HIATUS KAIYOTE IN CONCERT:
Australian neo-soul quartet Hiatus Kaiyote has been stirring up significant stateside buzz with their hip hop-influenced sound, jaw-dropping musicianship, and vibe-heavy live performances. At the group's jazzy, laid-back shows stylish frontwoman Nai Palm flaunts serious guitar fretwork while the rest of the band ups the ante with virtuosic keys, bass, and drums. Their instrumental skills are impressive but the real star of the show is Palm's sultry and soulful voice, which she playfully weaves through groove-heavy tracks like "Nakamarra" and "By Fire". With their cosmic lyrics, outré stagewear, and prodigious chops, Hiatus Kaiyote take ticket buyers on an unforgettable future-soul trip every time they tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Hiatus Kaiyote formed in Melbourne in 2011 and released their debut album Tawk Tomahawk the following year. The record was a hit with critics for its progressive combination of hip hop, soul, and jazz, and frontwoman Nai Palm's rich vocals firmly established her as an R&B powerhouse. Rapper Q-Tip caught wind of the release, and in 2013 he teamed up with the band on the collaborative track "Nakamarra". The song was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance -- the first time an Australian group had ever been nominated in the R&B category. After extensive touring the group followed up in 2014 with the EP By Fire, and in 2015 they released their sophomore album Choose Your Weapon. The record peaked at No. 22 on the Australian charts, drawing the band out for an acclaimed tour that has ticket buyers dying to catch them live.
I can honestly say that this performance has been one of the best sounding ones to date. However, the crowd was really weird. They were pushing and yelling weird things towards the artist. Three people argued about their spot in the crowd next to me for and hour. So distracting I couldn’t focus on the show. Despite all that, I really enjoyed the energy that they had on stage.
This concert was EVERYTHING!!! I already love Hiatus Kaiyote, but to see them live was another thing. My sister and I had the perfect spots in the house. The only downfall is that the show started around 9 when it was supposed to start at 7. Overall I enjoyed myself!
This was the best concert!!! Nai Palm’s voice was so crisp and clear. I upgraded to VIP since it was a sold out show and so glad I did! The venue isn’t great for standing room but I was so glad I went
From the opening note to the end, Hiatos Kaiyote delivered an unprecedented musical experience! Most bands consist of the lead artist and the band filling in the gaps. Not these guys. Everyone held their own weight and then some! Nai Palm, Paul, Simon, back-up singers, everybody; showed up and showed out! I can't wait to see them again!
Hiatus Kaiyote was amazing (not that I expected otherwise). A 10 year dream come true. The venue was nice and intimate. The staff was super nice and got everyone inside quickly. The drinks were crazy expensive, seems like more than any other venue I've been to.
They are so great! I would love to see them again soon!
Loved everything about it will definitely see Hiatus Kayote again. The Band , backup singers and Nai voice was amazing!!!

This was absolutely, without a doubt one of the best concerts i’ve ever been to. They were incredible. Nai Palm’s voice is magical and the whole band is insanely talented.

Hiatus Kaiyote killed it! Such a super talented band. I was so excited they had their backup singers this time. This was my second time seeing them live. Love them! Opening act Libretto was awesome too
This is one of my favorite bands and I am so glad I got to see them perform! Nai Palm has such a powerful soulful voice and she did not disappoint.
Incredible, awesome, glorious. Since Hiatus Kaiyote is my favorite band, I had been building this concert up in my head and was nervous that it wouldn’t meet my intensely high expectations. However, it exceeded them greatly. Each of the band members has such stage presence and skill, and the way they mesh to create such beautiful art is wonderful. Each of the band members impressed me. They also reinvented some of their songs to give the audience a unique experience. Their visuals on the projector by Timeboy Visuals were also very well done and added to the immersive experience. I’ll be seeing them at any opportunity I get!
Fun crowd, awesome bartenders and incredible performance by Hiatus Kaiyote. Loved every second of the experience. Will definitely see them again.
Great vibes all around! Hiatus Kaiyote are not only exceptional musicians with very ambitious yet down-to-earth and funky compositions, but also were warm and engaging with the audience. I don’t think I’ve been to another concert in which so many were singing at all times. The opening act was also wonderful, setting the perfect tone for the main act.
I have watched this band mature over the last decade. With each performance I have seen, they give a more dynamic show each time. This was by far the best, and most energetic show I have seen. I have traveled the country to watch them, but the show here was absolutely amazing.
Imagine going to a concert where the majority of the concert the crowd is singing the lyrics and most people have their phones down enjoying the musicality of the performers. Like the experience was crazy. They had a 5 minute ovation at the end to get them back out. In which they started to play some of their older songs in which the crowd cheered even louder. Thank you Hiatus Kaiyote, I know you were tired but thanks for caring about your fans your craft and delivering a wonderful concert. Even if you didn't play my favorite song :)
The sound, vibes, and music was great. Just wish the entrance could have been quicker. Took 40 min to get in
Loved the musical acts as always, however the room felt oversold. People were packed in and my date felt panicky for her first time in the venue.
Nai Palm is all that. Love love love this group. From the musicality, background singers to the hits. They are all that. Wish they came stateside more often. I love HK. Will definitely see them again!
