The music was great. If I had any complaint it would be that they spent a little too much time doing funny, impromptu songs to take up time while tuning instruments. This is funny once or twice at most, but not throughout the evening. There were many songs I would have loved to have heard that they never got to.
Girlyman, and opening act Lucy Wainwright Roche, were not only skilled, professional singers and musicians, but were also very humorous and highly entertaining. Their engagement with the audience is magical, tender, playful, harmonious, easy, and funny. All are profoundly adept at playing stringed instruments and intertwining phenomenal harmonies and lyrics to convey their heartfelt memories, personal stories and earthy emotions. The new drummer for Girlyman, JJ, is a great addition to the band. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity when they are playing in your town! Also, the Ann Arbor Ark folks are fantastic in their usual way...keep on truckin'.....
girlyman, once again, put on a phenomenal show! so much talent among these 3 musicians...and po' girl was a fantastic addition to their sound! check ur area to see if they are coming to a venue near u!
Po Girl was more than impressive with their mix of instruments and soulful lyrics. You can really feel the music when they are performing. I hope the Birchmere invites them back as the main act! I'll be first in line for tickets!
The music was gorgeous as usual and they put on such a great show-- intimate, funny, rockin' They're so worth seeing live.
I am a huge Girlyman fan and have seen almost every show that they have done in the DC area in the past 3 years. This was not their best effort. They had colds, were off key, did not play many of their best songs and were not as good as PO Girl. In fact I bought PO Girl's CD rather than their new one. They need to stop playing so many 'tuning' songs, and play more real songs. I brought a friend who had never gone and he was also disappointed in Girlyman, but LOVED Po Girl.
