Music , Art, Food, Concert Bazaar

by IcedCoffeeSugar on 7/29/14The Tabernacle - Atlanta

This was my first time to the event, however I saw the movie prior to deciding to go. It was really like a bazaar. On the bottom level they had vendors of food, music, t shirts, art work, posters, information about other events African drummers and dancers. Upstairs around the stage were Visual artists at work painting, there was a photographer with his prints ... all items were also available for sale. There were some other kinds of vendors like heath food stores and alternative energy, even auto sales. Upstairs there was an interactive art room, house music room, spoken word area with lounge seating.. bars on all levels.. It was really a great event.. very interesting. My only compliant would be that the event started at 8:00pm on the ticket but the actual band did not start until 11:45pm. They had great musicians and a signer by by 1;00am I was tired and left.. I know they had a lot of other musicians after.. but it would have been nice if they started a little earlier. Other than that it was a wonderful even.. I will definitely plan to go to the next one!

Last year was great. This year tho...

    by John568 on 7/29/14The Tabernacle - Atlanta

Simply put, the event Saturday didn't seem like a celebration of 20 years. My first year was 2013 and it was so great that I invited friends this year. I and they felt bamboozled by the lack of climax. There wasn't a headliner. The acts that did perform were lacking the energy of celebration. It was not worth my $37. I brought five friends. I feel like I owe them money or a favor now.

Funk Jazz Ain't Funky No More

    by Teedub74 on 7/16/13The Tabernacle - Atlanta

I had such high hopes for this event, especially since it had been 6 years since the last time it was here in Atlanta. The line-up wasn't impressive at all (4 unknown artists)and the star of the evening, Big Boi from Outkast, did 2 songs & was done. The straw that broke the camel's back was that Jason, founder of FJK, announced that they were giving the band a break, leading the audience to believe that there was more to come, when only 20 minutes after the DJ was playing, folks started taking music equipment down & removing it from the stage. Such a disappointment. So glad I purchased tickets in advance online because if I would have paid full price the day of the event, I would have been HOTTTTT!!!!!! Because of this experience, I do not plan on returning 2 another FJK event.
