About

GRIZZLY BEAR IN CONCERT:

With their ethereal four-part vocal harmonies, a strong indie rock base, and a healthy dose of psychedelic experimentation, Grizzly Bear have become the accessible arthouse torchbearers of millennials who rock. At their live shows, they effuse beautifully dissonant melodies anchored by sharp instrumentation, topping it all off with stunning visuals. As they contemplate a follow-up to 2013's Shields, Grizzly Bear will leave it all on stage for fans at select 2014 tour dates, which include several solo appearances by band member Daniel Rossen.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Originally a solo project for frontman Ed Droste in the early '00s, Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear slowly grew into a full band of proportionately talented performers. They started to make serious critical waves with their first release as a full-quartet, 2006's Yellow House, landing on the Top 10 year-end lists of several major media outlets. Their major break came, however, in 2008 when their tourmates Radiohead dubbed them their favorite band at the time — a huge endorsement by an even huger band. This public recommendation propelled their next album, 2008's Veckatimest, into the indie-rock stratosphere, making the band a household name among the dorm-room set. The band has since released another record and continues to tour relentlessly.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

I cannot believe how good they are...

The concert was amazing. Compare to The Doors or Pink Floyd. Amazing show, stunning lights and incredible music. Has nothing to do with what is on the album, though. Unbelievable, must see for yourself. The venue is pretty trashy though and the sound was bad some times especially with the supporting act. The trashy ambiance however kind of fit to the surrealistic show.

Excellent concert by Grizzly Bear. Wonderful, creative, engaging songs. Performed with passion. Nice variety of tempos and moods. Great light show, too.

    Brilliant show by brilliant band

by RockstarGFOMG on 9/20/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I made a last minute decision to go to this show, and I went by myself. I must say, i prefer hanging out with my friends, but, in this case, it was totally worth going to the show independently. Grizzly Bear is one of my all time favorite bands, and they played many tunes from their latest release "Shields". We were so fortunate to be able to celebrate this release with the band in Nashville. I would love to see them again. My seats were incredible, and I was 4 rows away from the stage.

    Visceral Experience

by KaylaAnne on 9/20/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Grizzly Bear live is everything you could hope for and more. I brought my 3 children with me to the show - ranging from 6 years old to 11 years old - and they had a wonderful time singing along to their favorite Grizzly Bear songs. Their lantern stage set was beautiful, and the band was superb.

The lights alone were amazing, but add the awesome sounds of Grizzly Bear, and you have a winning concert! Memorable!

Made my heart into a mountain

    by sandman722 on 9/20/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Overall an amazing show. The opening band (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) whom I usually like, sounded really bad, I suspect it was a poor set up and the acoustics of the venue didn't really fit their sound. Grizzly Bear sounded amazing though, the vocals, the varied instruments (sax, keyboard, clarinet, guitar, bass, synths, flute, etc) made for some unique live sounds and their new material is awesome! The light show was also amazing. There were these strange jellyfish things on ropes that had adjustable lights in them that were moving through the air behind the band and pulsing with light in time with the music. Lots of strobes and flood lights also added to the excitement. They even played a special acoustic version of one of their songs from Vecketamist (Foreground maybe) because the venue is built for acoustic instruments, which also sounded amazing.

    Good Show

by Lumnum on 9/20/12ryman - nashville

Really enjoyed the show, great sound/ special effects...Was annoyed that one of the singers wanted us to get up and dance since its not really jamming music. The guy that plays 50 instruments was super cool. The audience was full of hipster/ flannel/ skinny jean guys which had me yearning for the coffee they usually serve to me. Not the best show I have ever seen but still worth the night out. Unknown Mortal orch was hard to listen to. The sound was jacked up on the instuments, poor on the vocals and way too loud all around- I think I even winced once. 1st time I've ever heard the Ryman sound bad.

by JPiznerkins on 6/7/12Lollopalooza - Chicago

I liked this band a lot when I listed to their records, but seeing them live raised the bar to the absolute top for me. I highly recommend going to see them; it will improve your future experience of listening to their recorded stuff.

GB are way better live than on CD

by Anonymous on 8/14/10The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

Grizzly Bear's show was almost perfect. Their sound on Veckatimest doesn't compare to their live show. There were a few times when the bass was unbearable during the show but, all in all, it was a good show. I would definitely recommend anyone to see them.

The band was incredible live, adding unexpected textures to already complex layers of music. The Beach @ Gov. Isl. was a perfect venue: intimate yet open with spectacular views of lower Manhattan skyline.

    Terrible!

by Anonymous on 8/13/10The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

Grizzly Bear weren't so bad (not so great live either) but the gig was a wash-out. The evening was scheduled to start at 8pm, and you'd think the main band would be on by 9, or 9:30 at the latest, but no, Grizzly Bear only showed up at 10:30. By which point we were soaked from an hour of steady rain. The rest of Governor's Island isn't open on a Thursday, so you're basically stuck in the concert area and sandpit -- I think a lot of people got fed up because when we went back early, less than half way through the Grizzly Bear set, the ferry was packed with people!
