About

Guylaine Tanguay in Concert

Guylaine Tanguay became a star of the Canadian country music scene in the 2000s, but when she emerged with her breakout album ‘Naturelle' in 2005, she brought a lifetime of experience, going back to childhood performances with her family band. By the time her audiences expanded in size, she managed to forge a performance style that's fiery and passionate while still coming off cool and classy; call it natural star power. And whether Tanguay is belting out her most popular songs or delivering covers of classics by American and Canadian country artists, as on her 2018 Country Fever tour, singing in Quebecois French or in completely convincing English, she comes across as the consummate country singer, even if she did grow up more than a thousand miles from Nashville.

Guylaine Tanguay Background

Guylaine Tanguay was born into a musical family in the Lac Saint-Jean region of Quebec in 1972, and got her start in performing at an early age, appearing with her mother and uncle onstage for the first time when she was seven years old. With such a beginning, it's unsurprising that her childhood was filled with musical accomplishments; winning performance competitions and developing her style at an age when most singers haven't even gotten off the ground. By the time she was a teenager, she was opening for high-profile Canadian artists like Roch Voisine and Fernand Gignac, and cutting her debut album. By the '90s her renown spread beyond Canada and she was appearing in Europe and Japan. Her 2005 album, ‘Naturelle,' brought an evolutionary leap as Tanguay shifted from a pop approach to the country style she'd grown up loving. Canada responded to the move by embracing Tanguay as one of the most gifted Quebecois country artists around. And while her biggest hits have been on the Francophone end of the spectrum, albums like 2018's ‘3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard,' an English-language tribute to the music of the King, underscore the breadth of Tanguay's international appeal.
