtraBigEars on 9/19/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

We drove from Toronto Canada, and we were not disappointed. It felt really special. And the venue and weather were awesome. Please make this annual tradition! Cincinatti is also awesome. Next year, The Walkmen just before you guys so we can have a longer set of them please. :)

    Festival was not a festival

by Greg on 9/19/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

The National is fantastic! Let’s get that out there first. The venue was in a different location than the previous Homecoming festival which was a massive downgrade! If you are going to market a 2-day “festival” and charge $250 a ticket…then you are required to have more than two places to eat, a location that is more than just a slab of turf in front of one stage…and only have just that one stage. One more massive gripe…the gripe of all gripes…Saturday before the National started, I waited in line missing three songs to only get to the front of the line and be told there out of beer. Out of beer? Like out of all beer. Again, charge me $250 a ticket, kind of expecting to have a beer to watch the headliner. Huge fail. #whiteclawsucked

Great time on Friday Sept 15

by Derbyzdad on 9/19/23The ICON Festival Stage at Smale Park - Cincinnati

The National put on a great show for their hometown audience. Loved getting to hear "High Violet"all the way thru. Patti Smith showed why she is a Rock Legend and played with the same passion as she did almost 50 years ago. Also loved the energy of The Walkman. Glad to have them back on tour. The weather was great which benefitted the outdoor venue. Would have liked a few more food options, but the opportunity to go inside for a/c was an added feature.

    Homecoming was special

by ChuckWingduck on 5/14/18Smale Riverfront Park - Cincinnati

It was definitely the smallest festival I've attended, but there is something special or exclusive about that. I felt apart of a private affair which made a cool evening feel warm. Food was good, beer was great and local vendors were nice. The merch tent was hard to find and the bathrooms were placed awkwardly (not much room for lines to form if they got busy). Overall I had a satisfying night and I hope the festival will come home next year.

    Brilliantly Curated

by Antioedipus on 5/7/18Smale Riverfront Park - Cincinnati

Homecoming was a brilliantly curated festival and run very smoothly. I have attended the MusicNow festival, curated by Bryce Dessner, every year it has been held. Combining that with the more pop/rock/folk/soul nature of Homecoming was a great move. All of the performers, whether classical (MusicNow) or otherwise shared some important characteristics--deep artistry, integrity, boundary pushing. I can't wait to see what they line up for next year.

    Ideal in every way.

by ShellshockGraffiti on 5/5/18Smale Riverfront Park - Cincinnati

The venue was spectacular (Smale Riverfront Park), the bands/musicians were phenomenal (and the two stages with the various side events added up to just the right amount of things going on where it wasn't overwhelming), and the weekend ticket price was unbeatable! Would go again in a heartbeat! A big thank you to everyone who helped make Homecoming happen!

    One of the best fests

by paulalynn on 5/4/18Smale Riverfront Park - Cincinnati

Two nights of The National, days full of excellently curated musical acts, opportunities to attend concurrent MusicNOW festival events, all in a scenic Cincinnati riverside park. A great experience, especially for a first time festival.

    Perfectly orchestrated!

by Rlperky11 on 5/4/18Smale Riverfront Park - Cincinnati

Perfect size festivals for Smale Park. Larger enough to not feel too crowded and small enough to create a more intimate affair. One of my frequent dislikes about music festivals is the lack of restroom facilities. This was not a problem at all. I never waited more than a few minutes to use the restroom and most times one was always available (and clean enough). One digestion would be to have more free water access. Great time, great music, great backdrop!! Will definitely be going again!

Overall, it was a great festival. My only complaint is the limited security checkpoint, particularly when trying to get in for Lord Huron’s performance. Also, why was that group scheduled so early in the day? I liked the two different stages, but I had hoped the west stage would have had a screen for easier viewing farther back. Also, the tour merchandise selection was pretty expensive and not particulary impressive. $25 for a tour poster is steep.

    A Very National Homecoming

by PaulinKY on 5/2/18Smale Riverfront Park - Cincinnati

Attended the 1st Homecoming Fest at Smale Park, on banks of Ohio river. Sunny weather for most of Fest. Did get cold after sundown. Enjoyed just about all the acts there. Loved The Breeders, Feist, Future Islands, Alvvays, Father John Misty, Big Thief, Lord Huron, Sam Amidon, Spank Rock, and of course, The National. Smale Park is a very nice little park, just missing some shade. The shade will come, but the trees are small right now. No problems, only some very long lines for food on Sat. Sure they will fix that glitch. Go to alot of Fests & this one fits in quite well with other weekend ones I attend.
