Underwhelming
by WookieeWill on 10/25/22Amway Center - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5Demon Days was my first album ever, the Gorillaz was the first band I ever actively sought out the music for. I heard tales of how incredible their concerts were and so that dream made it to my bucket list. This past weekend I crossed that off.
I found the whole concert underwhelming, the music was spot on, but the 45 minutes of nothing between the opening band (Jungle) and The Gorillaz taking the stage has never happened to me before at a concert. When they finally began performing the bass levels seemed way off and were eventually corrected after about five songs.
For a band whose claim to fame was being a virtual band I expected to see more of their iconic characters. Maybe a quick animation to open or close the show, but the only appearance they made was on the screen behind the band playing the same music videos that were aired on MTV when I was a young man.
The guest stars didn't make an appearance till they all did for the encore songs at the end, I feel they should have been sprinkled in throughout the show, but I can understand if they were trying to end on a high note. Speaking of, some of the songs from Song Machine they performed heavily feature artists that weren't present like Momentary Bliss, so they just let the track audio play...
I still love the music, but they are not a band I can recommend seeing live.
