I enjoyed most of the festival. I was dispointed however in the acoustics for some of the artists. I felt Chrisette Michelle should not have had to shout over the music. Her voice could not really be appreciated. Once Kem came on after her, that was verified for me. I don't know if different artists have their own personal crew to adjust the sound or if the Coliseum hires a crew to do so for all the artists. If it is the Coliseum's responsibility than shame on them. I also felt the same about Charlie Wilson and Franky Beverly. That was the first time I had ever seen Franky Beverly, and I recognize he has some true die-hard fans. His drum section drowned out the keyboards which I think is a large part of his sound. I recognize the voice is not there anymore; but so many of us are famliar with his sound that had the music been right it would have been an asset rather him trying to sing above the noise. I think Charlie Wlson did a smart thing by having a singer parrot him (for a lack of better words, I am not a music critic). He was able to deliver and not have to strain. I would recommend the same for Franky Beverly if he is going to continue to sing. He should be, and I am sure he is, very thankful for his fans. They helped to carry the show. Overall, I enjoyed the festival and think it is a good price, and venue. I am planning on making this possibly a yearly thing. I think Stephanie Mills was wonderful, although like Franky nothing new. However, she is an excellent artist and performer.
