About

Gov’t Mule stormed the jam band scene in 1994 with a bluesy blend of Southern rock. Guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody originally formed the band as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band. Gov’t Mule's music is defined by its noodling blues-rock jams and Parliament-funk freak-outs. The band’s concerts and tours bring to mind legendary 1960s acts like Cream, Grateful Dead, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Little Feat. Gov’t Mule have been a staple on the summer festival scene since their inception, entertaining college kids and older hippies alike. The mid-1990s represented the height of the jam band circuit, but while other contemporary bands faded away, Gov’t Mule kept on trucking. For the past two decades, Gov’t Mule has been entertaining ticket buyers with good old-fashioned Southern rock and roll, with songs and set lists that seem to rise, swell and go on for hours. Today, Gov’t Mule are one of the last pillars of the jam band scene.

In 2013, Gov’t Mule released the double-album, Shout!, their first LP in four years. Gov’t Mule is always trying to do new things and push the creative envelope, and Shout!'s first disc is entirely new material, while the second disc is comprised of cover versions of the first album's tracks, featuring collaborations with high-profile musicians like Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, Dave Matthews and Steve Winwood. Gov’t Mule has released nine studio albums and several live discs. The band scored its highest chart release with 2006's High & Mighty, which peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. Indie Chart. Gov’t Mule is currently in the midst of the Time to Shout Tour, and fans know the band will be jamming long into 2014 and beyond.

    Too much electric guitar!!

by Sherri on 2/28/24Bayou Music Center - Houston

I cringed at the electric guitar solos. Like a loud boy band that didn’t know when to stop. They would start to get into a groove with the talented keyboardist/horn player then the elec guitar would take over and ruin the whole thing. We left at intermission (very disappointed). Would never see them again

Loved the performance, little too many lights

by Bj on 2/28/24Bayou Music Center - Houston

Venue had great seats, enjoyed the music but felt that light show was a little over the top. Made me dizzy at some points and blinded me at others. Distracted from show.

by Dottie Otter on 2/28/24Bayou Music Center - Houston

Government Mule - Warren Haynes always are a great band. My husband and I counted and between him solo, with Government Mule and with the Allman Brothers we've probably seen him more than anyone.

by Mare on 2/28/24Bayou Music Center - Houston

When my Husband wanted me to get tickets for this Concert I thought We were going to a heavy metal concert. I've never heard of Gov't Mule before, but when they started playing I was "OMGOODNESS I REALLY LIKE THESE GUY'S". The music wasn't what I expected and it filled my soul with a beat that moves you. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole Concert. I would definitely go see them again.

    Mixed Feelings

by Phnxbyrd on 2/28/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

20 bucks to park in a garage where the elevator didn't work. Also, for 20 bucks you shouldn't have to park at your own risk, there should be security. The Venue itself was ok. Seats were too close together and the sound was just ok. The band was great.

Great concert. Only complaint is it was so difficult to hear the actual words of the singer. Unbelievable acoustics tho'.

    Gov't Mule: Recommended

by Command Interest on 2/25/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

The band played two sets. The musicianship was professional. Hit the excellent mark on most of the tunes. Audience got on their feet and boogied along most of the show. Sound was off on a few numbers. Seemed like two or three numbers fell flat, or musicians got lost. Really tight and excellent groove though throughout the show.

Wish we had enjoyed this concert.

by Jul on 2/25/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

We love Warren Haynes, but the sound mixing was such that his voice was barely heard. We missed hearing some of our favorite songs and wished they had started with more familiar tunes. I also didn’t enjoy having ultra bright lights hitting me in the eyes. I always appreciate lighting effects, but not these. This was a one and done for us.

Bad sound mix and late start

by Hans on 2/24/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

I was seated right of centre facing the stage. Right from the start it was clear that the amplifier was in overload and the mid frequencies were too dominant leading to an undiscernable mishmash of sounds bordering the sensation of noise. The keyboards were almost not audible. I ended up leaving after 4 songs. It was simply unbearable

    Ok, but…

by Sridev on 2/24/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

The sound was not very good. Lyrics were pretty much indecipherable, the drums and base were too forward, and the volume overall was too loud. Earplugs were required even though we were sitting in row P, near the middle of the auditorium. The need to use earplugs, further compromised the sound. I suspect that the sound system was designed for a much larger venue.

The Mule is Still Kicking after 30 Years!

by JB on 2/24/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

The recent Gov’t Mule show in ABQ kicked out all of the jams… with the addition of a new bass player they seemed tighter than ever. Playing numerous songs from their most current album they viscously rocked the enthusiast and age appropriate audience! The sound and lighting were nothing short of superb! The appreciative audience was attentive to the very end. Here’s to another 30 years!

    Sad about the set list

by Babs on 2/24/24Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

The band is excellent! Warren Haynes' voice is still superb and STRONG! I was so looking forward to Soulshine. :'( It felt more "metal"than I expected or enjoyed. I think those sets would have been better suited for an outside venue. The setlist from the night before in Tucson was so much better. I think there were a lot of disappointed Dead Heads....me included. (I KNOW, they are not the GD, but that type of flowing jam music was what I was expecting). I appreciate them mixing it up with each venue, but that being said, I don't know that I would pay to see them again.
