Flatlands was great, can't wait for next year

by Ksdonkeylady on 9/18/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

Great venue, parking way over priced. Beer way over priced. Shows ran a little late, could start them a little earlier next time. Good sound system, lighting. Tickets a little over priced, lower them a bit and next year, they could sell a lot more

    Acoustics were deplorable

by KMinKC on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

Love & Theft, Miranda Lambert and Toby were great, but I could not understand Kelly Pickler at all - the acoustics for her, and Miranda to a lesser degree but some, were horrible for female voices. I couldn't make out her lyrics or what she was saying when she spoke. I think the tickets were overpriced and parking in the grass covered all the cars with thick dust. The arena is nice, but I think I will stick to soccer games.

    toby keith awesome

by chilimanku on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

Miranda would have been better with pistol annies. thought toby keith was awesome. Maybe put stage in the middle of park next year instead of on end.

All great concerts but seating was a bit chaotic

by nebraskaAF on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

I think Darius Rucker was the best as was Rodney Atkins. My wife thought Luke Bryan was awesome...I think he ought to take lessons from Darius and come back down to Earth. The biggest complaint was the seating was jacked up and lots of seating disappeared so people were showing up without seats. I called back unfortunately as they promised an upgrade due to the seats gone but and they moved me over a few seats wheras the folks who didnt call got moved to the better seats. All in all a great concert but seat mgmt was lacking...also lots of people who didnt pay for floor seating somehow ended up on the floor.

    Acoustics were bad

by TNTHUT on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

Our tickets were on the floor just to the left of the stage. The sound was horrible and many times the music overpowered the artist. I was disappointed that I spent over 400.00 on tickets for my daughter for her 19th birthday only to have the sound be horrible. You couldn't hear and understand Kellie Pickler, Miranda's sound was a little better but still not good. Toby's sound had so much treble in it it was almost ear piercing at times. If you were right in fromt of the stage, it was better but anyting off to the side from there was horrible. Very disappointed I spent the money on it. I don't think Sporting Park is meant for concerts. I've heard these artists at Cricket Wireless and Sprint Center and the sound was awesome so the overall experience was much better.

    Outstanding Event

by FlatlandFan on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

First time at Sporting Park...WOW !!!! Just the right size for an event like this. Great crowd of fun folks gathered to enjoy the music and see some of our favorites live on stage. The talent was ready to make the people happy....and boy they did. Seeing Miranda Lambert and Toby Keith play some favorites was incredible. Next year this will be the hot ticket in town!

    Great music, mediocre food.

by Omaboy on 9/17/13Flatlands Country Music Festival - Kansas City

The concert was absolutely fantastic! Spent all day there and loved all of the acts and the venue (Sporting Park). The only issue we had was with the food; mid-afternoon we purchased a hot dog with fries, a cheeseburger with fries, and 2 drinks that came to about $30 (which is expected at event prices). The hot dog and cheeseburger were both stone cold. I actually had to send the first burger back because the bun was rock hard, and that was we before I knew the food was cold - otherwise I would have sent everything back. It's obviously not the event organizer's fault, just the way the food service employees were serving the food when business was slow - but at the prices that are charged at events like this, I would expect the food to at least be luke warm. The food we purchased for dinner was much better. Still, great music though!!!!!

    Awesome day!

by barbwireroses on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

The line up was fantastic! Can't wait to see who they book for next year! There was a bit of a mix up on our seating, so we were upgraded to the 4th row! Club hostess, bartenders, security and ushers were so helpful and fun to visit with. The only complaint I have is that it was a Bud sponsored arena! ;) Bring on the Coors!

    Event was FANTASTIC

by Cobeysgirl on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

We had a wonderful time at the Flatlands festival. We had purchased tickets and then won VIP upgrades from the venue. The line up was very enjoyable! Cant wait to go again next year! Couple items to mention -- logistics of getting all the different wristbands on Friday was a bit cumbersome. Seemed as though the different groups within the staff didnt communicate well so no one really knew exactly what was going on. Saturday was better. Same thing with people having access to the VIP seating when those were not their seats. Stadium staff didnt handle it too well on Friday night so we had a lot of VERY drunk people crowding in the front few rows that didnt have tickets in those areas. Saturday night was better, but still frustrating to constantly kick people out of your seats each time you came back to them. The bar staff in the Boulevard Club was top notch! Catering -- well, not so much. The meal that came with the VIP pass on Friday night in the Boulevard Club was average at best (we heard the meal for the suite VIP passes was fantastic) The Saturday night dinner was almost inedible! EVERYTHING was cold and basically raw. Not sure why the chef sent out cold broiled potato chunks, cold fried chicken, cold/raw green beans...it was very disappointing!! Hopefully they get the kinks worked out for that next year!

