    Nothing Gold Can Stay...

    by HollowGoldAndrew on 5/9/17F. M. Kirby Center - Wilkes-Barre

The show gave the crowd what they wanted, but only on a superficial level. It seemed that no artist really performed much of their catalog. I know the doo wop groups have a smaller selection and often had only a few songs of note. Gary U.S. Bonds seemed to have a decent length set, but was still less than 10 songs long (from back when songs were strictly business). I must admit I was a little disappointed by Freddy Cannon. He went out, and had the energy for the performance. He tried his best to get the humdrums out of the Northern Pennsylvania crowd, but they were marginally receptive at best. I had no issues with that. The main problem is he performed five songs (two of which were covers, and not even of the Freddy Cannon golden era variety) and was out. As someone who enjoys a large part of his catalog, it was a bit bummed especially having driven over 3 hours to attend. Maybe it was because the crowd wasn't into it. At least give me "If You Were a Rock n Roll Record"! The venue was fine, though the audio quality from my close up seats seemed to be poorly mixed. It may have been a case of being behind the PA, but not close enough to the stage sound or monitors.
