Guy Clark tribute was so awesome!

    by Bcountry11 on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Best concert ever! Stories about Guy were both heartwarming and humorous; appreciated hearing those. Vince Gill was a great host and all the music was so awesome. The surprises never stopped as legends walked out to play or sing, like Ricky Skaggs, Chris Stapleton, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou, Bobby Bare, Rodney, Steve Earle and so many others. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I just hope that this was taped!

    Great music, bad sound!

by JimMcWTL on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

About every artist I love and a dozen more that I like a lot played, as host Vince Gill said, 3 hours and no bad songs. The A/C dripped and formed a puddle a few seats down from us, and it was very muggy by show's end. Probably the ninety degree weather outside. The only drawback was the sound man. We were near the back (Row T) and it was way too loud and the treble was unbearably bright. I suspect Kenny, from Lyle Lovett's "Closing Time"who'd been "mixing sound all evening. Sometimes I think that boy, he ain't got no ear." But the artists were great, the memories heartfelt and funny, and all of Guy's songs were wonderful!

I bought my tickets as soon as I saw there was going to be a Guy Clark Celebration! It was worth it. I had the most amazing night and I'll never forget it. I'm still talking to my family and friends about the show.

    Top Five All Time Concerts

    by Terry37128 on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I have been to many shows and concerts, including Springsteen, the Eagles, James Taylor, and many more, but the tribute to Mr. Guy Clark was almost surreal, it was so good. One of the best things that happened is, everyone for the most part obeyed the request not to have their cell phones out recording or taking pictures. It let everyone just enjoy the show. Thanks to Rodney Crowell and all the performers for paying tribute to one of the best songwriters ever.

    Most beautiful, heartfelt tribute

by Cloverbottom on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

From a solo Jerry Jeff Walker to an ensemble finish, this was the most fitting tribute I can imagine for an artist who was a major creative force for so many years. The respect shown by all involved (both onstage & in the audience) was palpable. Plenty of tears & smiles. Just sublime. RIP Guy!

    Guy Clark Celebration

    by Arndt1 on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

This show was unforgetable. One after another super talented singer songwriter performed Guy's songs. So heartfelt and emotional. I wish he could have been there, he would heve been so proud and humbled. No pictures were allowed.

    Helluva Send Off for Guy

by GuyFan on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

One of the most memorable events I have ever attended. I met Guy only twice and never got to know him, but he felt like family because of how important his songs are to me. A lot of people will miss Guy, but I believe this concert was cathartic to us all in our grieving process.

Unforgettable evening of great Guy Clark songs!

by UncleFish on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Vince Gill came out and said, Imagine three hours of No Shitty Songs! That's what we have in mind for tonight! Well, he hit the mark and then some. There were smiles, there were tears and there was laughter as musicians and fans alike got to enjoy a great evening celebrating one of America's greatest songwriters! Starting out with Jerry Jeff Walker and just going on and on from there, ending with everyone on stage singing along with Verlon Thompson on "Old Friends". Not many dry eyes in the house after that!

    A very special night

by ELHfan on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The celebration of Guy Clark's life was wonderful. The array of talent on hand that Guy influenced, befriended and created with was staggering. The lineup made it clear that he and Susanna were the epicenter of a musical movement that changed Nashville and American music. I was honored to be part of this intimate affair. What a night!

    Magical Evening

    by Johnnycubfan1 on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Nashville says goodbye to one of it's most revered songwriters. Even put together by Rodney Crowell and hosted by Vince Gill was a who's who of people influenced and in most cases were friends with Guy Clark. I have seen my fair share of events and festivals, but I would say these 2.5 hours were the most amazing given my love of Guy's songs and the truly amazing lineup of performers who sang and played them.

    Emotional & musical excellence

    by Bike50now on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The evening of August 16, 2016, at The Ryman was an emotionally and musically fantastic evening Celebrating Guy Clark. Thank you to the artists and musicians and thanks to the enthusiastic and at times respectfully raucous crowd for enhancing the memory and spirit of Guy Clark. We were honored and lucky to be in attendance to a concert I will cherish forever. The Ryman was the perfect venue for this Celebration.

    Tribute

    by Runnerguy45 on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

This tribute was one of my concert going highlights. Vince Gill hosted the event that Rodney Crowelll planned. Jerry Jeff Walker opened and we had one great song after another from Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Dave Rawlings, Gillian WelchCowboy Jack, Emmy Lou, Chris Stapelton, Terry Allen. It was a beautiful evening where every artist sung from the heart. There is nothing like the Ryman and to have these beautiful artist singing was a night I'll never forget. I' and a few others left with tears of joy. I'll never again experience a night like this.

    A Celebration to Remember Forever

by AustinSoul on 8/19/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Guy Clark had an impact, large or small, on all those people on stage and in the audience, and you could feel it. Guy Clark songs take on different feelings with each interpretation. And the artists did their best as evidenced by the audience giving standing ovations to at least two thirds of the songs. Many songs brought tears to my eyes. Below we’re asked to name our favorite moment. Not sure I can. Verlon Thompson was not listed as being a performer and I wanted him to be one. So when he came out and added only what Verlon could do, it made my night. Jerry Jeff Walker kicking things off was genius. The three female singers with Sam Bush and Shawn Camp backing them up was the best version of Home Grown Tomatoes I’ve ever heard. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings rendition of Dublin Blues was fantastic. Play it every night! Steve Earle in many ways stole the show if anyone could, but Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett really impressed too. Rodney Crowell deserves special mention for everything he did for the show. I’m stopping here though could write pages more. Great Guy Clark Celebration. I wish Guy could have been there.

    Guy needs to practice.

by Anonymous on 3/6/12Folly Theater - Kansas City

At least half of his songs he forgot the words. It became painful to watch, wondering when he was going to screw up again. We have never seen a performance so messed up even including garage bands.

    Not up to par

by SomeWhatDissaponited on 3/5/12Folly Theater - Kansas City

Don't feel Guy was up to touring following his recent surgery. Forgot the words to several of the songs he sang. Wish Guy had been up to par considering the price $$ we paid for the tickets. Verlyn Thompson kept the evening from being a total lost.

What can you say? Guy Clark, one of a kind!

by TheCosmicTechnician on 3/5/12Folly Theater - Kansas City

Guy Clark has been a force for me since about 1975. I started playing and singing Guy Clark song then and haven't stopped yet. It was clear from the onset that he was not 100%. His leg was killing him. I admire that he showed up and toughed it out. His voice was hoarse and raspy at first but settled down pretty fast. The man is 70 years old and he was a great show even with the problems. He still wrote those great song and performs them like no one else. I went because I had never seen Guy live and this me be my only shot at seeing him. I was happy to see him and equally pleased that Verlon Thompson was with him. Verlon is a fine singer songwriter and a superb guitar player. I would pay the same price and go again tomorrow if I had the chance.
