    Iron & Wine was Sublime

by Hopie on 7/13/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

Because I'm so fair and it was so hot and sunny, I thought It would be best to wait until the later part of the day to drive to Marymoor for No Depression, even if it meant I wouldn't get the best view of the stage. As the day went on, I immedately regretted that decision because I thought, "oh, now parking will be terrible, it'll be so crowded and we'll never see the stage." I was so wrong. Top HIghlights: 1. We left at 5:30 and traffic wasn't that bad. We got to Marymoor earlier than expected 2. Parking was so easy and simple, and only cost 5$. Endless field for parking. 3. The sun had ducked behind clouds, so it cooled off tremendously by the time we got there. 4. The setting was very intimate, which we weren't expecting at all 5. Although we had waited, we sat relatively close to the stage

Everyone at this show was incredible!

by Reen on 7/13/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

First of all, Marymoor is an amazing venue to see a show- not a bad seat in the house. I was shocked that the show wasn't more packed, especially with such an incredible line up. The day was hot and beatiful, and the music was sensational. I also found some new bands to follow- Iron and Wine is supreme and Gillian was amazing!

Being spontaneous can pay off you know

by Burnt on 7/13/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

They couldn't have picked a better day. It was beautiful. The crowd was good- if not a bit subdued... defineitely not sold out or raucus... I took a nap during one set. The highlights were definitely Iron and Wine and Gillian Welch (w/ David Rawlings... you can't have one without the other)... A couple downers... the food was over priced - probably to pay for the fact that KC Parks had to pay all those folks to sort through the already labeled Trash/Compost/Recycle bins... I mean come on folks - we're in the Pacific Northwest... you don't throw plastic in the compost bin... And the biggest downer? The fact that the organizers touted this is an like clockwork event... everything went off without a hitch - including cutting off an iminent encore from Iron and Wine! He was returning to the stage - halfway up the stairs when they cut him off... I would have rather gone home 30 min later and seen him - than spend the rest of the weekend wondering what his last song or two might have been... Thanks guys.

Iron & Wine and Gillian were amazing!

by SJacobs on 7/13/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

The music was awesome! If you ever get a chance to see either/both of these folks, you must do it! Awesome stage presence and crowd interaction. Had a great time! The venue was great as well. Beer is kinda expensive but you can bring your own food and there isn't a bad seat in the house!

    Absolutely Superb

by LiberalTwang on 7/13/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

Unbelievable lineup; unbelievable weather; I couldn't have imagined it any better. As much as I mourn the loss of the No Depression magazine, this was a brilliant way to carry on the legacy. I will be there next year.

Iron & Wine was the best

by Idaho25 on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

I was really excited to see Iron and Wine, and thought it was the best performance, although I enjoyed the performances during the day as well. I thought Gillian Welch was fairly good, but kind of a buzz kill after Iron and Wine. We left after several songs of hers, but perhaps it was just a long day.

Seeing Sam Beam play was a dream come true..!

by Kokaneelover on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

The venue was great .. lots of great atmosphere... I went to see Iron and Wine for the most part but was surprised at how good the other acts were... Sam Beam and his music is how I keep from going insane sometimes and to see and hear him live was moving... in a word... moving...

    No Depression Festival

by omeomii on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

Jesse Sykes, Sam Beam(Iron and Wine) and Gillian Welch were FABULOUS! The venue was absolutely the BEST!! ALso really liked Earl however the other bands not so much with the exception of David Mayfield's playing his sister could work on range and diversity tooo repetitive. Overall one of my top ten mostly relating to the venue.

Great folk rock day in the sun!

by naenae007 on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

The No Depression festival caught my attention because the legendary Iron and Wine was set to play, this alone was worth the money. What I didn't expect was to enjoy, as much a s i did, the rest of the performances during the day. Each and every band was amazing. Each somehow surpassing the previous. The eclectic vibe was relaxing and the company great. With a comfortable ambiance similar to the big festivals like Sasquatch at the Gorge amphitheater, the sun was welcomed by all and everyone was happy just relaxing in the grass with fellow music lovers.

    Gillian Welch is amazing.

by sculptor451 on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

I showed up to see Gillian Welch at 8:45pm. Due to a scheduling conflict, I wasn't able to see the earlier bands, but my main reason for buying a ticket was to hear Gillian and David sing. They were both amazing. Her voice is so strong, the harmony so great. And the girl can tell a story! So relaxed on stage. Just the two of them filled the night with great music. No need for anything more than their voices and guitars. I would love to see her again. I hope she comes back soon to Seattle, but if not, I will be traveling to hear her sing again.

