Maxine Nightingale was the hit of the night. I felt that Gloria Gaynor had lost her energy. But...I felt that Mahaffey did a great job for the evening. I would definitely come back again! It was also nice that the workers of the Mahaffey asked us to come down from the balcony, since there was plenty of room.

    New Years Disco Eve Concert

by DiscoDreamin on 1/2/12The Mahaffey - St Petersburg

It was a blast from my most favorite past!! The best artist of the night was definitely Maxine Nightingale!!! She sounded the same as she did 30 years ago! The audience came to hear the songs of our disco era and she delivered it just the way it sounded and was 30 years ago!!! Sister Sledge started out off key on the original disco songs and sang the new songs and let the band play individually, but this is not what we came to hear. Gloria Gaynor sang mostly new songs and duets, which we did not want to hear. We wanted to hear back in the day disco songs all night! So, Maxine won the best performance of the night!! When she was onstage the house were all out of their chairs dancing!!!

    All singers were amazing!

Great show. Good music. Good pre-party. Perhaps next year could encourage people to attend in "70s" outfits. That could be even more fun and entertaining.

by DiscoEraLover on 1/2/12The Mahaffey - St Petersburg

Maxine Nightingale started the show & it was just perfect. She sang songs I had forgotten about but LOVE. Sister Sledge was wonderful! I wish they would have sung "He's so Shy" but they were great! Loved Gloria Gaynor-FABULOUS!

    New Year's Disco Eve:

by nevermindmyname on 1/2/12The Mahaffey - St Petersburg

We had a great time on New Years Eve... The event was well worth going to... The only issue was with the on stage talent... Maxine Nightingale was great... She should have been your featured act... Gaynor and Sledge were old and boring... I will return next year if the entertainment is stepped up...

New years disco eve with Gloria gaynor -

by MiloTex on 1/2/12The Mahaffey - St Petersburg

Maxine nightingale and Gloria gaynor was great. They had the crowd on their feet and really enjoying the night. Their voices were strong and the band was great. However, sister sledge almost killed the event by their song choices. Almost everyone was falling asleep and wondering " what the heck is going on here". They were the act in between Maxine and Gloria. If they do this next year, the line up must be different. Get K.C and the sunshine band in. Thank you Maxine and Gloria. You saved the night!!!

Disco Dancing in downtown St Pete!!

by Lorimac on 1/2/12The Mahaffey - St Petersburg

Awesome! Fun! Super well organized! We stayed at the Hilton which made access to the venue super easy. The most exciting perfomer was Maxine! She was dynamic and a perfect way to start the show. She got the crowd enthused and most people standing and dancing and singing. The sisters....not so much. Too much time spent letting each band member do their thing...not enough well known 70's songs....alot of the audience members left the theater at that point. Gloria was good....she wll survive. She was cool. My suggestion is that the organizers and performers stay with 70's disco music. There was plenty of it. Seeing the fireworks was a perfect punctuation to the evening.

    New Year's Disco Eve

by TomFL on 1/2/12The Mahaffey - St Petersburg

What an awesome time!!! Maxine Nightingale really got the night pumped up and started. She had everyone dancing in the aisles!!! If getting on stage and dancing with Sister Sledge "He's the Greatest Dancer" qualifies as a good time then I had it!! Gloria Gaynor rocked the evening by having everyone sing along to "I will survive" to close the show. It was a fantastic evening!!

Gloria Gaynor, The Other Disco Queen

by RaelSandoval on 11/15/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I have never seen Ms.Gaynor perform prior to this event. Of course being in my late 40's, I was familiar with all of her recordings, especially the disco classics. Ms. Gaynor is a class act, she is poised, elegant and she was looking quite stunning. She certainly has aged nicely like a fine wine. Her voice, as with most of the others of that period, is a little deeper, but definately recognizable as her own. She performed some of her outstanding hits such as 'Never Can Say Goodbye', "I Am What I Am' and of course closed with "I Will Survive'. She also did a nice rendition of "The Way We Were' and a nice uptempo bluesy version of 'Every Breath You Take', among others. Her background singers were funny, charming and great, as were the band members. Miss Gaynor, while I don't consider a concert stadium/hall type of single performer (let's say like Donna Summer), this was the perfect type of setting for her show...warm and intimate. The place was packed and therefore uncomfortable seating and moving around, that would be the only negative about the evening.

    I WILL SURVIVE was outrageous.

by Satinstar on 6/27/11NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

The Village People were good...........okay, but I think they sang too many tunes. We were waiting and waiting for Gloria. I wonder how many were original Village People. We all really went to see Gloria. She was stupendous and personable. The band was very very good with especially fantastic talent on the sax and trumpet.

Gloria and the Village People -- fantastic show

    by BC17603 on 1/20/11Keswick Theatre - Glenside

This was a fantastic show -- which started right on time -- in an equally charming venue (The Keswick Theater) in an equally charming town (Glenside, Pa.). The Village People warmed up the crowd and kept them on their feet for Gloria Gaynor, who dazzled my ears with an even better voice than 30 years ago. She truly is an amazing singer. I enjoyed how she gave her backup singers (truly amazing vocalists in their own rite) a chance to show off their skills. Thank you for an amazingly entertaining evening!
