Always refreshing to see a Godspell production...

by Whitneymarie on 11/11/13Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

This was a professional company, so we expected a higher quality production. This seems on the caliber of a very good college production, but not the level of professional. There were some good voices, but some not able to carry the volume needed. Also the voices were not consistent, they had some good parts, and some bad parts. The choreography and the dancing were very good. The performers looked like they were putting their all into it, but they haven't reached the ensemble effect yet.

Godspell is timeless; well worth the ticket price!

by nape on 11/11/13Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

Great show. I loved the references to current culture. I was in Godspell on Cape Cod for summer theatre back in the 70's, so this show was a blast down memory lane for me. This rendition stayed true to the original. Yet, I enjoyed the addition of cellphones in Tower of Babel and rap later in the show! The crucifixtion still brought tears to my eyes (and my husband, who saw the show for the first time!)

    Rock n' Gospel

by Nozy on 11/11/13Tilles Center Concert Hall - Greenvale

Great talented cast in this updated (pop culture reference) rock classic. A bit preachy at the end, first half a lot more fun but it is tough to mix fun with the death of Jesus. Every cast member has their chance at shining and they do.

    Godspell was awesome!

by AtriumOnTheOcean on 11/10/13Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

My friends and I attended the show and had an amazing time. The show's arrangement was put to modern day times and included a lot of jokes that were relevant to today. It was different than other Godspell musicals we've seen. They even included audience participation at three different times. It really drew us in and made the audience part of the show which was really enjoyable. All the cast was outstanding. We didn't want it to end!

The play godspell was great. Music and voices closely replicated the origional. It's just a shame how Springfield can't support the arts better. Maybe better advertising and promotion would help.

    Godspell

by Judi2653 on 11/10/13Springfield Symphony Hall - Springfield

.Such great music, energy and fun! The cast was amazing, bouncing around the stage and interacting with each other in a way that made them seem like a close family. Didn't love the new music, but all the contemporary references were fun - Pictionary and charades. The dancing was great, including hip-hop and gangnam style. A great evening.

    Original score was far better

by Nancy19 on 10/30/13Shubert Theater - New Haven

We found act 1 to be pure insanity. It was comical at times yet completely spastic. Original songs lost meaning and impact. Talented performers but clearly not broadway-ready The changes to storyline in an attempt to attract younger audience was a complete miss. At times too juvenile --- other times, long and drawn out. The 3 children sitting behind me were bored. Unfortunately, current day references cheapened integrity of play. Act 2 was redeeming Far more in line with original score and much more enjoyable.

    Godspell

by Vizion on 10/30/13Shubert Theater - New Haven

I saw Godspell when it came out on Broadway back in the 70's. Being a new Christian, it meant a lot to me. For my 60th birthday, I told my husband this is what I wanted to see to celebrate! It was updated appropriately, though I don't remember Judas being forgiven in the original! That was the only part in the show that I would suggest changing back to the accurate record of him committing suicide. The whole ensemble were amazing singers and actors.

    Godspell was fabulous!

by Barb2013 on 10/30/13Shubert Theater - New Haven

Saw Godspell 40 years ago -- loved it then, loved it even more this time. Loved the "modern" adaptations! Characters were very real, funny, and moving all at the same time. Voices were outstanding!

    Awesome

by Raffaelo on 10/30/13Shubert Theater - New Haven

It was awesome. My wife and I saw and heard the parables (Jesus teachings) come to life. It gave me an uplifted spiritual feeling of being closer to God (Jesus). I did not go to a show. It was an experience. The set was great. The backdrop was the tree of life with ladders all around it.

We liked the musical very much. Loved the updated jokes and musical additions. The opening was a bit confusing, but it was fine once John the Baptist showed up.
