    Meh

    by S on 6/4/19Neptune Theatre - Seattle

So the experience was super weird. I’ve enjoyed their podcast over the last year, and seeing them live made me realize a few things. 1) they’re best when they don’t have an audience. Ashley can’t handle heckling and caused the show to be super uncomfortable. She passive-aggressively mentioned it a few times throughout the show not to call out, except the show also asked for audience participation? Very confusing. Then at one point she straight up aggressively called out the heckler and completely brought the mood down in the house. It was SO cringe worthy and awkward, my friend and I almost left. Super unprofessional on Ashley’s part if she wants to be taken seriously as a “comic” or whatever the hell she thinks she’s doing. Tip: don’t criticize your crowd. 2) their shoe works when they’re interviewing guests. Their new episode comes out every Monday, so I’m listening after the show on Saturday I was enjoying the podcast way better than the live show. I realize - it’s the guests. They interview real professional comedians who have an interesting voice and are actually funny. The guests are the best part of the podcast, and what was missing from the live show. About 25% of the material from the live show was actually entertaining and made me laugh. Otherwise it was “meh”. 3) they need a topic to talk about. Each of the podcast episodes has a clear, defined topic which they talk about. Perfect, keeps the conversation flowing and brings up interesting points. The show was a cluster. Super disorganized and random, not in a good way. It was confusing and chaotic. It was really disappointing. Anyway, I give them credit for having the bravery to try to take the podcast on tour, but it didn’t translate. Ashley said they have a “no filming” policy of the live shows to please respect - my thinking is because she wants to see good ticket sales and if people online actually saw what they were going to get they wouldn’t sell any. If I knew what I was getting I wouldn’t have purchased my tickets.
