Half Moon Run on Tour

Since the release of their 2012 debut album, Dark Eyes, Montreal indie-rock quartet Half Moon Run have developed a reputation as one of Canada's most mesmerizing live bands. Not only does the group feature four equally versatile multi-instrumentalists — resulting in copious onstage role-swapping — each member is blessed with an angelic voice that contributes to their spine-tingling, church-worthy harmonies. Half Moon Run are the sort of singular band that possess the wiry intensity to rock a small club, the anthemic grandeur to captivate festival crowds and the sophisticated arrangements to enhance the soft-seater theater experience. And to properly recreate their signature songs in a live setting, the band employ two drum sets, ensuring that each show builds into a heart-racing, percussion-pounding spectacle.

Half Moon Run in Concert

Formed in Montreal in 2010, Half Moon Run quickly sprinted to the frontlines of that city's fabled indie-rock scene. On their arresting debut single, "Full Circle," the group effortlessly forged a sound that was both rustic and grandiose, incorporating the forest-squatting harmonies of Fleet Foxes, the emotional intensity of Bon Iver and the disquieting atmospherics of Radiohead into its widescreen expanse. That song would help propel their first record, 2012's Dark Days, to platinum status in Canada, and into the charts in several European countries. After touring with indie heavyweights like Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men, and City and Colour, the group returned with 2015's Sun Leads Me On, which entered the Top 5 on the Canadian Billboard albums chart, earning them a Juno nomination for Breakthrough Group of the Year. (And thanks to anthemic singles like "Turn Your Love," the band also made significant inroads into the U.S., with the album cracking the Top 10 on Billboard Heatseekers chart.) But with their third album, A Blemish in the Great Light, Half Moon Run pivot away from their roots-rock foundation to bring their artier instincts to the fore.

    Half Moon Run, better live!

by gap on 11/10/23Coors Event Centre - Saskatoon

Half Moon Run was amazing, I love their music but they were even better live. We were so impressed by how talented each member of the band was. The only problem was that the concert wasn’t long enough!

    Left concert after 4 songs

by Coco on 11/6/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

After waiting 30 minutes for the opening act to start and waiting another 30 minutes for Half Moon Run to show on stage, we left after 4 songs. We wanted to support a Canadian band, instead were disappointed in the sound, performance and the wait.

    The best concert

by Kim on 11/6/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This was definitely one of my favorite concerts I've ever been to. Right after we left the venue, I wanted to go to another concert of theirs. They are the best performers. Having fun on stage with each other and with the crowd. I had a blast and will go in an instant again when they come to a city near me.

    Crowd too drunk

by Taz on 11/6/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

It would have been an amazing show but the crowd was so rowdy you couldnt enjoy the opening act or parts of half moon run. I will never understand the people that go to concerts just to get intoxicated and have loud conversations

One of the best shows ever!

    by P. M. on 5/25/23Théâtre Corona - Montreal

Half Moon Run is my favorite band, and they are such great musicians, each playing a few instruments, often at the same time. The sound was good and the venue looks old but cute. This was a secret show to showcase new songs and we were only die hard fans singing along oldies and even the newest songs recently released. I just love them and cannot wait to see them again next fall!

I'm sorry, it was all about Tim Baker

by CKM on 10/13/19A and R Music Bar - Columbus

I was there only for Canadian Tim Baker, leader of the now retired Hey! Rosetta. He was at the top of his game, playing a shorter than desired set of solo tunes and one from Hey! Rosetta. I talked to several folks who had not heard of Tim but are now fans. I like Half Moon Run for sure but I'm sorry, it was all about Tim Baker this time.

Those boys are just happy to be up on stage with each other jamming with a group of people who loved their music. You see a genuine happiness in their body language and I would suggest this band to anyone and everyone looking for an authentic experience.

    Absolutely awesome

    by dashortgurl3 on 5/10/16The Foundry - Philadelphia

I just learned of this band the later part of last year, and I instantly fell in love with their music. Seeing them in concert has given me more love for them. They sound amazing, literarily just like their albums, as if they were in the studio. I would love to see them again. Hopefully they'll come back soon

The band is stellar live! The venue is ok.

    by AFan4HMR on 4/4/16Metropolis - Montreal

Rare a band sounds as good or better live than a studio recording but that is the case here. Half Moon Run really packed a powerful show. At the top of their sound. What could have made it better? Maybe some seating available at back of venue? HMR is possibly getting too big for the Metropolis? One ask: play some of your lesser known music too. 'Nerve' is an example... You have much terrific material, you can definitely expand your repertoire to some of the lesser known!