Great alt-country in a beautiful setting

by FerrousOxide on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

Marymoor park is beautiful, the perfect setting for alt-country performances, with a view of the forest through the stage and the high trees surrounding the grassy seating area. Even at Marymoor nine hours seemed like too much alt-country to me, but I came at 5 for Jesse Sykes, Iron & Wine, and Gillian Welch. They were well worth the ticket price alone. It would always be possible to leave the festival to walk around Marymoor for a break too. The Screwtopians were terrible and painfully over-amplified, but at least they made Sam Beam's set stand out even more by contrast.

    THE IS WAS AMAZING

by SammyZoomZOOM on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

I had so much fun at the event! Its outside so you can sit where ever you want , and the people are so relaxed. For your favorite artist you can go up right next to the stage. I went for Iron and Wine ( Sam Beam) and he was beyond phenomenal!!! I didn't want his set to end! The show case of local artists was really good and the main one's were just the best of the crop. I had fun watching everyone's act. The event was really well planned and I most definitely am going back next year. My only advice would be bring a blanket or a chair to sit on,sunscreen and lots of water! and pack some food because the food is a bit pricey at the event, but that's to be expected at any event. GO TO THIS EVENT!

    Good, but Pricey!

by twangette on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

I had a really good time and particularly enjoyed Gillian Welch, Jessica Lea Mayfield and the local set. At $60, though, it's the second most expensive concert / single-day festival I've ever been to. Phew!

    A well-run festival with a killer lineup.

by danteknave on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

The festival was much smaller than I expected, but I guess that's what happens when the event is run in the name of a defunct magazine. I wasn't there for the entire day, I arrived about halfway into Jessica Lee Mayfield's set (who was amazing), and though I thought Justin Townes Earle had a charming presence and some fun tunes, his set was ultimately forgettable. Jesse Sykes is SO much better with the Sweet Hereafter (I saw her earlier in the week without her band), and I even got to chat for a second with Phil Wandscher (her guitarist) about his gear. Patterson Hood and the Screwtopians were very tight and played well, but the sound engineer doubled the volume for their set, to the point of needing to improvise some earplugs out of toilet paper. (You would think at an outdoor music festival some vendor would sell earplugs, but 'fraid not.) Sam Beam was surprisingly fun, mixing his dark soulful songs with silly banter about how unprepared he was. And, of course, Ms. Welch and Mr. Rawlings were superb. Funny how the quietest act all day turned out to be the headliners. But their energy and performance blew everybody else out of the water, and they ended it all with an encore of "Jackson" impersonating Johnny and June Carter Cash, and then a huge sing-along of "I'll Fly Away" that seemed to take even them aback.

    Gillian Welch changed my lfie

by Rodi on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

This was by far the best concert I have ever been to. While the truth was, I was really only there to see three of the bands, I have to say, the other bands were pretty awesome as well. Zee Avi was amazing, as was Jesse Townes Earl, and the other guy (who I can't remember). Now, down to the meat and potatoes. Patterson Hood of the Drive By Truckers was outstanding. I loved his music before, but this just added a whole new dimension to it. Sam Beam of Iron and Wine also performed, and while his set was shorter than I would have liked to see, it was nothing less then amazing. Absolutely stunning. I would go again to only see Sam Beam again any day. Now, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Both beautiful musicians with loads of talent. The way that they played together and reacted to each other was simply amazing. I mean, the music that these to make brings tears to my eyes because it is so good. I loved every minute of it. Definitely am going to go next year

    No Depression Festival/Gillian Welch

by ocelot on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

Gillian Welch was fantastic, but her set was too short for the 8 hour wait. The early bands, including all the the Revue were great, but the middle bands were loud, the wrong genre, and an ordeal. Iron & Wine was good but monotonous: a beautiful voice but the cadence of all his songs is almost identical.

    Amazing

by TrevorG on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

Everything was amazing, except that local musicians were not given enough time on stage. Also Iron & Wine is overrated.

    No depression was not depressing!

by OutsideTheBox on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

The No Depression tour wouldn't be for eveyrone, but for those with a tolerance for singer/songerwriter/folk, it was a very good experience. Marymoor park was made for this kind of mellow, soulful music.

    No Depression Festival

by iggyperu on 7/12/09Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

This was an AWSOME event - not a single disappointment in the entire line-up!! REALLY hope they do this every year. Justin Townes Earle was magnificent, and Star Anna was unbelievable.
