About

Raw, emotional and entrancing, singer-songwriter and pianist Fiona Apple knows how to project her feelings onto an adoring audience so that each fan feels as if he or she is being directly sung to, as Apple did in her most recent tour on the East Coast in fall of 2013. Her concerts are marked by their intimacy, with the singer cooing in her contralto voice almost to herself, as if no one else was there. This is in stark contrast to her extremely reclusive public persona. Reticent to engage in interviews and effectively sequestered between albums and tours, Apple still coaxes devotion from her legions who drift along enchanted by her siren songs of love, loss, sleeplessness and self-image.

Acquiring a level of success like Apple's can be difficult, but still possible with a bit of persistence. In Apple's case, she created a mix tape of songs when she was in high school that found their way to a music mogul who immediately saw her potential, leading to several amazing tours. Though followers cannot buy tickets to any tour currently, they can invest in her varied albums sporting jazz and alternative rock themes. Her most recent album, “The Idler Wheel…,” is her fourth, released in 2012, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album features the single “Every Single Night,” which Pitchfork Media deemed the Best New Music of the year. Critics as a whole were enamored with the album, almost as much as her previous record, “Extraordinary Machine.” As her Grammy wins and numerous nominations and accolades prove, her talent is appreciated across the world, even if she feels uncertain of her prowess.

    Wonerful, Fantastik, Awesome ect....

    by mlt22 on 6/23/12MGM - Mashentucket

Best concert I've ever been to. Fiona was amazingly energetic. When she plays the piano my heart beats as if i just ran track. I read some ofthe other reviews yes the opening act was a bit long. But she played 1.5hrs straight. No costum changes and no intermission to waste time.

    Fiona interesting as usual.

Fiona sounds great live and is just adorable. Wish she would've talked a little about her music in between songs. She's amazing.

    Fiona is BACK!

by Ljuliette on 6/22/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

Fiona is a quirky genius. Her voice never disappoints live and her stage presence is undeniably sweet. I brought a friend with me to this show who wasn't exactly a Fiona fan. Well, now she's converted. Fiona does a great mix of older songs amid tracks from her newest album, which I'm sure will be nominated for a Grammy. Just buy the ticket and GO, already!

Fiona Apple is an amazing performer. She was intense and emotional - she did not hold back. Her energy was awesome. The concert lasted from approximately 8:30 (with a 30 minute opening act) until 10:45. I would love to see her preform again live. I hope it is not so long before the next new album!

    Decent Performance, Awful venue

by Anonymous on 6/22/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

The opening act (her guitarist and bassist) was one of the most boring performances I've ever witnessed. A seated guitarist singing slow washed out songs with upright bass accompaniment. It might work in the corner of a coffee shop but not in a performance hall. Fiona was great as far as her performance goes, running around stage, getting really into her songs. The band was ok, they just seemed like they didn't fit together at all. 5 musicians who had nothing to do with one another other than meet on stage at 9pm and play a set. There was very little interplay between them. The sound in the venue was awful. Fiona even brought up one song into the performance that the room was cave-like. All of the lows and low mids were about as muddy and washed out as they could have been. The Lyric just wasn't the right venue at all, which sucks because there are such great arrangements on her albums and you miss so much of that with the awful sound quality. I've seen her perform before a few years ago with Nickel Creek at Pier 6 and it was a fantastic show. This one was kind of a let down.

    Hipster Heaven

by Baltigurl on 6/22/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

Fiona Apple hasn't lost anything in all the years she's been around. She is a multitalented artist with powerful vocals and serious piano skills. She engaged the audience several times and is very humorous. She did the old and new songs and is truly one of a kind. Seeing her just makes you look forward to seeing her again someday!!

Fiona is still beautiful and powerful!

by Munni on 6/22/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

I saw her perform at the Sixth and I Synagogue in DC, which was a great intimate show, but seeing her in the Lyric was breathtaking. The acoustics are excellent and the lighting work was spot on. Highly recommend her in concert. Fiona Apple truly puts all of herself in her performance.

