Born in Waitsfield, VT, Grace Potter grew up in a family that encouraged her artistic pursuits in areas from music to theater, the latter of which she was studying at St. Lawrence University when drummer Matt Burr heard her singing at an open-mike night in 2002 and asked if she would form a band with him. She declined, but when her high-school friend and bass player Courtright Beard enrolled in their college, she reconsidered the invitation, and the three of them began to write and perform jazz-influenced songs, Potter also taking duties on the Hammond B-3. Soon, guitarist Scott Tournet joined, and the bandmembers, calling themselves Grace Potter & the Nocturnals -- thanks to their late-night practice habits -- began to think seriously about making music their careers. When Burr graduated in 2003, they decided to move back to Vermont to some land that Potter's parents owned and dedicate themselves more fully to their craft, replacing Beard (who chose to stay at school) with Bryan Dondero in the process. In 2004 they self-released their debut, Original Soul, receiving positive response and comparisons to artists like Norah Jones and early Bonnie Raitt. This in turn garnered major-label offers, but the band preferred to build its fan base by constant touring and festival appearances. Word of their electric performance spread, and shortly after their second album, Nothing But the Water -- also self-released -- came out in 2005, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals signed to Hollywood Records, with their third full-length, This Is Somewhere, hitting shelves nationwide in August 2007. In 2010, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals was released; Hollywood pulled out all the stops in order to break the band internationally. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi
Solid, high energy show and Grace sounded amazing.
This was the smallest venue on Grace Potters tour and they rocked the house! The whole place was dancing and singing with her! I canāt imagine having a better time!
I planned a weekend trip from Utah to Orlando just to see her at the House of Blues. It was definitely worth it. Grace was amazing. I've never seen someone sing so long and loud as she did without ever sounding like they were straining to hit the notes by the end of the show. She just kept getting better the longer the show went on. It was awesome.
One of our favorite venues. Great entry, always feel the proper security is in place. The employees are all fantastic, bartenders actually have something to say and pour a great cocktail! The acoustics and light show are above average for a venue this size. Great stage height! Grace came out with authority...she pranced onto the stage and you could feel her need to entertain us....and that she did! She engaged the audience from her first hello and thru the entire show. She maintained an uncompromising communication with the band and the audience. I have seen her many times....this is the best I have witnessed. Her confidence and control of the crowd was second to none. Grace is a great musician, great entertainer and all around hottie! AND i mean that in the kindest way....she rocks, then softly speaks, then kicks it up again! Thank you for a great show....Culture Room and Grace Potter!
The venue was good. We had seats rather than standing in General Admission. I love Grace Potter's music but was a bit disappointed by the concert. For one, the stage was so dark we could hardly see the performers. Also there was too much talking by the performer. I would have preferred to just hear their music. The drummer was great and was the highlight of the evening.
The concert was ok. Way too much talking and screaming to the audience. It would have been much better if she just sang the whole time. The opening band/ singer had a fantastic voice.
It was supposed to be a 7:00 p.m. concert. House of Blues only allowed us to begin entering at 7:00 p.m. Grace did not take the stage until 9:00 p.m. in a venue where there are no chairs we had to stand for nearly 4 hours. Grace did her thing and the concert was superb. Will certainly go see her again whenever she comes to town, unless perhaps it's at this venue. At my age (59) it was a lot of standing for very little reason.
The music over powered her voice lots of screaming very disappointing
The Best thing about the show was the House of Blues staff was Great in Orlandoā¦ Super cool and helpful. As for Grace, the set was Very Uneven. She told too many long stories. Seems like Success has gone to her head.. Saw her 5 times with the Nocturnals and Always Delivered. The Sum of the parts ..š
I have never seen Grace Potter before and wow she was amazing!! Brittany Spencer that opened for her is definitely someone to be watching! They both had such terrific energy! My brother and I just had the best time! Thanks for having some awesome performers!!!
A typical Grace Potter concert. Wild, hot uninhibited, funny, sensual, good songs, and good music. Super stage show. Grace is the hottest woman rocker around, at the Fillmore she wore a micro-mini skirt, black nylons, and a push-up blouse-tank top showing an excellent proportion of her bust line. What a fantastic-looking woman. Excellent time was had by all: and I think Ms. Potter is having the most fun of all.
I have seen Grace Potter 3 times and she doesn't disappoint! She is a great rocker, love her music! Refreshing to see this woman putting out this level of rock music!
Great show, high energy and played for over 2 hrs.
Grace Potter was AMAZING š¤© She absolutely rocked this show. So much energy. I will definitely see her again when she comes back!!!
Grace Potter always has been and still is an excellent live performer. She has a strong band and a great setlist, with a broad range of songs from her current album through those performed with the Nocturnals. Get to the show if you have the chance!
Graceās performance at The Anthem was incredible! It was an intimate experience as she connected with the audience through quips between songs about the time in her life when she wrote them, and then performed with strong vocals and true emotion. Sheās exceptional live!
This was an excellent show. I liked the new material and the show had the usual older songs. Nice cover of "White Rabbit". I last saw Grace Potter in 2019 and missed the September Pier 17 show due to bad weather. Glad she made it back to New Jersey.
I've never been disappointed in a Grace Potter show! This show was amazing - a little more of a production than straight up concert and I was there for it. Grace is unapologetically herself and that is magic. Grace's voice, the way she plays her instruments and her joy all pour into you - listening to and watching her makes me smile wide and jump up and down and forget my cares and feel unadulterated joy! Thanks for another fantastic evening, Grace!
Grace Potter is one of the best musicians touring today. The reason that she isnāt playing sold out stadiums is beyond me. Sheās funny and energetic and has such a powerful voice. Her new band is funky fantastic. Sheāll have you eating out of the palm of her hand the entire show. Every single song is a hit. Sheās my favorite act to see live (since the first show I saw in 2012) and Iāll see her again and again.
This was an excellent show from start to finish! She took her fans on a magical musical journey with songs from her new album "Mother Road"to classics from her days with The Nocturnals. I loved every minute!!
