    Great Concert Event!

by Grinder11 on 9/16/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Overall, this is a great event! It's impossible to buy a bad seat because the outdoor venue, which holds about 5000 max, is really intimate. In 2018, most of the bands were really good. Queensryche, Tesla, Winger, Lynch Mob and Eric Martin's band were really memorable. Some of the support acts gave forgettable performances, but for the most part, the sound was great and the bands were good. I highly recommend you eat before you come. Food choices were very minimal and crappy...boiled hot dogs or crappy small 6" pizzas done in a pizza oven (tasted like crappy frozen pizza) were the only entrée choices. $2 popcorn was nice, but no burgers or anything. I was told they didn't even have a grill! Very poor planning as far as food. When people are there from roughly 4pm to midnight, they are going to want to eat. Grand Casino Hinkley really missed out on a lot of revenue with poor food planning. Drinks were pretty good, but the beer choices were limited to one source...Budweiser products and what the local distributor could provide. This is typical, but a bummer if you don't like their products (I prefer Miller brands, myself). The Captain Morgan Iced Tea and Stoli Lemonade was awesome. Beer and the aforementioned drinks were $7 each...a little steep, but they were 16 ounces. My wife and I will probably attend again as long as the bands are good.

1 out of 3 ain't bad, is it?

by OracleRdbDBA on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Third year in a row for bad food, poor beer choices, but good rock & roll... One of these days the Grand Casino Hinckley folks have got to get their act together.... Here's a few suggestions: 1.) Allow beer or liquor bought at the casino to be brought into the concert, DUH. 2.) Serve liquor and a wider selection of beer at the concert. 3.) Get better food for the amphitheater, every year we have to blow off seeing a couple of bands to walk back to the Casino to eat dinner because the food is so awful at the concert. Heck even just adding some decent tasting chicken fingers and hamburgers would be a step in the right direction.

I liked all the bands that I seen Friday and Saturday. Except for Dokken and Tesla they left me disappointed to say the least.other than that all the other bands were amazing.

    Rocktember ROCKS!!!!!!!!

by catparker5 on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

This event rocks like no other! What have I been waiting for all these years I have lived up here? The acts were amazing, things happened I could never even dreamed of. I met rockers that were beyond down to earth great guys. I made friends for a lifetime and had the time of my life. There were some issues with the venue staff being on point w/ knowledge about things going on around them, i.e. VIP meet & greet when they were holding the envelopes, ticket sales, etc. As if they did not care to do anymore than expected. Very disorganized and not ran well at all. I heard complaints from the bands also and this is very disheartening. I know this is a casino, but if you are going to put on a show, this is a business, treat it as such and do a damn good job at it. There was one employee I can say is the best and he worked his ass off John Thompson. Give that man a raise 100x over. He was amazing!

Grand Rocktember Has Highs and Lows

by willsnake on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Grand Rocktember's sixth year switched to three days for the first time, which seemed to be a mistake. Thursday attendance was very low, and Friday and Saturday were better but seemingly less than past years. Disappointed that Y & T had to cancel Thursday; Great White filled in and although original singer Jack Russell's version of the band is still my favorite they were solid. Skid Row also lacks original vocalist Sebastian Bach but they played a good, heavy set. Friday lost Ratt from original lineup. Kix was great and unlike most here they have most of their original lineup. Winger was kind of sloppy but alright. I've never gotten into Stryper--I guess they were ok. Scrap Metal is always fun if a little disjointed. The big Friday news was Dokken playing an unannounced headliner set with George Lynch. It was cool to see them together but Don Dokken's voice is so bad now it's embarassing. Saturday's last two bands were probably the best/tightest of the weekend, headliner Tesla and Queensryche. Sad to see Queensryche down to 2 original members, but replacement vocalist Todd LaTorre is the real deal. He was outstanding. Lynch Mob seemed very unrehearsed, and they hung their singer out to dry by changing the setlist and apparently not telling him. Two or three times he announced a song and then was told "No, we're skipping that one." Very unprofessional. Autograph was boring... I've been to every one of the Grand Rocktember shows. It seems to have lost some steam, and I think some jacking up of ticket prices and the three-day plan hurt attendance. Hope it keeps going and love the band choices for the most part.

Chris Hawkeye was the best performance

by StacyLB on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Rocketember needs to step it up with the bands next year! Jackyl should come back and be a headliner!! Chris Hawkeye was the best performance and he isn't even rock, but he put on a fabulous show!

    Stryper was awesome

by LarryNormanFan on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Stryper was awesome! They played a great mix of their old hits that I love and their new heavier songs that my son loves. We were both thrilled. Michael Sweet can still hit the high notes and Robert Sweet plays the drums with tons of energy and abandon. When you consider they were playing without band mate Oz Fox who is battling a health crisis right now it was truly an amazing night.

