Fleet Foxes brought a cool energy

by Slossnite on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

This show was about bringing chaos and nature together for a great harmony. During their set the Fleet Foxes were spot on with their songs and sound. They offered a mix of harmonic voices and chaotic instruments to compliment. Their sound was very light but heavy at the same time. The drums keep a cool heavy dark rythym while the guitars combine with the piano to create a nice leveled sound. Overall the show was great. The crowd was in a trance for most of the night until the encore in which Fleet Foxes preceeded to wow us again with two brilliant songs.

    wrong venue

by showgoergal on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

i went into this show not knowing what to expect. i have the bands latest cd, which I love, but this show wasn't for me. we actually left after the fifth song. the band was decent, the banter was annoying, and the venue was horrible. fleet foxes is way too mellow for the factory, this show would have been much better served at the keswick or tower. oh well, you win some you lose some.

    Fleet Foxes were the shhh

by KatSmith on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The show was amazing. The opening band (Espers) wasnt realy my style, way to mellow for my liking. But the fleet Foxes did a beautiful job.

    Band good, venue lousy

by CaptKramer on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The Fleet Foxes were on their game at the Electric Factory. The mix was questionable but the vocals were spot on. The big problem is the Electric Factory itself. Standing on the floor, people are packed like sardines for 2.5 hours. I understand when seeing a rock concert or something with more oomph that you want to stand, but this is a vocals group. I've seen some great shows here (Ramones, Bowie) and have also seen them install chairs (Ray Davies). Vocal groups should be appreciated, not part of a late-July endurance test. I sat upstairs which has its own issues. People paying $43 + fees still feel like sitting near the bar is a chance to socialize. The noise upstairs completely drowned out the opening band Espers (who I wanted to see more than the FF). The din quieted once the main act appeared, but by the 4th song the chatter started again. And forget understanding banter in between songs. If you like the FF and have a chance to see them ,then by all means go. But be careful when choosing to see a band at the Electric Factory. The Tower and Keswick have the bars outside the seating area as well as better acoustics. Wait for vocal / pop bands to play these venues instead.

    Great show from Fleet Foxes

by PhilandAdelePhia on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Fleet Foxes left the stage left us all wanting more - in a good way. I could have listened for hours. Even though Robin confessed of a tired throat (due to two back-to-back shows the night before), he sounded as strong as ever - a little tea and whiskey was his remedy. The vocals throughout the set matched the strength of the recordings - powerful and tight. The audience seemed to be singing along during much of the show. Of course, The Electric Factory is not the best place for acoustics, but the show did not suffer. Although, during the encore there was a loud buzzing sound coming from the ceiling that was very annoying. It sounded like it may have been the house fan or air conditioning system. And finally, to make the evening an even better experience for me - I met Robin, Skyler and Christian before the show near the stage door. They could not have been a nicer group of guys. I hope to see them back in town soon. If you have the chance - see them!

Best show I've seen in years!

by MGAWW on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Fleet Foxes put on an unbelievable show. They played all the stuff you know and want to hear, and some new stuff too that was awesome. The quality of their voices in a live venue is as crystal clear and beautiful as what you hear on the studio record. Can't wait for them to come back!!

    Love Fleet Foxes

by ratphooey on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Fleet Foxes delivered a great show, despite a less-than-ideal sound mix at Philadelphia's Electric Factory. Local band Espers opened, a good musical complement, though they also suffered from muddy sound.

    Fleet Foxes - simply amazing

by KurtD on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

What can I say but, WOW. These guys are unbelievably talented musicians and their voices and harmonization are cystal clear. Their live sound was as good, if not better than, their recorded. Do yourself a favor & check this band out.

    Great band, average venue

by BC614 on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Fleet Foxes were amazing but they really needed a better venue, considering all the harmonizing with the tunes. I go to a lot of shows at the Electric Factory, but that's not the right place for Fleet Foxes. In addition to just generally bad acoustics in the place, we had to spend the last 20 minutes listening to a whistling air conditioning unit. Still, I'd recommend that everyone see Fleet Foxes if they're coming to your town.

    Fleet Foxes rock

by YYYsPhilly on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

This is my third time seeing Fleet Foxes live and each time they come to Philly, their venue gets bigger and bigger. It's nice to see a band of truly talented, interesting musicians continuously gain new fans. Their performance was tight, powerful and beautiful. My only regret is that the Electric Factory is not exactly the most ideal setting for such intimate music. The first time i saw them play was at Johnny Brendas and I will never forget being packed in that tiny bar getting blown away by their stunning harmonies. Regardless, this show was amazing and almost hypnotic. There is something so organic and entertaining when you watch them perform; there are no fancy sets, props, lights or flashy clothes yet I am captivated.

    Incredible harmonies

by philly1 on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Fleet Foxes were amazing. Their harmonic blends were as clear and beautiful in sound and tone as they appear on CD. They are well worth seeing.

fleet foxes = good; electric factory = suck

by swankcob on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

If you can ignore the 11 yuengling, cavernous echoes and horrendous vantage points that is the electric factory, this was an amazing show. They played a great set with a good mix of old and new. The encore was great and I liked how they talked about philly places like they actually know the city.

    Band was good

by daisydesigns on 7/31/09The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

I thought the Fleet Foxes themselves were very good but there were so many people you couldn't move and it seemed like once they played White Winter Hymnal everyone lost interest and just started talking. We had to move several times due to people talking so loudly we could understand every word of their conversation over the loud music.
