About

George Lopez's illustrious and multi-faceted career encompasses television, film, stand-up comedy, and late-night television. Lopez has broken ground for Latino comics by embracing his ethnicity, confronting racial stereotypes, and fighting for his community on and off the stage.

Lopez stars in his multi-camera comedy series for NBC, Lopez vs Lopez, featuring his real-life daughter, Mayan Lopez. The family sitcom, which has been renewed for its second season, follows George and Mayan in a fictionalized version of their real-life father-daughter relationship, exploring dysfunction, reconnection, and all the pain and joy in between.

Lopez can be seen in Snoop Dogg's Amazon MGM sports comedy, The Underdoggs, and in the independent holiday comedy How the Gringo Stole Christmas, directed by Angel Gracia. Lopez joined the DC Extended Universe last summer, starring in the Warner Bros. Latin superhero film, Blue Beetle. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto and featuring a predominantly Latino cast, the film follows its first ever Mexican American teenager turned superhero.

Lopez will release the third installment of his middle-grade novel series, Chupacarter and the Screaming Sombrero in March. He is currently performing stand-up in arenas across the country on his ALLLRIIIIGHHTTT! Comedy Tour.

Lopez has four HBO specials: The Wall (2017), It's Not Me, It's You (2012), Tall, Dark and Chicano (2009), which was nominated for a Best Comedy Album Grammy Award, and America's Mexican (2007). His acclaimed comedy concert, Why You Crying?, debuted on Showtime in 2004. He released his third stand-up CD, El Mas Chingon, in 2006, earning another Grammy nomination. In 2004, he was nominated for his first Grammy in the same category for Team Leader.

On television, Lopez produced and starred in Lopez, a semi-autobiographical single camera sitcom for two seasons on TV Land. The series explored his struggle between two worlds and the crises that are often of his own making.   In 2014, Lopez co-created and starred in the multi-camera ensemble comedy Saint George for FX.  He hosted TBS' inaugural late night talk show, Lopez Tonight, for two seasons, marking Lopez's return to series television after co-creating, writing, producing and starring in Warner Bros. Television's groundbreaking hit sitcom George Lopez, which ran for six seasons on ABC. The show remains a hit with viewers on both broadcast stations and cable TV's Nick at Nite, ranking as one of the top-rated shows on the network.

Lopez's extensive film credits include Walking with Herb opposite Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, IFC Films' modern-day Western No Man's Land, The Tax Collector with Shia LaBeouf, El Chicano alongside Raúl Castillo, Aimee Garcia and Emilio Rivera, the romantic comedy box-office hit Valentine's Day, The Spy Next Door with Jackie Chan, and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. He starred in and produced the inspirational drama, Spare Parts, based on a true story about four undocumented Mexican American teens who team up to build a robot for a national competition.  An icon and advocate for Latino representation, Lopez was the focus of the award-winning documentary Brown is the New Green: George Lopez and the American Dream, as he struggles to stand for Latinos in a manner true to their realities and aspirations.

Lopez has lent his voice to a string of animated blockbuster films including Gnome Alone, Escape from Planet Earth, as well as the Rio, Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and Cats & Dogs franchises.

In May 2004, Lopez's autobiography, Why You Crying?, entered The New York Times Bestseller Top 20 List. The book was co-written by Emmy-winning writer and sportscaster Armen Keteyian. Lopez released his second memoir in 2013, I'm Not Gonna Lie And Other Lies You Tell When You Turn 50, in which he shares the unabashed and hilarious truth about aging - as only he can.

In 2005, Time named him one of the 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America and the Harris Poll named him one of the Top Ten Favorite Television Personalities. The following year, Lopez received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Comedy was good for George and the first comedian. The band was fun and entertaining.

  • Can't get passed the hecklers

by jadenver on 7/14/09Ellie Caulkins Opera House - DenverRating: 2 out of 5

Have seen George a few times before, but his shows are getting stale. He is a funny guy & tells funny stories about his hispanic upbringing compared to the rest of the world. But when he brags that he came from nothing & that he has a TV show and that he's getting a new talk show all the time it becomes boring. Ya we know you are successful, stop reminding everyone about it. The worst thing is when the heckling starts ... I think the venues need to do a better job of kicking hecklers out of the show ... but George really seems to lose it when people yell stuff at him. At the last show I was at, George was bragging about how he did alot of campaign work for our new President Obama. People in the audience started booing him & he went off on a tangent about how the hecklers were morons & how they couldn't afford to sit closer up front & how they are losers. He also always threatens to leave (in one of the shows I went to several years ago he actually walked off stage within a few minutes of starting the show ... $70 tickets down the drain). I will continue to watch his TV shows ... and probably listen to his audio CDs/DVDs, but I won't be going to any of his shows again.