    best.idea.ever.

by hols1983 on 9/17/13Sporting Park - Kansas City

I purchased two tickets for the VIP experience and was privy to the Boulevard Club, the free meal, the 5 free drinks, the private air conditioned bathrooms, the VIP parking, and of course - the AMAZING views!! Cons: ~ 5 free drinks per ticket, per day should be 5 free drinks. The vendors "charged" us two punches for some of the drinks because, it was a $14 drink, with a commemorative cup ... they also assured us that the refills would only be one punch. Turns out, the refill being one punch was only for two types of drinks, not any drink. So when I decided I didn't want the Blue Hell and ordered a tequila sunrise in my fancy cup, I was charged two more punches. Kinda lame. Also - there were vendors walking around the VIP section with various beverages, however, they weren't able to punch our VIP pass and give it to us for free or give us the free water - we had to go alllll the way up to the club for that .... well played, boulevard club ;) ~ There was no easy access to the Boulevard club, we had to walk through the sea of standing room only GA people, who were unwilling to move, and were convinced we were secretly trying to sneak to the front of the GA standing section, when in reality, we were just trying to get back to our seats. Gotta be honest, I would have rather gone in a porta-potty that was placed in the VIP section instead of going through the GA sea! I almost think it would have been better if they would have flipped the stage to be on the Boulevard Club end of the arena - that way the VIP access is already on that side of the field. ~ At the tail end of night two, they finally put staff at the end of the aisles to stop people who were only supposed to be allowed to have floor access from creeping up and taking our seats every time we got up for anything. It was a little ridiculous - we had a half open row behind us, and there were people who had floor access in the seats, and they literally argued with the seat holders when they got there, telling them they could just squeeze in - pretty ballsey. Not only that, but the staff were good about allowing us to sneak in the aisle for a quick picture and return to our seats - people abused it though, and again, people with floor access only were lingering for the duration of the show (until they were pushed back), from the standpoint of someone who paid way more money to have a better view and be less crowded, it was frustrating. Again, the staff would eventually bump them back though, so nothing got too crazy. ~ Smoking. There were crew up front smoking as well as random patrons who would light up. You could smell it and it just lingered. I did tell an employee when I was able to see who was smoking and they went over and addressed it right away though! Still wish smokers would be a little more respectful - just because there isn't a roof on the facility, doesn't mean we can't smell it. Pros: ~ The free meal was great, the staff were exceptionally courteous, there wasn't much of a wait at all, and they allowed us to come back for seconds if we wanted. One trip was enough for this girl, but if they do the Mac & Cheese again ...you would be stupid to let it pass you by. Everything was made from scratch and it was phenomenal. ~ Speaking of Boulevard club - it was nice! Beautiful, open concept - clean bathrooms, again, courteous staff who were always cleaning, smiling and willing to help in any way they could. There is even a Sprint charging station which was nice to power up the old smart phone in between shows. Don't forget about the jumbo trons - so even when you're away from the action, it doesn't feel like you're missing out. The weather was perfect, but an escape to air conditioned bathrooms might have been nice if we were amidst a heat wave! ~ Views! Have you seen Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Thompson Square, Rodney Atkins, Love and Theft and Toby Keith from the 8th row?! It was amazing!! ~ Performances! Every artist played a nice, long concert - and it didn't feel like any of them were running late - maybe Toby was, but Miranda did a couple extra songs and it was fine. Luke Bryan definitely stole the weekend for me, it was TRULY an amazing performance. Everyone worked the crowd and had a lot of fun with it, it seemed like the artists wanted to be there, which was nice. ~ We stayed at the hotel directly across the street and that was a smart move. I wouldn't have wanted to mess with parking and it was nice to not have to worry about walking to my car after the concerts ... plus, I figure us not parking left an open spot for the next guy! ~ Location - the complex is BEAUTIFUL and is smack dab in the middle of shopping, hotels, dining, and has easy interstate access! I would hope they would NEVER move the location... Bottom line - this was the first year of the Flatlands Festival and it was amazing, I'm sure they will tweak parts to improve it next year, there is always a learning curve and I felt like the staff adjusted pretty well given the fact that no one is perfect and people will always push the rules.

Got there late so I didn't hear Keven Fowler. Thompson Square was alright. Rodney Atkins and Darius Rucker rocked it! And oh my LUKE BRYAN made that show!! Haven't been to a better concert. Will definitely be watching him in concert again, FOR SURE.
