Nice show at intimate venu. A little bit hard to find for a non-local.
Firefall was fair, PPL was OK, Poco was good......Poco has been depleted through out the years....Rusty Young can still sing, but his backup group wasn't anything like Paul Cotton, Randy Meisner, or Timothy B. Schmidt. Hard Land was a good Tune. Webb struggled through his tune. I would lend more to the vocal. Wouldn't pay as much as I did to see these guys again. Poco was one of my favorite all time groups, and it hurts to see them depleted as such. Rusty....You can still belt them out.
Rusty Young is Poco. He does a great job of holding the band together, and he is an incredible musician and vocalist. Unfortunately, without Paul Cotton there is a large void in the band. They did “Heart of the Night” without him, and it was kind of sad. It's still worth seeing the band as Rusty's songs are really good. Firefall was very good even with only three members on stage. It's too bad they didn't have more than 40 minutes to play as they never got to some of their great songs such as "It Doesn't Matter" and "Someday Soon".
Firefall did not even have a full band. PPL was ok. We kept having 2 people getting up from their seats every few minutes. We had enough adn left before PACO started. It was not worth the money paid. Buy a CD and stay home!!
they can still rock! The setting at the Birchmere made for an incredibly enjoyable evening. THe band - still humble after all these years. Was definitely worth seeing.
On one of the hottest July days on record, Firefall came smoking hot into the Birchmere to do their thing. It was simply amazing. The years passed away and one found themselves back in the 70s, singing along to the bands biggest hits. If that wasn't enough the jam sessions during and after the songs were a testimony to the fact that these artists can still ROCK! Age did not prove a factor here, not for the musicians or for the audience. These slightly older gentleman still go it!!! Firefall proved that after all these years, they are still on FIRE! Truly mesmerizing.
These guys really enjoy playing together. They are all quite talented. The last time I saw Firefall was about '77, and if you were a fan then too, you will not be disappointed by the playlist or the performance. Probably about four of the songs went into really long, well evolving jams that seemed pretty improvised but always worked their way back to a final chorus and ending. Extremely enjoyable jams. Vocals sounded good together, but the sound wasn't mixed well, with mics being potted up late etc. Overall, I'm very glad we went!
Didn't know what to expect, but the group was fabulous. It has been a long time since I heard impromptu jamming like that. They were incredibly tight, yet musical and unlike ohters, the jamming invoilved most of the band - 3 guitars, flute and sax - and the guys clearly enjoyed what they were doing. Yes, they did the old standbys, but the jamming made it fresh and fun. Audience was small but that just made it more intimate. Great fun, cannot wait for them to come back.
They gave an astounding performance. Remarkable musicians, great solos, great banter with audience. I am in my 30s and knew of their hits "You are the Woman" and "Just Remember I Love You." I now have a greater appreciation for the body of the band's work, and immediately bought their 2008 Reunion Concert CD. Steve Palmer band put on a great show as well - an heir to the rock and folk groups of the 70s. Give them a listen.
