About

Early in 2013, Fred Hammond released "United Tenors," an album wherein the gospel giant recruited three of his peers – Brian Courtney Wilson, Dave Hollister, and Eric Robertson -- to help him deliver his brand of fresh, funky gospel to adoring fans. The album features the same vocal theatrics the multi-talented Hammond displays at his live concerts. Fred Hammond has an opera singer's poise, a funkmaster's soul, a gospel singer's faith, and a showman's love for his audience. Not one wrong note comes out of Hammond's mouth, not one missed beat or misstep. He is a singer's singer, able to rouse a concert hall like a revival preacher with the power of his voice. Each performance is a tour-de-force. For his audience, a Fred Hammond show is a ticket to paradise.

"United Tenors" demonstrates Hammond's ability to imbue every song with a power all its own. From the first track, "Unshakeable," it's clear that Hammond is in control. The song is funky and tight and sets the tone for the entire album. Gospel is given a new face here with elements of hip-hop, sampling, scratching and other throwback styles enlivening the mix. Hammond and friends may have invented a new style of gospel altogether.

When Fred Hammond started his first group, Commissioned, back in the '80s, the young producer and singer carved out a niche for himself as a major force in the industry. A singer since the age of 12, nothing could keep the dynamic Hammond down when he took off on a solo career with 1991's "I Am Persuaded," an album that reached No. 11 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums. From there, Hammond established his firm place in the world of contemporary black music. "God, Love & Romance," released in 2012, reached No. 1 and for good reason. In songs like "Face It All," Hammond fuses the love song with gospel praise so perfectly that the match seems made in heaven.

    Concert

by Li on 5/14/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

It was a nice show. It started on time, which was a place. I wish Fred hammond had more time on stage. The sound went out at times, but they quickly recovered. The seating was my only issue. To close and not a lot of leg room.

    Fred Hammond

by ETSM on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

Disappointed that Fred Hammond was not the main act. Usually, the main act is last. Why Mann was last, I do not understand; I feel like we were short-changed.

    Great potential / terrible execution

by Bummed301 on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

The headliner was not as advertised! Fred Hammond, the sole purpose for our attendance, didn’t perform. He teased the audience with a couple of vocals for several songs, but never sang one entire song. Made the audience participate more than he sang. The audio visual equipment was the biggest issue. Microphones kept glitching and the voices/lyrics were impossible to make out during the performance. The poor MC (a great actor and singer in his own right) was forced to buy time awkwardly between almost every act. A complete waste of money and four hours. Our family will never attend this venue again.

    Fred Hammond show

by GARFIELD on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

The show was really good. My family and I really loved it. It was a mother's day gift to my wifee..she was shocked., I didn't give her full details as to who all was performing. Just wanted to be a surprise to her. Each artist was good, but we really enjoyed Fred Hammond and Tamaron too- she was good. In my own preference tho, I would've made Fred Hammond the closer tho. Crowd really loved him the most. Overall....very nice gospel concert.

    Headline Not Accurate - Disappointing

by Bennetta on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

Fred Hammond was supposed to be the headliner of this show. Instead they cut his time short and Tamala Mann was the headliner of this show. Don't get me wrong, I love Tamala Mann as well, however, the ticket sales stated this was a Fred Hammond show and the fans were disappointed. They did a lot of taking in between, which they could have left out, the gentleman from Kenya, all together.

    Lack of consideration

by Veebee on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

I brought seats to make sure that no one stood up in front of me. The people in the box seats stood up almost the entire concert and videotaped concert. Which blocked the whole entire stage. We heard the music but did not see the performance. Can the ushers ask people to sit down. We paid good money also.

    False advertisement

by Leo Keya on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

My daughter got me tickets to what I thought was a Fred Hammond concert for mothers's day. He obviously was NOT the headliner. His set was so short. The man has been singing for over 30 years, I don't understand why more than 1 other person was booked with him and his performance wasn't longer. I traveled 2 hours and must admit, I'm disappointed.

    Attendance was overwhelming!

by Wonnie on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

Thank you all for thinking enough of us to come to DC in putting on a Mother's Day concert for us. The band was a bit-loud to the point where the back-up signers had to strain to be heard. When you get-up in age like that it can become hard on your legs. Umm, I know. (73 years old) However, all-n-all it was a great concert. What do you have plan for the Father's Day at Constitution Hall. There are many nice male singers out there. ;o) Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Jonathan McReynolds, Travis Green, Donnie McClarkin, & BeBe Winans. Thanks

    To be honest...

by Angie on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

Let me begin by saying that I love Fred Hammond and I will continue to purchase tickets to see him perform. BUT it appears that now that he's an OG, he doesn't feel like he really needs to work hard for the money. He let his background singers do most of the work, that is, when he didn't have the audience doing it. I didn't come for a sing-along, I came to hear him sing. He pulled the okey doke, saying that he thought he had more time than he actually did. Yeah, okay. I did enjoy him sharing his testimony. Tamela worked hard for the money. No complaints. Charles Jenkins really put on a show! He was phenomenal. Jason Nelson did okay. No complaints. David Mann was hilarious, as usual.

    I wanted more.

by zzmom on 5/13/24DAR Constitution Hall - Washington

I had a great time, don't get me wrong. I just wanted more, from Fred Hammond, who is my all time favorite. I get he was not the headliner. The show ran a little long, so people had to leave because of their cars being in garages. However, all in all it was a good show and great group of artists put together.
