Based on the Academy Award®-winning film of the same name, this breathtaking show follows playwright J.M. Barrie as he summons the courage to become the writer – and the man – he yearns to be. Barrie finds the inspiration he’s been missing when he meets the beautiful widow Sylvia and her four young sons: Jack, George, Michael and Peter.
Delighted by the boys’ hilarious escapades, Barrie conjures the magical world of Neverland and writes a play unlike any the high-society London theatergoers have ever seen. It’s a tremendous risk, but as Barrie himself has discovered—
I loved every minute of this production of Finding Neverland. Jeff Sullivan and Ruby Gibbs were captivating and their chemistry was beautiful!
If I could give this play more than five stars, I would have. This was truly an amazing play! There wasn’t a single part about it that was disappointing or boring- unless you count intermission. (Well... and the one mouthed F- Bomb. That was very unnecessary.) I wasn’t exactly sure what my expectations were going into this play- but I do know they were greatly exceeded. This play explores life through a truly unique way- “through the eyes of a child” (Play). It shows that you don’t have to be a child to have fun and believe. You see the true beauties of life, even amidst hardships and trials. After all, “our life’s calling was never meant to be boring” (Believe). The actors are all adorable and amazing, and the music is top notch. The notes will be left resounding in your heart even as the next scene starts. And every song is truly a treat. Whether it’s the intense encouragement of “Live by the Hook” or “Stronger,” the sweetness of “Sylvia’s Lullaby” or “Neverland,” or the plain fun of “Believe” or “We Own the Night,” all the songs in the play hold their own surprises, messages, and emotions that will leave you wanting more. I love everything about this play and all it stands for. It shows that imagination, faith, hope, and love are true powers in our world. And they make the world brighter and happier. J. M. Barrie has a unique relationship with Sylvia and her boys, and it’s beautiful. Barrie reminds the boys how much fun life can be when they indulge their intense imaginations, and the boys remind him that writing doesn’t have to just be a job. And Barrie expresses his love for the children and their widowed mother by being their friend and caring for them day by day. In the midst of their past and impending darkness, he shows them the sparkle of light. But he does so without belittling their suffering at all- he simply turns their minds toward the good, and not the bad. This play has a perfect mix of hilarity, comic relief, sorrow, suffering, and recovery. They’ve got great dialogue, and the Captain Hook that lives in Barrie’s mind never disappoints, either!!! At the same time, it outlines the love of a parent for their children, and how true happiness is achieved. You see both the highs and the lows, and you see the joy that comes from making people happy. Love, belief, and imagination are the basics of this play. And they all influence each other greatly. This soundtrack still makes me a cry. After I saw it, I had to take some time by myself to let loose all my emotions purely because it was OVER. The only bad thing about Broadway is you can’t rewind and watch stuff again!!! Who knows when I’ll get to experience the play again? It was a one of a kind experience, and this musical will forever have a special place in my heart!!!
I had not heard much at all about this production and almost did not attend. SO happy I did. This was so well done and one can’t help but become immersed in it.
Everything was wonderful!! the sets were very creative, the music was perfect and the singing was amazing!!! The cast and crew should be very proud of putting on such a wonderfully entertaining show!!!
I was caught off guard by the shows writing...in a great way. Laughter and then tears. Great performances. A definite must see!
The singing was superb. The dancing was perfect. It was a night to remember. I invited some friends and they said it exceeded their expectations.
Loved some of the special effects and wonderful staging! Very entertaining!
This show exceeded my expectations. The cast did such a great job and the kids in it were just perfect! Music was wonderful as well!
This show was outstanding. I am only giving it four stars because the first half was ok and the second half made up for it. Slow going in the beginning and went out with a bang. I also had a older lady chewing her gum like a cow next to me and a BIG person in front of me, so the seating in my case could have been better.
Any time we see a show we critique it over dinner. We could find nothing bad to say. We were amazed how talented everyone was, including the four boys. BRAVO! Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon we will never forget.
Looking forward for 3 years should keep playing!!!!!!!!
I was a little concerned that the show would not translate well from TV to stage, well I couldn't be more wrong. The show was amazing, the acting, the singing, the story line were all fantastic. I can't say enough about the children, they are extremely talented. If you have the opportunity to see this play don't miss it.
Went to the matinee and loved the show so much that I bought tickets for the evening performance! Beautiful sets and costumes. The songs were stunning and the acting was captivating.
This was one of the best shows I've seen! Every detail was meticulously coordinated for an overall performance that opened new pathways in the heart! Well worth the time. Loved it!
Show was fantastic! Leads and Ensemble were fantastic. The Ensemble really seemed better than most ensembles I've seen. Unfortunately the Syracuse venue is horrible for any Broadway show. It is concrete and non descript. I've seen High School performing arts centers far more superior to this venue.
This was hands down the best musical I’ve ever seen! It’s a must see!!! Super talented cast!
Having seen the Broadway production of Finding Neverlanf, I wasn't sure what to expect from the tour. Overall, I loved it. I found the changes to the libretto unnecessary (save for the addition of My Imagination), but they still worked very well in keeping the show streamlined. However, there were some references in songs to dialogue that had been cut, but if you hadn't known that it was supposed to be a reference to something else I don't think you would notice. I thought the cast was fantastic, and the sets, costumes, choreography, etc. are near identical to Broadway, and still beautiful. The only part I'm iffy about is having the Finale be a reprise of Believe instead of When Your Feet Don't Touch the Ground; the song was pretty and I understand the change, but I felt like ending on such a positive note didn't give the audience the closure we needed — I felt like they just kind of breezed over what happened. (Also, we didn't get a proper conclusion to the whole Mary/James things as with the original production.) Still, it's a wonderful, refreshing show and I'm so glad I got to experience it live again.
This show reaches out to the child inside of all of us. It's funny and moving. A beautiful production. I saw this 7 times on Broadway and this is my 2nd touring production. Don't miss it. Check your adult at the door and believe!
I was very curious about this show. The first half was a little slow but the second was very good. The stunts and props were amazing. The boys did a terrific job! I left the theater feeling good, glad I had seen it but not sure I need to see it again. The soundtrack is not one that sticks in your head. I would recommend to see it once though.
Very professional, well acted with great pacing. I wasn’t familiar with this show, but was very pleased with the cast and effects!
