CARRIAGEWORKS PRESENTS
GANESH VERSUS THE THIRD REICH
BACK TO BACK THEATRE

Back to Back Theatre’s internationally acclaimed work Ganesh Versus the Third Reich comes to Carriageworks for its Sydney debut. This uncompromising production follows the story of Hindu god Ganesh traveling through Nazi Germany to reclaim the swastika, an ancient Hindu symbol. The depiction of Ganesh’s journey is interwoven with a second narrative: the actors themselves facing the responsibility of performing a play on this subject. As the group battle under the leadership of an overbearing director, the actors question their own ethics. Ganesh Versus the Third Reich invites the audience to consider who has the ‘right’ to create art from history’s darkest chapters. Back to Back Theatre creates new forms of contemporary theatre imagined from the minds of a unique ensemble of actors, giving voice to social and political issues that speak to all people. Ganesh Versus the Third Reich has won numerous awards including the 2012 Helpmann for Best Play.