  • Extremely Rude and Innappropriate

by TheSolutionNetwork on 7/14/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I am always proud when I see someone of my own nationality rise above, and go big. But I was embarrassed for my own race when I went to see this show. I cannot even count how many people walked out of the show. Mexican or White, or Asian, they were all getting up and walking out. This man needs a reality check. He is not here to make the Mexican race rise above the rest, we are all supposed to get along on this planet.

  • george lopez thinks all whites are trash

by joeydog on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5

I am white and a single mother who adopted two Latinas while I was single. I thought what a treat to take my grown daughters to see George Lopez. We watched in my home on TV. I tried teaching my children about prejudice against them and my self. I know that there can be a lower attitude against Mexicans and other Latinos, besides Blacks and Asians. I cannot put myself in Mr. Lopez's shoes, since I did not experience his and his family's treatment and ignorance. It was interesting to watch the other whites in the audiance as the show continued and how the whites did not laugh as much to Mr. Lopez's own ignorance on how we had enjoyed him. and how he was very bitter towards whites. I thinks also some of his sexual jokes continued from his anger. He will not care if I don't come to any of his shows or if any whites don't show up. He should, only to teach other Latinos, especially Latin men, to respect the people that repond to them in a niece way. I watched some of the Latino men in the audience who seemed to raise up to strike down whites. It is scary to see how we teach are children.

He can be funny at times but I was extremely surprised about how 'in to himself' that he is. He is definately not a gracious performer or entertainer. I wish I would have spent the money and went to see Larry the Cable Guy.

by memag on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Jokes have been repeated at every show every year. George does not need to announce how much money he makes in a year. Although he is funny to see.

  • Worst Event I Have Ever Attended

    by Jenee1 on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I have seen many comedians both in large and small venues and this was the worst one yet. I don't mind bad language, or off color humor, but this was horrible. The jokes degraded women and all ethnicities to a degree that it lost its humor. I don't think Mr. Lopez understood his audience (race, age, or gender). Not many people were laughing. I have never written a review on any event I have attended, or product I have purchased until this. I can honestly say that I did not laugh even once. I attended with four other people and we strongly considered leaving about 2/3 through. I feel sorry for the up and coming comedian that opened for him. He was very funny and I would pay to see him again, but will never support anything George Lopez does in the future. Do not waste your money, I wish I could get mine back.

  • I know huh!

by mamachavez on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

George was excellent, we laughed the whole night! We can't remeber the comedian before him but he has a bright future! We can't wait to see them both again! Thank you George for coming to Portland!

  • He was vulgar, angry and racist

by squeaker on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

My wife and I are fans of the George Lopez show on TV and were excited to see him do his stand up. Another comedian came out first who was quite good and did 30-45 minutes. Finally George Lopez came out and performed to a largely Latino audience for 1 hour and ten minutes. He appeared still angry about his youth when times were tough. He blatantly and straight forward told the audience he did not like white people who are rude and "rednecks'. i don't either but that set the tone for the rest of his act. The majority of his act revolved around sex and farting. I came close to asking my wife if she wanted to leave and she told me she wished I had asked her as she wanted to leave also. most of the people around me which included a lot of Latinos did not seem to be laughing at his redundant sick sexual commentary and jokes. He was promoting Latino machismo all through his routine.

Saw him last year, pretty much same routine as then and as you see on his tv comedy special, still a funny guy, but would have liked new content

  • too political

by Danes on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

Although the show some funny lines, the show turned to political and became a sales pitch for a new talk show. I found the show to very boring.

by fairyqueen on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

I would have had enjoyed the show more if his routine had not been so racist. Several people sitting where I was got up and left the show before it was even half over.

  • George Lopez live

    by Deacon75 on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Let me first say that I am a big fan of the Mexican! here comes the "but" he was alittle over the top with the militant 'I hate white people" stuff. I understand he was playing to his core audiance but he was having fun taking shots at everybody else. Then when it came to whitey it just got nasty. While earlier in the day he was playing golf at a near by Country Club with some member that was you guessed it.....

  • Funny, but...

by PandPandB on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

It was funny up to the point where George voiced his anger against white people. Also, we were put of by him talking more than once about how much money he makes and how rich he is. The audience already knows that he makes truck loads of money. But other than that it was a great and very funny show.

  • George Lopez dissapointing waste of money

    by songla7 on 7/13/09Keller Auditorium - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

Mr. Lopez show was a complete dissapointment. He was not even funny, but plain BORING. He used most of his time to make racist remarks, talk about masturbation, brag and promote himself and his new tv show. It was insulting to all non-hispanic people in the audience. Pleas note I AM also hispanic but did not find any of his remarks amuzing or funny. I spent close to $400.00 on this show. I wish I could have my money back.