    WORST Line-up EVER!!!!!!!!

by KingRocker on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

I've attended this event every year (6 years total). This was BY FAR the worst line-up ever! The only good acts all 3 days were Chris Hawkey and Scrap Metal. As far as I'm concerned there were NO Headline acts ALL 3 DAYS! They keep getting the SAME washed-up acts year-after-year and none of them have the same members. Great white SUCKS without Jack Russell and Skid Row SUCKS without Sebastian Bach. Docken was one of my favorite bands in the 80's - the band sounded GREAT but the original lead singer was TERRIBLE (you couldn't hear or understand him). They would be better off getting cover bands like Hairball and Arch Allies with 1 HEADLINE Band each night. The attendance will continue to dwindle if they don't change! IT'S NOT TOO LATE! Headline suggestions - Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey, White Snake, Foreigner Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rat, Poison, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Scorpians, George Thorogood, Cynderella, Loverboy, Billy Squire, Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Heart, Iron Maiden, Ted Nugent, Steve Miller Band, ZZTop, Boston

    Awesome 3-day event!

by Singleandcheaterfree on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

This was our first time to Rocktember. The weather was beautiful so couldn't complain about that. We tent camped and it was close to the stage so that was a bonus. Most of the bands sounded AWESOME! I was impressed with pretty much all of them. We made the effort to catch them all except Chris Hawkeye and Autograph, so I can't say how good/bad they were. Thursday's line up was all kick-ass and they did kick-ass! Friday's bands were all exceptional too except the (Bonus?) Dokken. Sucked. Sucked bad. Gotta give the rest of Dokken credit, though....George Lynch is phenomenal. Saturday's line-up was great too. I was very disappointed in Tesla. NOT IMPRESSED. Jeff Keith looked like he was tweaking the whole show. I was more disappointed cuz I was ready to finish the night with some great jammin Tesla tunes (Mechanical Resonance) and they ended up doing a lot of acoustic songs. I left after the 3rd acoustic to pee wondering if/when the music was going to pick up. It never really did. So my review: Vain - Awesome! Eric Martin - Excellent (Nice to have a Trixter song to end the show), Great White - Awesome, Skid Row - AWESOME! They rocked for sure! Kix - Great show! Lots of fun to watch. Winger - excellent!, Stryper - EXCELLENT! They sounded incredible! Scrap Metal - that was a treat! I was elated to see Mark Slaughter up there!!! He is looking good! And to have a couple of Boston guys too - that was super cool. Then there was Dokken..... Hericane Alice - Awesome! Tuff - Super cool! They were a fun band to see! Lynch Mob - Excellent! Queensryche - EXCELLENT - they sounded GREAT! Was never much of a Queensryche fan, but I gotta say they put on a good show! And then Tesla. Ya - the Headliner...... That was a disappointment. The only other complaint I had about Rocktember was the fact that we had to pay for showers. I've never been camping where you had to pay for showers....that is normally included in the price of camping, so I thought that was kind of bullshit. Overall it was good. We will likely go back (depending on the line-up) and at least know what to expect for next year.

    Rocktember

by Ahlman on 9/10/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Excellent weather....good bands. Was really hoping for at least 2 or 3 more "Big Name" bands...like Firehouse, Ratt, or Tom Keifer.....ended up with really 2-3 quality bands per day. Queensryche was hands down the best!!! DOKKEN NEEDS TO RETIRE....Absolutely the worst I've ever heard. I love coming here, lots of commodes, everything in order, food and booze easy to buy, and a nice venue.

    Some Amazing Music

by Vengeance on 9/9/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

Skid Row was the headliner Thursday they put ona great show. Friday was by far the best night in my opinion, Scrap Metal played for a while and then left the stage for The almighty Dokken featuring George Lynch. What an iconic night to see Don Dokken and George Lynch together on stage. Lynch did not hold back and showed us why he is one of the best in the business. Saturday George Lynch did it again with Lynch Mob, simply awesome. Queensrÿche was up next and should have headlined the night, but we only got about an hour of them to make way for Tesla. Tesla played well but Jeff’s voice is tired. Unfortunately he did not sound very good, but their overall performance was good playing all of their hits.

Please make queensryche the headliner next year. Please do not bring back Tesla. Not impressed with them at all.

    Disappointed

by RockerChic5 on 9/9/18Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater - Hinckley

I have enjoyed this event in the past...The biggest disappointment this year was the royal mess with the changes made. The cost of the three Day pit ticket was highway robbery. Go back to selling single day tickets. Go back to a two day event and bring the cost down. It felt like the three days was to water it down to increase the money spent there. The band lineup was too weak for a three day event. I am not coming back if they keep the same arrangement for next year.
