About

Following the release of the much-acclaimed EP Who We Are in 2013, alternative rock group Flyleaf announced its intention to return with a full-length album in 2014. The sheer energy and haunting lyricism of the album echoed qualities of past Flyleaf tours, in which the band fused a unique melodic element with a hard rock feel. Flyleaf’s energetic presence on stage is contagious with guitarists Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya dancing as they strum. The release of Who We Are marked the first major achievements since the step-down of original lead vocalist Lacey Sturm. Immediately following Sturm's departure, new female vocalist Kristen May impressed with her stunning voice and obvious passion, qualities essential in assisting the entire band in the lead-up to its first Kristen May-focused album and associated tour.
Flyleaf began as Passerby, a collaboration between Lacey Sturm and James Culpepper. After joining forces with Sameer Bhattacharya and Jared Hartmann, the group performed in concerts throughout Texas, eliciting the majority of their ticket purchases from Christian fans bored with the traditional religious music scene. Even with clear demographic trends and frequent allusions to faith in their lyrics, members of Flyleaf refer to themselves not as a Christian rock band, but as members of a rock band who happen to be Christians. Since christening itself Flyleaf in 2004, the band has experienced success in the mainstream music industry, most notably landing on Top 40 radio stations with the single "All Around Me." Subsequent successes have included the release of a second full-length album, Memento Mori, as well as headlining the 2010 Unite & Fight Tour. The band may see a future transition into a less faith-based approach, as Kristen May expressed a desire to take a different route in the 2014 tour.

Perfect performance from The Leo Project!

by phillipsjennie on 8/10/09Beaumont Club - Kansas City

I have to admit, I was only slightly familiar with Flyleaf before the show. Mostly, I went to see and hear The Leo Project again. The opening band was good (I didn't catch their name). The Leo Project came on and gave a truly PERFECT performance (I'm a musician, so I'm pretty critical, and it's VERY rare that I would call a show "perfect"!). Tyler Lyon, lead singer of TLP is always amazing, but even as much of a fan as I am, I was impressed last night. Creighton, the lead guitarist for TLP, is an amazing musician, cute as can be, AND he can really work the crowd! Sean and Lance (bass and drummer for TLP) were outstanding as well. What an awesome set...just wasn't long enough!. Next was Flawless Escape. It surprised my 16 year old son that I enjoyed their set, but they were pretty darn good. The lead singer only had slight pitch issues a time or two and they were good at drawing the crowd in too. When Flyleaf came on, I was VERY impressed. Their lead singer can actually SING, and she came out and boldly spoke of her faith (even though the show was in a bar!). All in all, it was an outstanding show and I'd recommend any of these bands, and would gladly see them all again.

They have a heart for Christ

by cornchipmeteor on 8/9/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

I'm not especially familiar with this band, but I've bought their CD since seeing the show and definately recommend it! While I knew they were a Christian band before going, I didn't know how on-fire their tiny singer is for Jesus. And the cool thing is, Lacey wasn't flamboyantly over the top, so that non-Christians would lose interest or even leave. They sang a couple of worship songs, in their special hard-rock way (which was awesome), and Lacey gave a short explanation of how she came to Christ, but the rest of the concert was blow-em-away rock. Very fun, very powerful. Not my favorite musical style, but they put on a good show.

    go flyleaf!!

by anjosch on 8/9/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

I enjoyed the concert. Warm up bands were good. The sound guy could have turned down the sound on the instruments so that the vocals were more clear. Otherwise, great band and atmosphere.

You don't know Flyleaf until you've seen them live

by ConcertNoob on 8/8/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

I thought I knew Flyleaf. But I read a bio about the band & one of them is quoted basically saying that you can't really get a true sense of who they are as a band until you see them perform live. And boy is that true. I had never been to a 'real' concert before, so I wasn't prepared for how loud it would be, but that didn't prevent me from enjoying myself. The music was great! They were very entertaining. They seemed to truly enjoy what they were doing. Before the last song, Lacey gave a brief testimony & had a very nice message for the audience. Everything about the show was great! If you are a fan of Flyleaf but haven't seen them live yet, you definitely should if you get the chance.

