About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

    Reba was awesome as usual

by Rebafan2 on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

The stage in the round gave the whole arena a chance to see their favorite artist up close and personal. I was pleasantly surprised at Leann Womack's performance and even thougb I'm not a big George Strait I thought his performace was unusually high energy.

Reba put on a fantastic show. I was a little disappointed with George, I would have liked to have heard more of his hit songs.

by mynewbeginning on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

I bought these tickets for my husband for his birthday. He absolutely loves George Strait. For me, the concert was ok. But I am not really much into George Strait. On the other hand, my husband loved it. He had a great time. Thanks for making his night so much fun!

It was by far the best concert I have ever been to. I am able to cross seeing Reba McEntire live of my bucket list. Plus, to have Lee Ann Womack and Geroge Strait on top of it was perfect!

    Reba was solid, George was...

by Chadrick on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

Reba's set by far would have held a better place as the headliner for the event. With at least a costume change and a bit it of pomp as well as a hilarious appearance by Melissa Peterman this made my ticket price well worth it and had the excitement that I thought should have closed out the night. George walked around the stage changing corners every two songs. I'm also really not sure why he held a guitar since he only played a few chords here and there. I'm assuming it was somehow to help him feel more comfortable about standing in one spot not really doing much interaction. And I'll be honest with you, I think he may have had a face lift or a chemical peel. LoL All around a better evening than I had expected but that was entirely because of Reba's performance. Listening to George for two hours and then sitting through an encore was pretty tough. Worth the money, but George owes me two hours of my life I can never get back. His ability to connect with a crowd is pretty lacking.

    Awesome!!! Great show!

by trutwo on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

This show was definitely worth the ticket price. We arrived late because of traffic, so we missed LeeAnn Womack, but that didn't really bother me and apparently she only performed about 30 minutes anyway. Reba was next and boy she was AMAZING! This was the first time I had seen her live, and let me tell you, CD's, TV, and radio cannot do this woman's voice justice. She raised the roof with her voice! The best part of her show was the encore, which was Fancy. They played the beginning of the video on the giant screen, then Reba came out in a taxi wearing a long red dress. It was cool! Oh, also Barbara Jean from her show Reba was there and came out on stage for a song and some comedy, and she was hilarious! George came out about 20-30 minutes later, opened with Twang, and rocked it!!! I love every single song George sang, so I can't pick a favorite, but Texas and The Chair were highlights. The only thing that dissappointed me was that George's encore was 2-3 of his lesser known songs, like El Ray, I wish he had closed with "I Cross My Heart" (which he didn't even sing) or one of his other signature songs. Overall I love George and Reba, these two are country music legends and are the real deal, and the concert was a memorable one.

    Reba Rocks!

by boxer2 on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

Lee Ann Womack was good. Reba was FANTASTIC. She entertains you 110% of the time. Melissa Pererman is hilarious. These 2 performances were well worth the price of the ticket. George was kind of lame. I love his songs but I could have gotten the same effect listening to a cd. Even his band and backup singers weren't into the performance very much. I would not go see him again.

    Classic Show with Classic Performances!

by HHFARMS on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

Excellant, excellant, excellant. Nice to see the mixture of new releases with the classics that we all love! Its not a wonder why Lee Ann Womack, Reba McEntire & George Strait are legends in their own time. The show was non-stop entertainment and they didn't cheat their fans! Played a large set of music and I definately got my money's worth!

    George Strait and Reba

by GS40Timer on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

Exceptional. George's voice was strong, the sound was clear and crisp, and George made great choices in selecting the music considering he has so much to choose from. George shined by being himself. All he really needed to do was swagger onto the stage, smile and belt out the beautiful hits. Having seen George many times in the past, this was by far one of his best concerts. He seemed very comfortable and to be enjoying himself interacting with the audience. Reba demonstrated she is a versatile entertainer by including LeAnn Womack in her show and featuring a comedy bit with former TV co-star Melissa Peterman (Barbara Jean). What a hoot!

    audience

by honestreviewer1 on 2/19/10Scottrade Center - St Louis

The performers were great. They had George's music up a little too loud so it was hard to hear him at times. But overall it was wonderful. The thing that annoyed me was here I paid $100. per seat ( a total of $400.) and the girl next to us stood the whole time and swayed back and forth and her ass was in my sister's face the entire time. And not only that..she screamed and screamed at every song any performer sang so not only did my sister have this girl's ass in her face she was deaf in that ear by the time we left. Overall making my sister's time there miserable. I do not begrudge anyone of a good time but people need to be considerate of the people around them. I am sure the people behind her were annoyed also because they could not see around her. There should be policies in place that people can not stand during the whole song as a courtesy to the other patrons that paid to see the concert. I can see standing for a brief moment to just let the performer know that the song is welcomed and enjoyable but not stand the entire time.
