About

GLEN HANSARD IN CONCERT:

Singer-songwriter Glen Hansard has dabbled in many musical projects throughout his career, but he's finally stepping out on his own as a solo artist for a slew of 2014 tour dates. Since his early days as the lead singer of The Frames, Hansard has become a major influence in the Dublin rock scene with his impeccable songwriting and folk spirit. In performance, the Irishman delights audiences with his calm demeanor, gritty vocal style, and beat-up Takamine acoustic guitar, which he's dubbed "The Horse."  Whether he's covering a Bob Marley tune or passionately singing his hit "Falling Slowly," Glen Hansard's compelling performances will have fans on the edge of their seat at his 2014 shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

At 13, Glen Hansard left school to devote time to busking on the streets of Dublin and eventually earned his salt in 1990 when he formed the Frames, gaining a cult following with a string of critically acclaimed albums. Sixteen years later he formed The Swell Season with Czech singer Marketa Irglova, earning widespread success with  romantic ballad "Falling Slowly." He's also had an illustrious career as an actor, playing the role of a musician in the films Once and The Commitments, but has always returned to his first love: music. Glen Hansard graces the stage once more to share his passion for performance on his 2014 tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"This was hands down the best show I"ve ever been to! He was amazing!!!"

"This was my first time seeing Glen and will definitely not be my last. Glen left it all on the stage; he held us spellbound!"

    Concert of my life!

by Gloria Nak on 9/27/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Glen Hansard is not only a world class musician and wonderful raconteur, he is the embodiment of what an entertainer should be. One minute you are having a beautiful intimate moment with the handsome singer song writer and the next your insides are rumbling to the thunder of a rock God. I loved hearing the stories behind and the inspiration for his songs. He shared with the crowd things about his family and close friends. If felt like we were all just hanging out. He is truly a stellar human. The encore with his friend Eddie Vedder and the delightful rendition of Song of Good Hope and a beautiful Irish blessing were the cherries on top. Thank you Glen, I adore you. Also thank you to the Moore and their wonderful staff.

    A little Irish charmer

by Libso on 9/27/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Moore theater a little ragged, but show was good, Glen has a great connection with the audience and a great story teller. Would have loved to hear a few more Irish tunes, but Eddie Vedder coming onstage for the encore - what a treat!!! Reach for the clouds Glen!!

    Amazing!

by TanRan on 9/27/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

As always, Glen’s performance was powerful, gentle, heartfelt and mind blowing! He is one of the most talented musicians I have seen live and it is a privilege to be in the same room as him as he shares his passion! Most amazing part was getting to experience him and Eddie Vedder together on the stage. A spectacular surprise that was heartfelt and genuine and one that I will never forget!

    Magical night

by Seattlechops on 9/27/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Glen is such an incredible performer. The emotion and power that his voice conveys is truly unique. The entire night was a rollercoaster - goosebumps, smiles, laughs and tears - repeated over and over. One of the best shows I have seen in a long time (and I go to 40+ shows a year). And of course having an encore with an emotional Eddie Vedder doesn't hurt...

    Great Show!!

by TennesseeJed on 9/27/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

This was the third time I've seen him and after each have been amazed how great it was. A great blend of old and new material. Just under 3 hours with no break. The band is very tight and the show polished. Eddie Vedder showed up and played two songs and that was the cherry on top.

    Extraordinary

by jick on 9/27/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

The venue itself was a perfect fit for Glen Hansard- warm and intimate and such good energy from the crowd. Glen’s performance was the best I’ve seen- so much passion in every song. Eddie Vedder joined Glen for two songs during the encore which of course made our experience more memorable.

    Great show as usual

by JN on 9/11/19The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I’ve seen Glen Hansard in a couple different venues and he never disappoints. And the Chicago theatre is a great spot to take in a show. He played continuously for well over two hours even though he was clearly under the weather (and subsequently had to cancel the next few shows on the tour). A phenomenal guitar player, singer and songwriter that loves to tell stories and interact with the audience. And always a great backing band. Well worth the price of admission as usual.

Outstanding music & sound with some tiny annoyances

by J. on 9/9/19The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Glen Hansard and his band are outstanding and worth the trouble of going downtown Chicago. He is an amazing performer!! When the music got loud it still had a clean sound. However, when he talked to the audience I had trouble understanding him. What he said must have been funny because everyone was laughing at some of his comments. There were lots of people drinking which required climbing over standing people and walking around and blocking our view. This got old after awhile. However, the audience as a whole was appreciative and polite.