    Flyleaf is so passionate

    by sunshine17clifford on 8/8/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

The concert itself was not very good. But Flyleaf was absolutly amazing. I feel if they had better bands playing with them the concert itself would have been much more enjoyable for me. But I recommend seeing flyleaf if you can.

    better than expected!

by PeaceBaby on 8/8/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

The band really put their all into this show! It was a little too short and very hot - but we really rocked out! There were some variations on the songs on the CD, which kept my interest and the new songs make me excited for the new release in October! Only comment to improve would be to have played longer and to have a little smoother transition from song to song. It is evident to me in seeing those youngsters (I'm a 40-something....and love to rock!) enjoy this music that the message is not lost on them. thank you for mixing some positive beliefs and hope in your music!

by manwithoutname on 8/8/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

Great show but the lead singer of Flyleaf got way too preachy at the end so we left. I don't wan to hear about your connection with God just sing the damn songs.

    by jenn2010 on 8/8/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

All three bands were great. Emphatic came out with some new and old songs that rocked the concert! Flawless Escape was really engaging and a little different from the other two bands but really fun--great guitar and bass parts!!! All the bands were engaging. and Flyleaf was the best I've seen them! Loved the concert and had a lot of fun! Everyone should go. :)

    Flyleaf...hard working band...

by BobDylan on 8/8/09Sokol Auditorium - Omaha

Sweat was pouring...music was loud...the crowd young. (other than me) Lacey took the stage with a "tight" red flowing dress over knee ripped bell bottom jeans...sporting classic footwear.. chucks. The band appeared to enjoy what they were doing and Lacey sang with compassion...like she believed/lived each word...a story of fear/hope/faith in something... "all my somethings". I'm so sick...made me raise my hand in the air and feel sick of past mistakes...painfull relationships... related to the sickness of it all. I'm Alive...I can feel you all around me...hope raised it's head during this hard driving tune...somethings there...around me. I and I...felt the band /Lacey was real...must mention... lacey is a looker! Hey for $22...good show...venue is okay...not the best for sound quality...but Flyleaf gave it all they had... what more could an old rock & roller want? peace be

You get your money's worth with this band! They went all out vocally and performance-wise. The crowd had a great time. Their energy was amazing.

    Flyleaf was insane!

by Dannii on 7/13/09Coyotes at City Block - Louisville

This concert was the best I have ever been to. So much inspiration, enerygy, passion, and rocking out. Even when Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf shared with everyone her testimony and the love of Christ, The atmosphere just seemed so peaceful, like the earth just stopped. This is what truley made the whole concert memorable. A band with their whole heart set out to glorifying God is what humanity needs to see.

    Great Show!

by JMC48 on 7/13/09Coyotes at City Block - Louisville

Flyleaf put on a good show. Lacy proves that dynamite can come in a small package! They seemed to really be having fun, especially since it was the last gig of their tour. Lacy and some of the other members of Flyleaf, came out during the Family Force 5 show and danced and pulled some pranks on them, them FF5 did the same thing to Flyleaf during their show.

    Christain Music in a Bar.

by HeartsStarsRaininsmyname on 7/12/09Coyotes at City Block - Louisville

I had heard fryleaf on Rock stations and christian stations before but I was totaly flabergasted when I was half buzzed at a bar with kids and christain rock music. I didn't know that they were a christain rock bad or I would not have drank. I love christain music and still flyleaf, but a bar is not a good place to play. There were several people there that did not know that they were Christain and a lot of people were really wasted with all these kids around. I can't wait to see them again, just pick a better place to play.

    Flyleaf was disappointing

by gempster on 7/12/09Coyotes at City Block - Louisville

Huge fan of the band and had been waiting for a long time to see them only to be disappointed. I don't know if the sound was bad because of the venue or thats just they way they sound live. They buried her wonder voice behind the band which is a shame, her voice makes the band and was hard to make out the lyrics on most songs!!!! And for a band that claims to be not a christian band the evening turned into a bible thumping event at every opportunity. Not sure if I will chance seeing them again live but still love there music.