    Good Show

    by seasea911 on 3/30/12Royale Boston - Boston

This show had many pros and cons. Pro: Fiona is an amazing artist and her artistry was on full display: she sang a variety of songs from her last four albums and her voice is strong and beautiful. Con: Ticket says that the show starts at 8, but they didn't let us into the venue until 8 p.m. and the opening act, musicians in her band, came on stage at 9. Fiona didn't come on stage until 9:30. She sang prompt for one hour and refused to come back for an encore even though the crowd asked for one for a full twenty minutes.

    Fiona is a Goddess!

by alovinbowlful on 3/30/12Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

I have idolized Fiona Apple since I was 14-years old. I remember her bursting onto the scene, and I loved everything about her -- her style, her angst, her personality, and of course, her undeniable talent. Fiona and her music have always been something I've always been able to relate to, even her albums after Tidal. When she gained world fame, I was too young to be allowed to go to her concerts. And when I was old enough, I was dealing with a series of unfortunate life events, and I was often too overwhelmed or too broke to see her live. Needless to say, I am 28-years old now, and I have waited 14 years for this opportunity to be in the same room as the woman who gave me strength through her lyrics and powerful voice. I have been to many, many concerts in recent years, and nothing even comes close to being able to compare to how truly amazing this show was. I am so lucky to have been able to score tickets to a show that sold out in mere minutes. She was on stage for an hour and a half...To some, that may not be that long, but believe me when I say that she sang nearly every minute of that 90 minutes. Most concerts these days aren't like that...many artists spend a lot of time filling up time by meaningless banter rather than singing. Fiona gave it 110%, and she moved every single body in the crowd. I look forward to the release of her new album and cannot wait to see her again when she tours!

by NOLAlex on 3/29/12Royale Boston - Boston

I love Fiona. She was great...but she only played for an hour!!! For the amount of money that the tickets costing $45 I expected more than one hour of music and then no encore!!! Poor form Fiona!!!

    Powerful, Engergetic, Short

by Gojulas on 3/29/12Royale Boston - Boston

Fiona Apple live was exactly as I imagined it would be, manic one minute, introspective the next. She would jump and flail and scream with the intensity of an artist truly dedicated to their work. Her facial expressions really highlighted some of the bitterness and snark in her songs. At other times you really felt the deeply personal nature of her songs. Her between songs banter was brief. She wasn't here to soak up adulation. Still, the part where she played the song her guitarist had created on his iPhone was hilarious. She packed a lot of energy and emotion into the show, which must be why it was only about an hour long. There was no encore, ether, something the audience had trouble accepting.

Waited a long time for not much

by Longtrip on 3/29/12Royale Boston - Boston

I have waited for a long time for a chance to see Fiona. I drove a long way to see this show. Standing outside in the cold was to be expected but the venue itself left much to be desired. The sound was awful in a big, echoey old theater that was set up to be a dance bar - not a concert venue. Nasty place that I would never go to again. The opening act was terrible. When Fiona finally came out she was good, despite the fact it was hard to see or hear her. I was disappointed though to pay a pretty hefty ticket price to see a show that lasted LESS THAN AN HOUR!!! I understand that performing is tough on artists and I am perfectly OK with them taking a break to rest and recover but it seems to me that an artist should expect to play a little more than an hour when fans travel to see them. What wasted unconditional love On somebody Who doesn't believe in the stuff Oh, well

    Great set but too short

by thegbo on 3/29/12Royale Boston - Boston

Positives: Fiona sounded great. She played a nice selection from all 3 albums, plus some new material and covers. Overall really enjoyable Negatives: Show was scheduled for 8PM with no opening act. Around 8:45 her guitarist came out and did a 25 minute set of original material which wasn't very good. Fiona finally emerged around 9:45 and played until about 10:25 with no encore. The length of the set was less than half of the wait time.