    Transcendent

by Rose Joan on 6/29/19Beacon Theatre - New York

First, we got lucky because even though it was a sold out show I guess some people couldn’t make it so the seats right in front of us and the ones on each side of us were empty. We were not that close to the stage, but for a place not really built for rock, the sound was incredible. The sound engineer guy was definitely on point. The lighting was so-so. Glen Hansard is ALWAYS amazing, and I forgot where I was partway through the show and couldn’t believe it when it was over. The opener Junior Brother had a cool folksy sound and fit Glen’s roots. This was my fourth time seeing a concert by Glen and it’s never exactly the same; every performance is fresh and real and alive. Irish neo-folk rock has its master in Glen Hansard. His voice is raw without being weak and he’s not a stage hog at all. The people he invited up onstage were great, as was the band. He’s excellent with stories and the crowd, but doesn’t turn a musical event into a speech. He never forgets to dedicate Falling Slowly to Marketa Irglova. Subtracting time from the opener, setup, etc., Glen himself gave a solid two and a half hour performance. WOW. I wish he played NY more often, but I guess I’m spoiled enough as I see him every year. Beacon Theatre is cool and has seating, but the acoustics are better for rock at Brooklyn Steel. Never pass up a Glen Hansard show if you’re into raw and powerful vocals, epic guitar skills, and music with an honesty that burns itself into your brain.

    Pure Energy & Emotion

by heyganz on 6/4/19Beacon Theatre - New York

Glen never, ever, disappoints in his live shows. He brings the emotion and full on energy to every show I've seen. His 6/1/19 show at the Beacon Theatre was incredible. He mixed in some new material, classics, and even the Frames. He sang without a mic from atop speakers and wandered into the audience, balancing on seat backs. You can see some great pics on his Instagram. I just have to say that I am grateful he splits time between Ireland and NYC so we can see this artist perform more often. Sláinte

    Amazing show!

by Nancy on 6/4/19Beacon Theatre - New York

It was my 8th time seeing Glen Hansard and as always, he never disappoints!! His energy and charisma just filled the room! The venue, Beacon Theater, is a definite favorite. Was a bit apprehensive about his new album songs but he did a brilliant job on each one, so now he’s got me listening in true fan fashion! An excellent show from start to finish!!!

    great show

by M. on 6/4/19Beacon Theatre - New York

The beacon theater is our favorite place to see a concert. We have been here many times. It has that great architecture and great sight lines too no matter where you sit. Also you take the LIRR to Penn and it is a short trip up the one line (two or three stops) and bam you are there at the venue. Hansard gave terrific show June 1, 2019. He was jumping around the stage and belted out his songs.

    Music for the soul

    by M. O. on 6/4/19Beacon Theatre - New York

Glen Hansard is truly gifted...he breathes the spirit of music. And the musicians he pulls together to play with...fantastic. The show was AMAZING, and the venue is my favorite in all of NY. Perfection.

    Phenomenal

by C. on 6/4/19Beacon Theatre - New York

Glen was a different performer, just as new songs are such a departure from his previous ones. This made the concert such an exhilarating experience.

    TOO LOUD!

by JohnnyBoy on 6/4/19Beacon Theatre - New York

I have seen Glen Hansard three times now and the first two shows, one in the State Theater in Ann Arbor, MI and the second, at NYC's Carnegie Hall. Both nights were beyond incredible and are firmly etched in my mind forever as perhaps the most glorious and exciting musical experiences of my life. I was thus disappointed with Glen's concert this past weekend at the Beacon Theater in NYC because his band was so painfully loud that my ears actually hurt; hearing him sing under those conditions was nigh impossible, let alone understanding his words. He also used technology at times for changing how his voice sounded and the effect was not for the better. I must say, though, when his band was at high volume watching him hop and gyrate around on stage with the energy of a tornado was an incredible sight to behold. I hope he was wearing protective ear plugs! When Glen sang by himself or with soft vocal and/or musical accompaniments I was very happy. His guest performers were all terrific and very special too. Now I know how Bob Dylan's original folkie fans felt when he went electric! I applaud Glen for branching out and trying new ways of expressing himself through song and music. An artist must always keep exploring and experimenting if he/she is to remain vibrant, exuberant and fresh. I must say the crowd at the Beacon went crazy bananas over everything he and his band performed that night. I myself am a senior citizen who does not find pleasure, value or meaning in hearing music so loud that all I can notice is that my ears are hurting and my brain functioning has become paralyzed by the blast of noise and intense vibrations. I myself will thus have to think twice about getting a ticket the next time Glen comes to town.

    11th Glen Hansard show

by Patrick on 6/3/19Orpheum Theatre - Boston

Glen Hansard is hands down one of the best musicians and performers that I’ve ever seen. I’ve been to 11 of his shows and at each one he didn’t hold anything back. Two days after this concert I saw him a 12th time at the Beacon theater in New York and my opinion of him and his band hasn’t changed. If you ever find yourself with the opportunity to see him live, do it! It’ll be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.
